YESThis past Spring, YES! groups used

photography to learn and think about the assets and issues in their schools. Through discussions and writing, each group chose a topic and came up with a plan for their social action project. The idea is for the YES! group members to understand that they can turn their thoughts into action! In each group, everyone works together to decide on the theme of the project and then each person is

responsible for making it happen. YES! believes that the social action projects help children in three ways: First, by designing and implementing a successful social action project, individuals and groups might see how the power of their actions can make a difference in their personal lives and in their community. Third, each YES! group had unique learning experiences, such as public speaking, writing letters to officials, group discussions, researching and interviewing for their topic. One of the important things for many YES! group members was to realize that they are free to think for themselves and that they can create positive changes in their community. In other words, they learned what empowerment is!

Youth Empowerment Strategies(Estrategias de Liderazgo para los Jόvenes)

YES

YES! children used cameras to document things important to them in their school or communities. From their own photographs, YES! group members explored what story the photograph was telling, how things got to be that way, how it made people feel, and what steps the YES! group might take to en-hance the community. These photographs show the social action projects done by YES! groups this year.
