TIPLA CONFERENCE FACULTYAusten Adams – Austen is an entertainment attorney at Crownover Blevins P.C. in Nashville where he represents and advises recording artists, songwriters, producers, artist managers, music publishers and other music industry professionals in entertainment transactions. Austen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Louisiana State University School of Law where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Order of the Coif and the Louisiana Law Review. He worked as a law clerk for the honorable Rebecca F. Doherty, U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana and then as an associate at Taylor, Porter, Brooks and Phillips, LLP in Baton Rouge. Austen moved to Nashville in 2003 and worked in several areas of the entertainment business including managing the day-to-day affairs of numerous recording artists, touring across the country and marketing a Grammy nominated release for Ronnie Milsap. He has been an Adjunct Professor at Belmont University and has served as Chair of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the Tennessee Bar.

Mark Bielawski – Mark Bielawski is Senior Intellectual Property Counsel for Hexcel Corporation. Hexcel manufacturescarbonfiberandcompositematerials,primarily for the aerospace market. Mark received his bachelor’sdegreeinGeologyfromDartmouthCollegeand his J.D. from the University of North Carolina. Prior to joining Hexcel, Mark worked as IP counsel for Lockheed Martin Corporation and as an associate at variousWashington,D.C.areaIPboutiquelawfirms.

Chris Davis – Chris is a member of the Litigation Group in Merchant & Gould’s Minneapolis office.His practice focuses on patent litigation, video game law, and e-discovery. His background as a software engineer has been incredibly valuable in cases involving electronic discovery. Chris earned his B.A. at Wright State University and his Law Degree, cum laude, at the University of Wisconsin Law School where he was a member of Order of the Coif.

Jacob Horton –Jakeisashareholderinthelawfirmof Pitts & Lake, P.C., and currently practices in the areas of patent, trademark, and copyright law. Mr. Horton received a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering cum laude and his law degree from the University of Tennessee. He was selected by SuperLawyersasa2012RisingStar in thefieldofintellectual property.

John Jackson – John earned a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from the University of

Tennessee and a law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He is a trial lawyer in Chambliss’LitigationandIntellectualPropertySectionswhere he concentrates his practice on intellectual property litigation, business litigation, products liability and insurance defense. As lead trial counsel, he has litigated a number of trademark, copyright, patent, product liability and business litigation cases in courts throughout the United States.

Dale Lamar – Before earning his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law, Dale received a Bachelor of Science, Biotechnology from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Masters in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics from Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the Business Services Group at Butler Snow with a practice emphasis in Intellectual Property Procurement, especially in U.S. and foreign patent prosecution.

Gary Montle – Gary has an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and served as an intern with the WIPO in Switzerland before graduating from Vanderbilt University Law School. His practice focuses on the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights. He regularly advises clients in both corporate and individual capacities throughout each stage of patent, trademark and copyright issues, including strategic portfolio development, scope of protection, licensing and enforcement.

Wade Orr – Wade earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee and was a member of the varsity tennis team. He competed in two Southeastern Conference championships, three NCAA Final Fours and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three consecutive years. He earned his Law degree, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law. Wade has been an associate with Luedeka Neely since 2008 and has a broad practice in the field ofintellectual property law including patent application preparation and prosecution, trademark application preparation and prosecution, copyrights, and related litigation and licensing.

Mark (Andy) Pitchford – Andy graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky with an Electrical Engineering major and Mathematics minor and also graduated from the University Of Kentucky College Of Law. He practiced law in St. Louis before joiningWaddey&Pattersonin2011.Mark’spracticefocuses on the preparation and prosecution of U.S.,

foreign and international patent applications in the electrical, software and mechanical arts. In addition to handling patents, Mark advises in the licensing of trademarks, copyrights, intellectual property portfolio management, and due diligence. His practice also includes appealing USPTO actions to the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences as well as preparing claim construction briefs for Markman hearings.

David Shuman – David has 15 years of experience litigating patent cases regarding electronics, computer hardware and software, and wireless communications. A former partner of Fish & Richardson P.C., Mr. Shuman has also served as senior patent litigation counsel to smartphone manufacturer HTC. He is a 1998 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and resides in Nashville.

Stayko Staykov – Stayko currently leads a global advisory firm experienced in addressing complexissues and tasks related to Technology Commer-cialization, IP Strategy, Transactional Negotiations, Collaborative Partnerships and Leadership Develop-ment. In the course of his career, Mr. Staykov has structured, led and advised multi-phased capital campaigns in the aggregate of over $ 75 million from pre-seed investments to mezzanine and institutional financing.Priortohistransitionintoanadvisoryrole,Mr. Staykov co-founded and served as the President and COO of an intellectual property management holding. Mr. Staykov has built strategic partnerships withworld renowned lawfirms, investmentbankers,manufacturers and others. He has negotiated and executed transactions in the US, Europe and Asia. Mr. Staykov has built a national reputation as an expert in leadership development for young leaders and entrepreneurs. He has served as the featured lecturer at statewide and national forums, leadership retreats and roundtables across the U.S. and internationally.

Maia Woodhouse – Maia graduated with a B.A., magna cum laude, and earned her law degree at Vanderbilt University. She practiced with a complex commercial litigation firm in New York City beforeshe returned to Nashville and joined Baker Donelson. Maia concentrates her practice on intellectual property and technology matters, including trademark trade dress, trade secret, copyright, patent, internet defamation and technology transactions and disputes. SheispartofBakerDonelson’sEmergingCompaniesTeam where she works closely with entrepreneurs, start-ups and other emerging companies, focusing on their unique needs to help develop, protect and leverage their IP to ensure long-term success.
