XVISION 97 INSTALLATION ON WINDOWS 95 ANDWINDOWS NT 4.0
IMPORTANT
Before starting, ensure the following :
• The Date on the PC or PCs is correct. Otherwise Xvision MAY crash each time it loads.
• You have a valid HOST file on each PC, with the Names and IP addresses of the host machine(s) and all thePCs. This should be in the "C:\WINDOWS " directory.
• Check there are no additional faults registered in PROBLEMS? on page 35.
This guide is divided into the following sections :
If you have Windows 95 start at the following section and then jump to Step 2.
STEP 1 - INSTALL TCP/IP FROM WINDOWS 95 CD If you have Windows 95 start at this section and thenjump to Step 2
STEP 1A - INSTALL TCP/IP FROM WINDOWS NT CD If you have Windows NT version 4 then start hereand continue with Step 2.

STEP 1 - INSTALL TCP/IP FROM WINDOWS 95 CD
If you have Windows NT go to section : STEP 1A - INSTALL TCP/IP FROM WINDOWS NT CD on page 6.
Right click on the Network Neighbourhood icon and click on Add.
Choose Protocol

Select Add and then Microsoft from the Manufacturers list and TCP/IP from the Network Protocols list.Click OK .
Select TCP/IP and click on Properties.

Select Specify an IP Address and complete IP address and Subnet Mask with information supplied by theNetwork Manager. Do NOT copy the same data shown below.
Select Bindings and make sure Client for Microsoft Networks is checked with a tick.

Click on OK or Close for all dialogs that appear. Machine will reboot after confirming Yes
After rebooting, check TCP/IP by PINGing a known host from a DOS box. The HOSTS file must be located inthe WINDOWS directory. Do NOT proceed with the XVision installation until you get a valid response similarto that shown in the screen dump below.

STEP 1A - INSTALL TCP/IP FROM WINDOWS NT CD
To configure TCP/IP on NT right click the Network Neighbourhood icon and select Properties

Clcik on the Protocol icon.
Select Add.and then TCP/IP Protocol

If the following message message appears, click on No unless you require DHCP.
Make sure the NT CD-ROM is the drive and select the source directory in the dialog that then appears(Normally D:\I386) and click OK.
The TCP/IP protocol should now be installed. Select Specify an IP Address and complete IP address andSubnet Mask with information supplied by the Network Manager. Do NOT copy the same data shown below.
Restart the computer by clickin on Yes
Now continue with XVision installation on the next page.

STEP 2 - XVISION INSTALLATION
Put the XVision CD in the CD-ROM drive. Click on Install when the SCO Vision 97 window opens up. Havethe Licence ready.
Click OK .

Select SCO XVision Eclipse only and then Next.

Enter the license number from the Licence Pack.
Select Custom installation option and then Next..

Select No to Registration and then Next (Registration should be done later)
A summary of the installation is shown. Click on OK .

Installation starts
Select Yes for Check Network and Next but ignore any errors that are reported.

Select location for installation. Confirm the location by clicking on Next.
Select X Components and Next.

Select Components
Select the fonts. For 1280 x 1024 or higher use 100DPI, otherwise 75DPI. Click on Next.

Select No for XDMCP Broadcast and click on Next
Select Yes for Autoload X Server and click on Next

XVision starts the installation ....
Create an Xvision programfolder. Click on Next

and Yes to Check Installation

Select No to fix Network Errors
Restart the computer by clicking on Yes

XVision has now added three new icons to Control Panel
In Control Panel select XVision Profiles and double click on XVision

In Server select Allow server reset

In Devices select IBM 101/102 to DEC LK250 (LK layout) - UK
Select Display and click on Single Window

and then Advanced. Select Full screen mode.
Then OK to everything
Using Windows Explorer locate the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Vision\Scripts
Copy VMSTCP.SCR to UTCTCP.SCR and edit it with Notepad
Locate DOEXEC and insert ";" at the beginning of each line apart from the first and last in the FUNC
Save the changes.

In Control Panel select Vision Communications and then Transports
Add a new transport called UTC-TCP
Click on OK and then select UTC-TCP and Properties from the Transports window.

Select Security and then Authentication
Click on Change. Add the Username and Password as shown and OK .
Select Script. Click on Browse and locate UTCTCP.SCR. Complete the rest and click on Close.

Move UTC-TCP to the top of the list
Select Hosts tab and then Add.
Add the UTC host computer and click on OK

This is added to the Hosts list
Select Properties. UTC-TCP should be available in the list of transports. If not then go back to Transport taband try changing UTC-TCP from Enabled to Automatic and vice-versa. Change the icon if required.

Select Security
Select Change and set Username/Password to pc_login / pc_login
Repeat the process for each host computer required. Click on Close for all windows

STEP 3 - CREATE UTC LOGIN CONNECTION
Click on Start / New Unix Program
Enter the host name

Enter 'pc_login' for the Path name
Select X Application and then Next

Give it a name
Click on Finish. The installation is complete.

Select Start / Unix Programs / UTC login to UTCxx

PROBLEMS?
This is a list of problems so far encountered. The list will be updated as and when new problems areencountered :
1. Vision Services crashes during the final stages of Installation and ALSO every time XVision is started up.This may occur if the PC has the wrong system date. SCO says this is a known problem on XVision 7 and foryears from around 2035 onwards.
