SMP Support and Virtual HardwareDifferentvirtualhardwareversionssupportdifferentlevelsofSMP.TheESXuserinterfaceliststhedefaultlevelofSMPsupportforaparticularguest,whichisdeterminedbythecombinationofthelevelofguestsupportandthelevelofsupportprovidedbythehardwareversion.

HardwareversionsincombinationwithguestSMPsupportdeterminethelevelofSMPsupport.Forexample,iftheguestsupports4wayandthehardwareversionsupportsuptoeight,thehighestlevelofSMPsupportwillbe4way.Supportcannotexceedthelevelsupportedbytheguest.
