14th Summer Cup 2013 - Official Invitation 3

The organization of the 14th Summer Cup 2013 is pleased to invite your

team to participate in prestigious fourteenth edition of this international youth volleyball tournament.

The event takes place 3-7 July in Portugal with its centre in the town Lousã

(28 km from Coimbra), Miranda do Corvo and Serpins and is intended to teams in the following age classes:

- 13U boys and girls: born in 1999 and after

- 14U boys and girls: born in 1998 and after

- 15U boys and girls: born in 1997 and after

- 16U boys and girls: born in 1996 and after

Goals

1

To extend the 2012/2013 sports season, thus

maintaining the participating teams motivated to

continue training beyond the regular season.

2

To mark the end of the sports season through a

tournament where the gatherings and the moments

of fraternization between the participating teams are

a constant and that give this event unique

recreational features.

3

To gather in Lousã and neighbouring regions the

family of European youth volleyball.

To allow coaches to test teams and players that will be part of the age classes of 13U, 14U, 15U and 16U in the season of 2013/2014. Especially important for

teams that, still playing mini-volleyball this year, want to enter the tournament to teach 6x6.

↑ Organization

↑ Official Referees

↑ Volunteers

↑ Collaborators

The organization of the Summer Cup is comprised of about 15 elements who

constitute the main "core", with orange uniform. In close partnership with these elements, there are about 30 "collaborators."

These elements are the Summer Cup operatives at the competition, transportation and meal venues. They wear a green uniform and are responsible for the organizational immediate tasks.

Also, Summer Cup is privileged to have a group of official referees who

coordinate the refereeing operations of the event, along with about 100 volunteers.

In total, there are about 150 elements to perform organizational tasks that

contribute to achieving one of the best volleyball tournaments in the world for

younger age classes.

Accommodation

The accommodation will be held in classrooms of Lousã schools (Secondary School, EB 2/3 and Primary School) and the Secondary School of Miranda do Corvo. The organization will provide mattresses, so each participant should bring a sleeping bag or bedding and pillow. Meals will take place in school canteens and the registration fee for each team already includes the meal costs throughout the tournament..

The minimum number of elements for the 13U and 14U delegations is 10

elements: 9 athletes + 1 coach.

There is no maximum limit of players per team; however there is a mandatory

minimum of 10 elements, 9 of which must be athletes.

This requirement is due to the mandatory presence of 9 athletes per game in

order to observe the rule of players' rotation between sets.

It will be up to the teams and clubs decide whether it is more feasible to have a

larger number of players per team or enter two teams in the same age/sex class,

even if one of them is also composed of players from a lower age class.

13U M/F and 14U M/F delegations

In the 13U and 14U competition of the SC, the rules

of the Portuguese Federation of Volleyball must be

observed, according to which, between sets, coaches

have to replace three players, and no player can play

three consecutive sets.

Similarly, there are no substitutions during the sets.

This table illustrates a case where the coach made

the minimum number of substitutions; of course he

could have done more substitutions so that 12

players could play.

Page 8: XIV Summer Cup 2013

15U

Goals of this new age class:

- To enable the participation of some 15U teams consisting of a few 14U players and that may still compete

within their group.

- To give teams the chance of registering 14U players, even if the teams do not have the mandatory number of

nine athletes to compete at this age class. This way, teams can register in the 15U competition.

- To provide a tool for coaches of 14U teams to prepare for the next 15U or 16U season, therefore playing without restrictions regarding the substitution of players between sets.

After the success of the first 15U

competition, in 2012, the Summer

Cup will include, this year, the 16U

competition!

The minimum number for male/female 15U and 16U teams is 6 athletes. However, we recommend teams to bring at least 8 athletes, allowing the necessary rotation of players, thus preventing the appearance of any lesions. In this age class, the rules of mandatory players' substitution between sets do not apply; all players can be substituted during the game.

Goals of this new age class:

- To enable the participation of some 16U teams consisting of a few 15U players and that may still compete within

their group.

- To provide a tool for coaches of 16U teams to prepare for the next 18U season. In this sense, the libero will be

allowed to play.

16U

Now for 16U too!

Note that the time limit for payment of the fees is June 20 (fifteen days before the tournament starts). From that date onwards, the registration fee will be €150. This seeks to prevent late registrations, which would negatively affect the event's planning

In order to be able to organize an event of this size, the collaboration of each individual participant through the Registration Fee is essential, serving to meet the following expenses: → Accommodation, 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 4 dinners, hygiene and safety (in 6 schools and 5 game halls), physical therapy, refereeing, logistics, transportation, promotion, animation, administration…

Teams travelling by plane

Getting to Lousã – Portugal

If teams coming from the Azores and Madeira and foreign countries, coming by plane, are interested in transportation between the airport of Lisbon and Lousã (approximately 220 km from Lousã) may ask the collaboration of the event's organization. Thus, the organization will provide buses that will transport several teams from the airport of Lisbon or Porto to Lousã. In order to address the transportation costs for the buses made available to teams, for each of the following routes: • Airport of Lisbon » Lousã = €11 € per person • Lousã » Airport of Lisbon = €11 € per person Each element of the delegation should pay €22 for transportation - roundtrip. ► Obviously, the participating teams are not required to use the organization transportation in their trips to Lousã. If teams wish, they use the Portuguese railroad (www.cp.pt) or bus network (www.rede-expressos.pt) and book their tickets. The prices offered by train or bus companies are around 32 Euros per ticket. ► If you chose SC official transportation, we ask the teams to use the airport of Lisbon since it is easier to organize the transportation using 50 seats buses for the simultaneous transportation of several teams. ► To Portuguese and foreign teams traveling by plane, we advise to arrive on, Tuesday, July 2 during the day. The organization shall provide transportation in the afternoon and at night (adjusting the schedules to flight arrival times, with the possibility of some teams having to wait for others). ► To return, we ask teams to book their flights to Monday, July 8, if possible in the late morning or afternoon, thus preventing the exit of the airport Lousã to take place to early in the morning of July 8. ► It may be necessary that some teams have to leave early for the airport, since, for logistical reasons, buses will go as full as possible. Thus, teams whose flight schedules are closer to the first team arriving at Lisbon, should go on the same bus.

The organization will provide transportation for teams during the whole tournament for all games and activities.

However, teams may use their own vehicle, thus avoiding any waiting times for official transportation and benefiting

from a greater autonomy.

Note: Official transportation will always be available even for teams that have their own vehicle
