3. Be a good listener

4. Asking skill

5. Giving opinion

6. Telling information

V. LEARNING MATERIAL

Determining the pH by using some indicators.

The simple indicators like litmus paper or fenolftalein only give the description

about the properties of solution (acid, base, or neutral), but it doesn’t show the pH.

Litmus paper for example, gives red colour in the solution that have pH untill 5,5. It

means that litmus paper can’t differ the solution that have pH 1 from 2 or 2 from 3, etc.

Page 4: XI Part 2 Asam Basa English

Because of the pH trayek of each indicators, so the pH of solution can be determined by

the combination of some indicators.

Example : A blue solution if it’s dropped by blue bromtymol indicator (6,0-7,6) and

colorless by using fenolftalein indicators (8,3-10,0). What is the pH of its

solution?

Answer : If it is used Blue Bromthymole indicator and produce blue colour, it means that

the pH of solution more than 7,6. If it is used phenolphtalein indicator and

colorless, it means that the pH less than 8,3.

So, the pH of solution between 7,6-8,3.

7,6 < pH < 8,3

VI. LEARNINGMODEL :

Learning model : Cooperative

Type : Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD)

Learning method : Experiment, discussion, presentation and question and answer

VII. TOPIC : Acid Base Solution

VIII. LEARNING ACTIVITY

A. Introduction

Phase 1 : Present Goals and Set

Exploration

1. Teacher relate the topic by giving some question about acid base theory

2. Teacher motivate the student with showing some picture about various indicator to

identify the properties of acid base solution.

3. Teacher explain the learning objectives to students

B. Main Activity

Phase 2 : Present Information

Page 5: XI Part 2 Asam Basa English

Elaboration

4. Teacher explain outline of matter that will be studied.

5. Teacher inform about learning model that will be used.

Phase 3 : Organize Student into learning team

6. Teacher divided students into some groups. Each group consist of three students

heterogeneously.

7. Teacher conditioning students to gather with their groups.

8. Teacher distribute worksheet to each student.

Phase 4 : Assist teamwork and study

9. Teacher ask student to start the experiment

10. Teacher walk around and monitoring the activities of students during experiment,

emphasize that responsibility, cooperate well, be good leader in experiment group is

required to students

11. Teacher guide students in finishing worksheet based on experiment result

accurately, emphasize honest, can be trusted, and help friend that needed is required

to students.

Phase 5 : Test over materials

12. Teacher ask student to present the result of their discussion in front of the class and

other students become good listener, emphasize that open minded and listen

friend’s opinion to student during discussion.

13. Teacher gives opportunity student to ask (give question).

14. Teacher gives opportunity student to express their opinion about answer of other

friend.

C. Closure

Phase 6: Provide recognition

15. Teacher gives reward for the best group, great group and super group.

Confirmation

16. Teacher give feedback to the learning material

Procedure :

1. Take 1 ml of each solutions that will be

identified and measured the pH than put each solution into test tubes. After that, take each

solution using pipettes about 5 drops and put into plat. Give symbol or label in every hole of

plat of each solutions.

2. Take the cutting universal indicators paper

and dip the side into each solution in plat. Look at the changing colour.

3. Match the colour of universal indicators paper

from activity 2 with standard colours are there in the pack of universal indicators paper than

read its pH scale. Repeat the experiment by using blue litmus paper and red litmus paper.

Observe the changing colour of blue litmus paper.
