Heron Class’s News

Heron class have had another busy week both in school and at home. They have continued to work hard on their batik cushions, this week painting and ironing out the wax. All that is left to do is to sew them. At home, they were set the challenge of building a bridge out of spaghetti which could hold a weight of 250g. As you can see in the photos, they managed this and even managed to add a few more grams over the 250! They also kept themselves busy making instruments out of cardboard. We had all sorts from guitars, to recorders to drums. Another great week. Well done Herons!

Mrs Rose

Kingfisher Class’s News Year Three have been finding out all about volcanoes this week. There have been so many exciting activities going on in your houses! I have seen a few exploding volcanoes and lots of amazing writing. The children were challenged to fix some sick sentences, continue a volcano story and make volcano fact sheets, there were some fabulous examples of each task. The life skill challenge this week was to learn to tie your shoelaces - big shout out to Max who mastered it! Keep up the great efforts everyone, I really love to see what you have been doing. Mrs Turner

Owl Class’s News One of our Owls was a ‘human Buckaroo’ this week and balanced objects on himself! This week we made a bug hotel, used Lego to complete our maths, wrote a weekly reflection a 'How not to do something' - using contractions.

The Owls used many scientific skills this week, exploring, observing and describing microhabitats. Some made their own in the form of bug hotels. They tallied the number of mini-beasts they found in these envi-ronments and then drew pictograms to chart their results. They learnt how to use commas in a list and wrote out their holiday lists (hopefully)! Then they used their understanding of contractions and practised their spelling by writing 'How NOT to do something'! Other successes included a wildlife film of a visiting hedgehog, a beautiful loaf of bread and some-one who learnt to ride their bike without stabilisers. We celebrate all your achievements Owls. Well done and keep learning. Mrs Sims

Woodpecker Class’s News

This week Woodpeckers have been reading and watching Just So Stories and the Tinga Tinga Tales. They have thought of 'I wonder why...' statements and have decided on an animal to write their own Just so style story about which they have then story-mapped or created as a comic strip. They have been look-ing at classification keys in Science and have made their own for a particular habitat. They have visited somewhere in their local area and look for signs of environmental danger. Finally they have followed an art lesson on YouTube and have produced some amazing bees. Well done Woodpeckers, you have really impressed us again this week. As an extra note, Isaac and his family have completed all 65 of Joe Wicks’ workouts during

lockdown!

Robin Class’s News

This week in Robins we have travelled to Africa with Phileas Fogg. We have found out lots of interesting facts and created information pag-es using our research. We have been getting messy in Art making globes, African masks and silhouette sunset pictures. As always we are continuing to work hard in our phonics and spelling through word sorting, word searches and writing sentences. Well done Robins for your fantastic learning this week.

Falcon Class’s News

The children in Falcon Class have been busy this week researching all sorts of information about the astronaut Tim Peake in order to write a biography about him. The children have also been recapping key mathematical skills including: long multiplication and short division. Some of the Falcons went on a 'colour walk' where they photographed or sketched things that they saw in their

local environment; they then used their photos and colourful sketches to make a rainbow.

The children also looked at work by the artist Jackson Pollock and painted their own splatter paintings. As always, the Falcons have been busy baking; I am very impressed by the care and presentation of their cakes, pizzas and bread. Well done Falcons! Mrs Compton

A message from Mrs de Villiers:

I wouldn’t normally encourage a gaming website but I really like the look of this one! It’s created by the parents of triplets and has lots of content but the Classic 80s Retro section looks a lot of fun!

Take a trip back in time with your children and show them the simple pleasures we had with Pacman; Donkey Kong; Tetris and more! Great fun for a bit of family competitiveness or a rainy day!

Wren Class’s News

This week in Wrens we have been learning about Jungles as part of our ‘Wonderful World’ topic. We’ve had so much fun!

We had a great Outdoor Learning session pretending to be in the jungle – exploring the habitat and looking for animals. We had fun pretending to be the animals we ‘found’ in the jungle from tigers to flamingos to crocodiles to monkeys – and what noisy monkeys they were!

The children at home have made some lovely jungle animals – one Wren made a great repeated pattern snake and another made a lovely lion!

Another Wren had a great idea and made a snake fruit kebab – this was also in a repeating pattern – doesn’t it look delicious?

We’re looking forward to another week of jungle learning too!

In maths we’ve been particularly loving using dominoes! Using them to create addition sums; subitising numbers (recognising the amount of dots without needing to count them); creating towers with careful balancing - the winner is pictured below - and of course creating the longest domino runs - here is a picture of that winner!

We are looking forward to the return of the sunshine next week!

Keyworkers’ Children’s News

Some of the key worker bubble had fun build-ing very tall towers, exploring volcanoes (some of which we made explode!) and we made inverse art creations.
