Class News
In Year 3 this term, the learning has been focussed around the topic of Search and
Rescue and also electricity during our Science Lesson. It sure has been an exciting
topic for the children and has led to them designing and making their own fantastic,
working lighthouses. In English, we have been learning about playscripts and to finish
off this topic with a bang, we ended with our excellent Christmas performance, A
Magical Christmas Journey, which we hope you all enjoyed as much as we did. Every
child in Year 3 has worked extremely hard in their first term at Junior School and there
was no better way to end it other than all of the children playing a very special part in
our beautiful, touching Christingle service. I am extremely proud of all of the children
for such an amazing effort in this service and their first term in Year 3. Have an amazing
Christmas and we look forward to welcoming you all back in the New Year for more
exciting learning adventures.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you for all your support this term
with your children’s learning. They have
worked very hard and we are really pleased
with them. Look out for our new website in
January which we hope will improve
communication with parents, but also
inform you more of what’s going on in every
year group across the Federation.
Due to security reasons, the Junior School
Victoria Road gate will be locked at 3:30pm
every day from January 5th. Children in
clubs will need to exit or be collected from
the High Street (car park side) entrance.
Finally, a very Merry Christmas from all
staff at Wyke Regis Primary Federation. We
look forward to seeing you in the New year.

In Year One we have been using our
amazing Maths skills to solve a range of
different problems. The school dinner
company wrote to us asking us to help
them work out how many of each food
item they needed to order to make us a
special Christmas dinner. We each drew
a dinner and then used our counting skills
to count to 100 accurately. We recorded
this information in a table to send to them
to make sure they made exactly the right
amount.
The Year One Christmas carol concerts were
a fantastic success. We all looked amazing in
our Christmas jumpers and sang like angels,
even our grownups joined in with Rudolph the
Red Nosed Reindeer.

The Reception children have been lucky enough to have a basketball coach in this half
term. They have been learning to bounce, catch and move with the ball. Molly was
particularly good at this! The Early Years Curriculum encourages children's own interests
and a few weeks ago the boys were particularly interested in building bridges. Mrs March
found a picture of a viaduct and challenged them to recreate it. They worked well as a team
discussing and revising their plans and showing characteristics of effective learning. They
did a fantastic job!

We have had a great term looking in Science at
adaptation and variation. We studied how different
species vary - including humans, woodlice, and
strawberries and have attempted to camouflage our
own moths after finding out about peppered moths.
(Can you spot them?) We have also adapted an alien
to a planet in our report writing for Literacy and are
currently writing fabulous stories set in imaginary
worlds. Have a look at our drama pictures.

5JB5JB5JB5JB In Year 5, we are not only facing the final countdown to
Christmas but also to the end of our topic about space -
‘Out of this World’. During this half term we have found
out about the Sun and Moon, Earth and its neighbours
and also life as an astronaut. We thoroughly enjoyed our
own ‘space walk’ when a classroom was converted into
the solar system for a day. After researching planets
for homework, we worked in teams to produce presen-
tations for Year 2. We had a great afternoon, sharing our
work with Classes 7,8 and 9. Not only did they listen
well, they also came up with some excellent questions of
their own.

With Christmas around the corner, December is always a busy month. Before the festivities
could begin, Year 6 had to continue to work hard and complete practise SATs papers,
getting ready for the BIG SATs next year. Excellent progress has been made and we would
like to take this opportunity to thank all the children for working so hard ☺. We have also
had our Christingle service and the pupils performed brilliantly. We are ending the term with
our annual Christmas Carol Service which is always a success and we will have our
Christmas party with a special guest ‘Mr. Muddle’ – singing, dancing, playing party games
and eating party food. Such a great way to end a brilliant term! All of the staff in Year 6
would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
