Introduction
• The current research was completed within the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013 project Baltic Biogas Bus. With regards to the project, Tartu City Government has agreed to buy (bio)gas-fuelled busses and to build the needed infrastructure.
• So far the following studies have been conducted:
1) Feasibility study of CNG busses to be used in public transport2) Study about the production of landfill gasses of Aardlapalu landfill3) Study about the selection of locations for CNG fuelling stations4) Feasibility study of a (bio)gas fuelling station5) Feasibility study of the depot for biogas busses
The current study about the procurement options of CNG busses also supports the cause of the project.

Introduction
The usage of CNG as fuel for vehicles
•Natural gas: the mixture of methane + ethane, propane, buthane, fractions of higher hydrocarbons and inert gases•Less polluting components deriving from combustion•The preference of natural gas over liquid fuel prolongs the working life of engines.
•CNG can also comprise of biogas, which has been produced by anaerobic decomposition in landfills, biogas generators and water treatment plants, and which can be further purified to obtain biomethane.

Introduction
The usage of CNG as fuel for vehicles
•Embodiments of CNG engines:a)bifuelled engine, which is capable of using both natural gas and benzineb)two-system engine, in which the engine works only on diesel or the combination of diesel and natural gas. The diesel part is used for the ignition of natural gas.c)single system engine, working only on natural gas (preferred by the bus producers)
•25 per cent less CO2 production compared to petrol fuelled cars, 20 per cent less compared to diesel cars• engine noise level 2 times lower.

Purpose of the study
•To analyse and compare CNG busses and their procurement conditions meant for serving in the public transport, having sent inquiries to different bus producers/suppliers

Methods
* To establish the best procurement choice, table comparison has been used, in where the procurement conditions (total price, delivery time, guarantee, passenger capacity) have been indicated as “+” (favourable) and “-” (unfavourable). Evaluation is based on the arithmetic mean of the procurement conditions, which has been found by using the table calculation program of MS Excel 2007. On the basis of the arithmetic mean, the delivery conditions of the 5 suppliers have been divided into criteria of pros and cons (“+” and “-”).

Price inquiries were sent to the following enterprises:
1. Keil M.A. OÜ2. Solaris Bus & Coach S.A 3. AS Silberauto4. Scania Eesti AS5. TEDOM s.r.o. (TEDOM Holding company)

Summary and recommendations
Feasible options of procurements
12m CNG busses – Mercedes-Benz Citaro CNG and TEDOM C12G.18m CNG busses – Mercedes-Benz Citaro CNG. Recommendations: *Find more info about technical properties of the busses, especially regarding the concrete solutions and Tartu city features.*More research needed about specific delivery and payment conditions.*Start negotiations with the most suitable supplier in order to sign contracts.*After the project´s preparatory phase, start the pilot project.
