General InformationSince its founding over two decades ago, California State University San Marcos has prided itself on being fully engaged in the community, technologically sophisticated, and dedicated to teaching future generations through a relevant curriculum with a global perspective. More than 9,700 students currently attend the 304-acre campus, located in the foothills of northern San Diego County, just a short distance from some of Southern California’s best beaches, and an hour from the U.S. - Mexico Border. Cal State San Marcos is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Campus FacilitiesThe campus has more than one million square feet of facilities, all of which have been constructed since 1990. The primary academic facilities include a 200,000-square-foot library that opened in 2003 and can accommodate 840,000 volumes and seat 1,600 students, two science laboratory buildings, and classroom space for more than 7,000 students. Additionally, construction is underway on 106,000-square-foot Social and Behavioral Sciences Building due for completion in 2011 and a new Public Safety Building slated for completion in the spring of 2011.

International StudentsThere are 157 international and exchange students.The largest contingents are from: • China (19%) • Japan (18%) • Korea (10%) • Germany (4%) • Canada (3%) • Mexico Thailand, Taiwan, India, Hong Kong and Malaysia each with (<3%). In addition, 100 students are enrolled in the American Language and Culture Institute.

Faculty DegreesOf the 232 tenured and tenure track faculty members, all but three have a terminal degree.
