I can analyze Wilson's 14 points and determine how they wanted to promote peace.
I can predict how the Treaty of Versailles will lead to WWII.
I can rationalize and reflect on the U.S. decision not to join the League of Nations.
How it began…
The Fourteen Points A list of American goals for the world to follow
after the war. Wanted all claims to land/territory to be adjusted
fairly Wanted all rights of individual nations to be
preserved Wanted to form a League of Nations to handle
international disputes
Peace Conference
Held at Versailles, France
France and Great Britain wanted to punish Germany for the war Wanted German territory for themselves
Resulted in the Treaty of Versailles See handout Created poverty, unrest, hatred, etc. that will lead
to WWII
U.S. Refusal to sign
U.S. Senate refused to allow the U.S. To join the League of Nations
After WWI most Americans were wanting to return to their former policy of isolationism Not getting involved in European affairs
Wilson wanted to join, and spent the remainder of his term trying to convince American to join the peace organization
The U.S. Senate's refusal to sign is what caused the League to be ineffective.
American Isolationism
Throughout the 1920's and 1930's the U.S. Will continue its policy of isolationism.
Only involved with trade and economic issues
How do you think this will affect European affairs in the 20's/30's?
