If you've always wanted to learn how to play the game of 9 Ball, then here's your chance this semester! Join Director of Facilities Don Eason as he will show you the fundamentals of shooting and strategy. You will be learning several different pool games that you can play with your friends. I can't think of a better way to learn the game than with our own local pool shark! Don't forget to chalk!

Join Director of Facilities Don Eason as he joins us for another semester of Bible Study w/ Don! Don will be teaching a study class that will draw parallels between the Old and New Testaments and will help bridge your understanding of The Bible in its entirety. Take this opportunity to spend some time in the scripture learning more about God's Word.

Are you a fan of the Indiana Jones movies? Do you like learning about history? If so, then join fellow Resident and amateur archaeologist, Dick Wheaton! This semester Dick will be teaching us all about the archaeological digs that are happening in and throughout the holyland. This class will explore the academic research and scholarship of the archaeology from The Bible and how it has made a profound impact on human history. Let your inner explorer flourish this semester!

Join Executive Director Desiree Rogers on a journey through paperback and hardback. A variety of books will be read and discussed this semester. There is sure to be a book that appeals to every bookworm at heart. Never judge a book by its cover, but by the content of its pages...as the expression goes! If you are a fan of critiquing literary content, then come and crack the cover of a novel or two with Desiree this semester!

Join us for a continuing Watermark University Bible study class. We will be exploring the early foundations of the church through the Book of Acts. If you are interested in learning about the early church leaders and the earliest years of Christianity, then this class is just for you. The class will include reading and group discussion and is open to anyone interested in learning about Christianity. We look forward to having you learn with us.

Do you like to color…doodle…draw? If so, then we have a class for you! Join Communtiy Life Assistant Karol Swain for Adult Coloring Design. It's a fun place to come an create some wonderful art while expressing your inner child whimsy, but creating and making art with the elevated designs of an adult! Come create with us today!

Join Victoria Carpenter of Interim Healthcare for a health topic presentation on Alzheimer's Awareness. This class will help to educate you about the signs of the disease as well as present helpful resources for getting help with a family or friend with Alzheimer's. Suffering from joint inflamation or arthritis? Come learn some helpful information that can help aid in your management of Arthritis. Do you like creating things? How about funny greeting cards? We've got a class for you! This class comes to you from the mind of Resident Corinne Hartnett! Corinne loves to make others smile with her art, and she's going to teach you some simple crafting ideas to share with your loved ones too! "Something as simple as a picture and a few words can make a person smile", says Corinne. Follow Corinne's lead and take this opportunity to create some art and share some happiness with others!

If you are accustomed to a game called "Corn Hole" or "Bean Bag", then you will love this fun and strategic game called, Corn Bag! Teaching this class is Resident Roger Mattingly. He will be teaching us the official rules of the game and then we will be opening up for some competitive gameplay. Come learn a new game that is a bushel basket of fun!

Do you like to read? If so, then join Community Life Assistant Karol Swain for her class called, Cast of Characters. This book helps to examine the lives of Biblical characters and contextualize them in a relatable way to the reader. This unique reading experience helps to show us how extraordinary things can happen in the lives of ordinary people. This class will include reading and group discussion. Come and get a refreshing perspective on The Creator.

Are you interested in learning a decorative handwriting technique that will impress your friends and family? Take this opportunity to join Driver Jody Lewis for his Watermark University class called Calligraphy. This decorative stylized writing class helps you to practice your writing technique while learning some impressive fonts to wow your letter companions with! Come craft some beautiful letters with us!

Do you like games of strategy and wit? This is the game for you! Join volunteer and community friend Rod Crites as he teaches the basic rules and strategies to chess. This classical board game has a long tradition of being the game of great thinkers and is steeped in a long history. Take this opportunity to learn a fun game that never gets old. Join us on Fridays for a Bible reading and discussion class about the Apostle Paul's letter to the Romans. We will be going verse by verse to explore a deeper understanding of Paul's letter and what good news his message heralds for all. Take this opportunity to read and meditate on scripture with us.

Join Resident Lois Larkins for her loom knitting class called Looped Togther. This semester you will learn how to knit on a look and create such things as hats, scarves, and other functional yarn clothes. Take this opportunity to get all strung up, but not strung out in this fun and easy knitting class.

Who doesn't like dogs? No one I know! This semester volunteer Vanessa Barrett will be switching her roles as the yoga instructor and instead helping our hearts to soar with a little bit of puppy love! This semester she will be bringing her loveable dog "Jack" to come play and cuddle with the Residents who are wanting a hearty dose of puppy RX. Take this opportunity to spend some time with Vanessa and Jack this semester!

Come check out this health presentation just for the dudes! This class will discuss a variety of men's health topics as well as some good health practices and important medical examination for men to do regularly. This class will be lead by Victoria Carpenter and the amazing nurse group of Interim Healthcare. Don't miss out on this timely health discussion just in time for Father's Day. Ladies are welcome and encouraged to attend too for that special guy in your life!

The best part of waking up is Folger's in your cup…well at least for most! How about skipping that cup of joe and heading to the MPR for a morning walk and meditation. This class will be lead by Business/HR Director Traci Wood. She will be leading a morning meditation of deep breathing and stress releasing exercises that will help to promote good circulation, good heart, and most importatntly a good state of mind! Following the meditation there will be a leisurely walk around the grounds to get the blood pumping! Come start your day off with Traci this semester!

Join Amy Umsted in her art class, Paper Stained Glass! You will learn to create beautiful simulated 2-D stained class using tissue paper and decoupage. This fun class is a great way for you to design and express in an artful way the beauty and vibrant colors that make-up stained glass. Come create something beautiful with Amy this semester!

If you are walking through the Multi-Purpose Room on a Friday and you hear the sound of Michael Sembello's "Maniac" or Michael Jackson's "Beat It", then you know that Myron is in the house! Come and join physical trainer Myron Frye for his motivating and energizing chair aerobics exercises that are sure to keep you active and moving along to the beat of these energetic sounds!

Resident Norma Boman is a fan for quilting and she has put her passion for stitchin' to good use in her first Watermark University class, Quilting! This semester she will be teaching the basics of cutting, measuring, sewing, and creating beautiful quilted pieces. If you have ever been interested in learning to quilt then this your opportunity to learn this semester! Come quilt with us!

Do you have a sweet tooth, but he doctor tells you that you need to cut back? Well, this might be a solution for you! Join Driver Jennifer Riley as she teaches a monthly cooking demonstration class about low sugar baking and baking natural fruits and plant extracts like the stevia plant! These natural alternatives to sugar are a great way to enjoy your baked goods but reduce the caloric and sugar intake! Don't miss out on some delicious goodies this semester! Let's get baking!

You will take in all of the sights and stories in Rene's multimedia presentation about his latest trip abroad! This travelogue is a full immersion experiences of culture, cuisine, and history! FACULTY BIO

Jason Barrett is the Community Life Director at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Jason graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with an emphasis in commercial art. Jason loves to contribute to Watermark University by sharing some of his hobbies, interests, and the arts. In his free time he enjoys reading, especially New York Time’s bestselling book for the past 2000 years, The Bible! This semester Jason is excited to be teaching Acts of the Apostles Continued & Letters of Paul: Romans. Come and explore the Bible for first time…or for the hundredth time! Vanessa Barrett is a volunteer at The Fountains at Greenbriar. She works for the Fort Osage School District and has a Yoga Studio that she manages too. She has recently taught such classes as Yoga Stretch and Scrapbooking. This semester Vanessa will be resting her stretching class for a bit and joining us for a new opportunity for relaxation…through furry form! Join her this semester for her class called Pet Therapy. You will learn to center yourself with peace and joy through the pint-sized loveable dog…Jack! Come relax with Jack today!

Norma Bowman is a new Resident at The Fountains at Greenbriar. She loves to spend her free time with her family and friends. She is an avid sewer and quilter, and has made many quilts in her time. This semester Norma is looking forward to joining us for her first Watermark University class called none other…Quilting! This class will teach the fundamentals to quilting and you will learn how to make such things as pillow wall hangings, table runners, and much more if you join Norma in her class this semester. Her class will be announced starting in June. Come stitch some strips with Norma today! Victoria Carpenter is the Community Liaison for Interim Healthcare. She is working with a team of nurses to create impactful opportunities for each of the communities that Interim Healthcare provides services in. She will contribute to the Watermark University program with a monthly topical health presentation to educate everyone on some important health related topics! These classes will include Men’s Health, Alzheimer’s Awareness, Arthritis Awareness, and Eye health awareness. Join Victoria this semester for some important health information!

FACULTY BIO

Julie Clark is a volunteer at The Fountains at Greenbriar. By day, Julie is a Correctional Officer for the Kansas City Department of Corrections, but by night Julie is an aerobics fanatic! Julie loves to spend her free time with her family and her friends, especially Resident Pat Westman! She has been teaching a Latin dance based aerobics class called Zumba for a few years now and has just recently been certified to teach senior adults! Join Julie this semester for her third Watermark University class called Zumba Gold!

Rene Comtois is a Driver at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Rene is also a retired teacher from the North Kansas City School District. As a teacher, Rene taught Physical Education, English, and Reading Programs. Rene also enjoys spending his free time traveling with his wife Nancy. When not traveling the world in some far away country, Rene loves to spend his time with his grandson Evan. Evan enjoys playing video games with his grandpa, especially the Nintendo Wii! This semester you can join Rene in his class about virtual golf called Wii Golf! No drivers or putters necessary! Also catch Rene in his class Travelogue: France! Chuck Couch is a Resident at The Fountains at Greenbriar. He had lived at Greenbriar for a little over 4 years and is best known for his wonderful collection of Stetson cowboy hats! He is very active in the community and loves to go on outings to mystery dinner, pizza outing, ROMEO Club, New Theatre Restaurant, and any sports outing, especially the Kansas City Royal! In addition to Chuck’s many hobbies and interest the one that occupies much of his time is playing cards. Poker precisely is his card game of choice, but even more so would be a poker game called Texas Hold’em! This semester join Chuck for his first Watermark University class and learn to play poker with Chuck!

Rod Crites is a volunteer at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Rod is a longtime friend with one of our Residents. The majority of their relationship has been spent over a board game, specifically chess! This semester join Rod for a class called Chess for Beginners! He believes that learning to play chess is a great way for keeping the mind active and engaged by using your brain for problem solving strategies. Help to strengthen your mind and learn a fun game too this semester too! Don’t worry if you don’t win at first, the more you play, the better your strategy gets! Join in on some chess playing fun!

FACULTY BIO

Don Eason is the Director of Facilities at The Fountains at Greenbriar. He is a licensed Master Electrician and owned his own business for 15 year before coming to Greenbriar. He enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends and is an avid student and teacher of The Bible. Apart from his time devoted to scripture he enjoys recreationally playing pool and billiards. This semester you can join him in two Watermark University classes called Bible Study w/ Don or 9 Ball! Learn something new with Don this semester!

Myron Frye is a professional fitness trainer who specializes in physical fitness programs for aging adults. Every semester Myron joins us for his fun and active fitness regimens. This semester, Myron will be keeping you moving and staying fit with his own style of chair aerobics. His philosophy on staying healthy is to keep moving and keep laughing. Come along every Friday for Movin’ & Groovin’! He’ll keep you moving to the beat of the music! Take this opportunity to try a new fitness program that can change your lifestyle for good!

Stephanie Garland is a Receptionist at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Stephanie loves to spend her free time with her family, friends, and attending her husband’s band performances. She is a fan of bowling and she competes in a bowling league with her husband. This semester she will be conducting a bowling league that will simulate the whole bowling experience without ever having to pick up a bowling ball. She will be using the Nintendo Wii to simulate a bowling league in her class called Wii Bowling League. You can also join her this semester for her class Weight Loss Challenge! Don’t miss out on the fun! Corinne Hartnett is a Resident at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Corinne has a passion for crafting and drawing pictures for friends. She believes that art is a great way for her to express her humor with images. As she says, “a picture isn’t worth looking at if it doesn’t make you laugh or smile.” Join her for this semester of Crafting Humor. Corinne will be teaching us how to make cartoon creations and craft projects to share with friends and family that will bring a smile to their face! Let the picture be your words to share with others!

Lois Larkins is a Resident at The Fountains at Greenbriar. She loves to spend her free time volunteering in the Library at Greenbriar and enjoys reading all the time, especially The Bible. As a hobby she had been creating wonderful yarn creations such as hats, scarfs, and blankets. This semester Lois will be joining us for an opportunity to share one of her passions…loom knitting. You can come make some wonderful creations with her this semester in her class called Looped Together! Come create something functional and fun with Lois!

Jody Lewis is a new Driver at The Fountains at Greenbriar. He originally hails from the great state of Texas and is the son of a Methodist pastor. He has spent much of his professional life doing interesting driving jobs and also worked as a Federal Police Office for the local division of Homeland Security. With the high-paced stress that comes with a job as a Federal Police Officer, Jody has found relaxation and solace in his newest hobby calligraphy. This semester he will be joining us for his first Watermark University class called, Calligraphy!

Roger Mattingly is a Resident at The Fountains at Greenbriar. He is a farm boy from the great state of Nebraska! Since his childhood, Roger has left the farm to go off and do other things for his career, but the life on the farm still evokes great memories. He is a die-hard Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan too! With corn being an integral part of his life on the farm to his love of Nebraska football, it doesn’t surprise us that he brings his schema for corn to his Watermark University class, Corn Bag! It’s a fun game that you will enjoy!

Carey Peters is the Move-In Coordinator at The Fountains at Greenbriar. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Carey is also a bit of a prankster as many around the community may know! But, all of his joking aside he is also a very knowledgeable computer and electronics guy. This semester he will be joining us for a class related to technology, specifically tablets. FACULTY BIO

Jennifer Riley is a new Driver at The Fountains at Greenbriar. She originally comes from Kearney, Missouri, but has lived in the area for quite a while. She loves to spend her free time with her family and friends. When family is around that usually means that there is going to be some baked goods too! But, instead of loading up with sugar, Jennifer is always looking for ways to bake with a more healthful approach. This semester she will be joining us for her first Watermark University class called, Sweet, But Not Too Sweet! This alternative baking class will teach you that you can cut the sugar but still enjoy some sweets! Desiree Rogers is the Executive Director at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Desiree loves to spend her free time having fun with family and friends. She is an avid reader and loves to discuss her novels with others. This semester you can join her in her monthly class called, Book Club. In addition, Desiree will also be teaching a classic dice game called, Yahtzee! This is a fun fast-paced game that will keep you actively engaged and strategizing how to roll your next combo! Don’t miss out on these opportunities to learn with Desiree!

Keith Scott is a Dishwasher at The Fountains at Greenbriar. He has been at The Fountains at Greenbriar since 1991. He loves to spend his free time with family and friends. His favorite recreational hobby is fishing! There’s not as big of a fishing enthusiast quite like Keith! From wading in the cold waters of Bennett’s spring trout fishing, to casting a line at local lakes, he can’t pass up a chance to let a beautiful day pass him by without getting in a little fishing! This semester he will be teaching us responsible techniques for fishing in his class called, Friendly Fishing Techniques! Tell your friends this semester you are gone fishin’!

Karol Swain is the Community Life Assistant at The Fountains at Greenbriar. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and three children. Karol loves to read, color, and look-up funny stories in the news. This semester she will be joining us for an interesting book club reading called, A Cast of Characters. This class will be a group book study that will engage you in discussions and challenge your mind. This is a great opportunity to pick up a book to read and learn something new! You can also catch Karol in Beginning Crochet, as well as Adult Coloring Design! Learn something new with Karol this semester!

Amy Umsted is a Server at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Amy is a published author in The National Library of Poetry Annuals for her creative writing and poetry. She is also an accomplished jewelry maker and artist. She has been making jewelry for over 10 years for craft fairs and jewelry expositions. She has also been studying art since high school and loves to draw. Join Amy this semester in her art classes called Jewelry Making, Paper Stained Glass, and Flower Arranging! Come create something with Amy this semester!

Dick Wheaton is a Resident at The Fountains at Greenbriar. He is a retired pastor and has lived in the community for almost 3 years. In addition to his career as a pastor, he has also studied and become an amateur archaeologist! In his free time he likes to travel to archaeological sites and dig with university research teams. He is also an accomplished mineralogist and rock collector. Richard will be returning to Watermark University to teach two classes this semester Scripture Study and Biblical Archaeology. Can you dig it? Richard can!

Georgia Wilmarth is a coordinator for AARP Driving Courses. Georgia has been coordinating driving programs for over 20 years through AARP. Ensuring that people are educated and informed about best driving practices and new road regulations is a topic that lies deep at the heart of Georgia’s classes. Join Georgia this semester as she gives a rejuvenating lecture about safe driving practices in her class called Driver’s Safety! Learn some useful tips on how to navigate the road safely and more securely.

Evan Windes is the grandson of Associate Rene Comtois! Evan is going on 9 years old and attends Little Blue Elementary School just down the road from Greenbriar! Evan has a beloved Boxer named Bailey. Evan plays soccer and is an All-Star goalie. For such a young age, Evan is already an accomplished traveler. Evan has traveled to such places as: Florida, Vermont, Texas, Myrtle Beach, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, and has been on two cruises to Cozumel Mexico and to the Bahamas! This semester Evan will be sharing his experiences in Travelogue: Florida!

Traci Wood is the HR / Business Office Director at The Fountains at Greenbriar. Traci is originally from Kansas, but has been living in Utah for a while. Traci is happy to have returned to her home state and now to be working at our wonderful community! She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and 14 year old son. Traci is always looking for ways to simplify the hectic areas in life and she finds that a great way to start out the day is with a relaxing and leisurely walk with meditation.
