It’s only when you reflect back over the year that you realise just how
busy it’s been. 2014 has been a bumper year for us supplying machinery
into many leading global manufacturing companies spanning across a
wide range of industries including food, drink, pharma, cosmetics &
toiletries, household & chemical industries.
Our machinery partners have developed and produced new designs and
improvements with great success throughout the year to meet our
customers’ continuing requests.
Many of these were seen for the first time, being launched at the Interpack exhibition in
Dusseldorf, Germany earlier in the year. However, for those who didn’t get to see these, they
are summarised within this annual newsletter.
It’s been an incredible year for Monolab; whilst they are a
recognised name throughout Europe’s pharmaceutical,
household, cosmetics & toiletries manufacturers, in the UK until
now they have been little known.
That has all changed with their affiliation with Springvale, this year
seeing the 1st machine delivered and installed into the UK.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MONOLAB – WE LOOK FORWARD TO
CONTINUED SUCCESS IN 2015….
Whilst selecting your festive treats this year, you’ll
find it difficult to miss these very attractive shaped
cartons. United Biscuits this year gave the Victoria
brand of biscuits a new packaging format from the
traditional tubs into re-closable hinged cartons.
Langen, successfully winning the bid, installed
horizontal cartoners to pack these.

Mespack, along with Langen’s collation and
cartoning expertise, together offer manufacturers a
full turnkey solution.
Langen’s recently launched MARIN™ hygienic
intermittent motion cartoner is especially suitable
behind a single sachet, stickpack or pouch making
machine reducing the need for changeovers and
increasing process efficiency. Using a bomb-bay
feed for sticks, it is capable of handling up to 800
sticks per minute.
With stick infeed it is fully aligned with the needs of
stick manufacturers and its compact footprint
makes fitting it in with existing equipment easier.
MESPACK Packaging Machinery of
Barcelona this year launched their
MS600 compact stickpack machine to
complement their existing machine
portfolio, which includes horizontal and
vertical form, fill, seal machines for
sachets, pouches and stickpacks.
Features include: 600mm reel width,
available in 4 – 6 lanes, open tube
frame, hygienic design, integrated
electrical cabinet, free access to
operating side of machine, PLC
controlled auto lubrication, 12” Allen-
Bradley colour touch screen, servo
driven main film drive system,
pneumatically expandable reel shaft,
full servo technology (on request), ATEX
compliance (on request) and can be
supplied with augers, volumetric
systems and flowmeters making it ideal
for liquids and free or non-free flowing
products reaching an output of up to 75
strokes a minute.

The Compact 5 cartoner features a combined tuck in
and hot melt closure, with a tamper – evident seal
and up to five filling stations, enabling several
components to be inserted into each box. This in
turn makes it possible for several operators to
handle the filling.
This machine design also incorporates a fully
automated leaflet inserter for user information and
an HP cartridge printing system plus, particularly
important for pharmaceutical packaging, all current
reputable systems (PCE, Antares, Lateus, OCS, Optel,
etc) for serialization and track and trace can be
integrated seamlessly.
The compact design is available in standard or
pharmaceutical versions. Robustness and flexibility
makes these machines suited to anybody needing to
pack very small to medium sized production runs.
This year UET presented their latest
design the Compact 5, seen as a
future proof cartoning machine,
which enables customers to handle
a wide range of box sizes without
incurring any costs for size part
replacement and run boxes with
different closing features, which
until now have not been possible to
pack on 1 machine.
UET stretched the boundaries this year building a machine that could accommodate
“trial sized” cartons, selling not one but two to a premium cosmetics manufacturer.
The specially adapted Compact 3, still with a fully adjustable starwheel, patented by
UET, can run cartons within the range indicated;
Width 25-120 mm, Depth 18-46 mm, Height 31-78 mm
The Compact 3 featuring tooling for either tuck-in cartons or hot melt cartons has a
single loading station enabling operators to manually load the tester pots, spatulas,
brushes, leaflet.
Perfect for the today’s consumers needs of “try before you buy”.

Mespack, famous for their horizontal f-f-s
machines, are proud to announce the
development of the ML series of full servo drive
technology intermittent motion 4 side seal
multilane sachet machines.
Available in 2 models ML 1000 – ML 1200, range
from 4 – 10 lanes.
The ML series incorporates the newest motion
technology with integrated PLC functions which
sequences 7 brushless motors.
The ML Series includes ACMS (Auger Cleaning Management System), a new concept which
allows the auger to be lowered automatically to operator level for easy cleaning.
Particularly suited for a multitude of products, granules, powder and liquids and is widely
used in pharma, food, home & personal care sectors.
2014 has seen Langen Packaging Group respond to increased customer
demand for assured hygiene standards by redesigning its entire range of
cartoning machines.
This has been done by defining, applying and implementing 7 key principles:
> Solid components only > Fewer flat and horizontal surfaces
> Minimum contacts > Modular assemblies > No hidden dust traps
> Easy to clean materials > Simplified design
Langen’s product range benefits customers, reducing likelihood of bacterial build-up, easier
cleaning to reach higher hygiene standards, improved operational efficiency and better
ergonomic design for operators and high safety levels, fully compliant with all regulatory
requirements. It is also based on a modular structure enabling simple and comparatively low
cost system enhancements.

2014 has been a good year for weigh filling/capping specialist Pack’R in the UK & Ireland with
plenty of orders from three of their key market sectors:
- Edible Oil into Ring style bottle in box containers, metal cans and buckets
- Industrial Cleaning Chemicals into 5, 10 & 20 litre containers
- Drinks Concentrates into a wide range of plastic & glass containers
Pack’R has some unique features that make their equipment highly suitable for a wide range of
applications:
- Pressurised product hopper allows accurate control throughout the batch and the ability to
fill a wide range of product viscosities
- Patented “clean in place” system for very quick product changes, producing a minimal
amount of effluent in the process
- Brushless motor rotary capping solution, also available for ATEX applications.
For more than 40 years, FEIGE FILLING has been building automatic systems for liquid products primarily
into 200 litre drums. There are more than 100 installations in the UK some more than 30 years old.
Feige has developed an innovative factory and design system known as FEIGE FACTORY DESIGN.
If you would like to look at your new drum filling line long before it is installed in your production facility
FEIGE FACTORY DESIGN shows you how. With an accurate, photo-realistic visualisation, you can see
your future equipment before it is ordered. To make this possible, the planned equipment is adapted to
the intended environment. Features inside the filling room e.g. an old system comprising subsequent
extensions and conversions, pillars, doors etc, are recorded by means of a 3D laser scan and taken into
consideration.
This new procedure saves you time and costs. Planning is
clearly simplified and accelerated. Tedious drawing work or
on-site actions have become superfluous. The accurate and
realistic pre-visualisation ensures there are no unexpected
problems during installation, saving time and money.

The subject of product re-working is not as glamourous as the packing of new products. However, it
is a fact of production that waste product is created and it is not acceptable or financial viable to
simply dump the packs.
Leu-Tronic is a German company with a unique “knife less” system to open and separate a wide
range of products with a 98% recovery rate. Products suitable for re-working include:
- Tea & coffee bags - Sachets of sugar, coffee, creamer etc - Pillow packs of snack products
- Flow wraps of biscuits, chocolate etc., - Coffee pods
Some products can be re-worked in-line so the product is
immediately returned into the production process so there is
no double handling of waste product and no cleaning required
between different flavoured products. Other companies
collect their waste products and process them in a bulk system
either for sale as animal feed or for re-processing.
Leu-Tronic has a solution for both options.
And bringing our machinery news features to an end, a great
Health & Safety notice seen in a manufacturing facility…..
