NEW! VETERINARY ASSISTANTWith pet ownership on the rise, the need for skilledVeterinary Assistants is in great demand. Workingwith Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians,Veterinary Assistants help to provide medical care aswell as facilitate positive customer relationships.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employ-ment is expected to increase up 35% between theyears of 2006 and 2016. Potential employers includeveterinarian clinics, animal hospitals, governmentalanimal control facilities, and pet adoption facilities.

VETERINARY ASSISTANT TRAINING Take your love of animals and turn it into a career.Learn to assist veterinarians and veterinary techni-cians as you provide medical care to sick and injuredanimals. This course includes 120 hours of study, 30 ofwhich are in a clinical externship setting. Learn how tohelp in the office as well as with examinations, hospi-tal procedures, surgical preparation, laboratory tests,and customer relations. The program is provided byMK Education and is taught by veterinary profession-als that bring real life experience to the classroom.

Please note that the clinical externship will most like-ly take place during normal business hours and suc-cessful completion of the externship is required tograduate. Externship dates will be given in the firstmonth of class to ensure ample time to informemployers of your training, if needed, as time off fromwork may be required depending on your schedule.

Course Prerequisites and Special NotesA high school diploma or GED is required. Studentsmust be able to write and speak in English and haveno prior criminal convictions.

Students will be required to meet all health require-ments including immunizations and drug testingprior to placement in the clinical portion of the course.Additionally, passing a criminal background check forwork in the clinical externship is required. The fees forthese services are NOT included in the course fee.Details will be provided at the information session.

In addition, because of the inherent requirements ofthe profession, students must have the following min-imum abilities sufficient for safe and successful prac-tice of veterinary duties: psychomotor skills (eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity) and visualacuity (normal or corrected).

INTRODUCTION TO CRANIALSACRAL MASSAGE (1.0-0) 1 HOURIn this Saturday workshop, Dr. Fazio instructs in thetechniques involved in this gentle, hands on manipu-lation of the soft tissue and bones of the cranium,spine and pelvis. This technique targets the mem-branes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds andcushions the brain and spinal cord. This system is thePrimary mechanism for nerve impulses (motor andsensory) from the Central Nervous System to the var-ious organ systems of the body and feedback return-ing to the brain. The Continuing Professional Development’sLeadership and Performance ManagementSeries is eligible for Nurse Contact hours.

The program consists of five programs that utilize a “building-block” techniqueapproach. When completed, you will beequipped with the most comprehensive andapplicable management skills available. The first course in the series, Managing yourInterpersonal Style for Greater Success,focuses on your interpersonal style and howyour behavior impacts others. The secondcourse in the series, Versatile Leadership,will help you learn how to effectively diag-nose and manage the abilities, motivationsand performance of employees, co-workers,and yourself. Subsequent courses in the program, offered in future semesters,include: Performance Management, Team Development, and three individualleadership coaching sessions. See page 17 for details.

CURRENT NURSE PRACTICEUPDATE (7.0-0) 7 HOURSThe Refresher course is a 14 week course to update thenurse on concepts relevant to nursing across the lifecycle to form the focus for theory, clinic, and the simu-lated nursing labs. The course is designed for Illinoisnurses who have not actively practiced nursing inrecent years, have an active nursing license and wish toreturn to clinical practice. This process assists thenurse in reestablishing confidence and competence.Weekly didactic sessions on Monday evenings includeAssessment, Pharmacology, End of Life Care Options,Respiratory, Cardiac, and Renal Systems, Diabetes,Ethics, Orthopedics, Wound Care, Neurological System,Psychiatric update and Gastrointestinal System. NoClass November 24. Space is limited, enroll early! ThisCNE activity is being offered for 56 contact hours.Prerequisites: Active Illinois RN Licenses, valid AHABLS Healthcare Provider Card or equivalent and meetall current clinical health requirements prior toattending the first day of clinical. TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING (CDL) (10-0) 10 HOURSThis 160-hour basic training course will prepare stu-dents for a career as a commercial truck driver. Thecourse will provide students with the knowledge andskills to prepare for the state-issued CommercialDrivers License (CDL) exams, including the permittest, pre-trip inspection test, skills tests, and roadtests. Students will learn CDL laws, use of controls,safe driving techniques, and defensive driving. Thecourse includes classroom instruction, and behind-the-wheel training. Students will take practices testsdesigned to prepare them for the CDL permit exam. Prerequisites: Students must have a valid IllinoisDrivers License Class “D” or above. They may not havecommitted a serious traffic violation in a commercialmotor vehicle within the past 12 months. Studentsmust provide a copy of their Motor Vehicle Report(MVR) from the Secretary of State’s Office prior toenrollment. 3. Register for ClassesBy Internet at www.clcillinois.edu/registerWhen you are ready to select your classes, use the CLC Classes By Term. You must specify the semester and then a subject, such as English, to view the classesavailable. To select a subject area click on the magnify-ing glass and then press the ‘Look Up’ button. Whenyou find a specific class section you want, make note of the four-digit class number.

You may register on the Web or in person in theAdmissions office, B101 at the Grayslake Campus, the Student Services office at the Lakeshore Campus or the main office at the Southlake Educational Center.

Online Self-Service requires that you have createdmyLogin. Once you have logged in, use the menu ofoptions to add or drop classes, view your schedule, viewgrades or an unofficial transcript and use many otheroptions.
