WOUND HEALING TECHNOLOGY
WOUND
It is a injury caused by external force and it can involve any tissue or organ
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues often which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
A cut or break in the continuity of any tissue, caused by injury or operation.
CLASSIFICATION OF WOUND:
1. Clean Wound
2. Colonized Wound
3. Contaminated Wound
4. Infected Wound
HEALING
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and function
Response of an organism to a physical disruption of a tissue/organ with an aim to repair or reconstitute the defect and to re-establish homeostasis.
During healing, a complex cascade of cellular events occur to achieve resurfacing, reconstitution and restoration of tensile strength of injured tissue.
The progress of healing involves two distinct processes:
REGENERATION
REPAIR
1. Inflammatory phase: It can be broken down into furthera) Clot formationb) Early inflammationc) Late inflammation
2.Proliferative phase
3.Maturation phase
PHASES OF WOUND HEALING:
PHASES OF WOUND HEALING:
a) Clot formation:
Blood vessel contraction initiated by platelet degranulation of serotonin, which acts on endothelial cell and increases the permeability of the vessel, allowing a protein rich exudate to enter the wound site
A platelet plug formation
Activation of extrinsic and intrinsic clotting mechanism
INFLAMMATORY PHASE
Characterized by formation of granulation tissue in the wound.
2 key cell types are present in this phase: a) fibroblasts
b) endothelial cells
PROLIFERATIVE PHASE:
Begins 5 to 7 days after injury.
There is conversion of granulation tissue to fibrous connective tissue and decrease parallelism of collagen to the plane of the wound.
Maturation of the epithelial layer quickly follows formation of the epithelial seal.
MATURATION PHASE:
WOUND HEALING TECHNOLOGY
1. X Stat
2. Self Healing Nanogel
3. Vetigel
4. Digital Bandage
X STAT
XStat® is applied into the wound cavity using a lightweight applicator
The applicator is available in a 30mm diameter size.
XStat® is not indicated for use in other parts of the body such as the thorax, pleural cavity, abdomen or retroperitoneal space
Is a syringe-like device that injects small, expandable, haemostatic sponges designed to stop high-flow arterial bleeding from non-compressible junctional wounds
The sponges are coated with a haemostatic agent and have a radiopaque marker attached to aid removal later using X-ray imaging.
The sponges which are containing a cellulose that have an absorbent coating
X STAT MECHANISM
SELF HEALING NANOGEL:
Nanotechnology have developed a nanogel that can accelerate the healing of burn wounds to minimize the risk of infection and scaring
The peptide hydrogels can promote skin regeneration by acting as a scaffold for skin cells to grow
When water is added, the peptide self assembled into nanofibers that entrap water to form fibrous gel which resembles the extracellular matrix
Gel which is a porous and rich in moisture acts as a scaffold to support the growth of skin cells, thereby promoting skin regeneration
Ultrashot peptide are nonimmunogenic and non toxic
Invented by Joe Landolina Student of New York University year 2015Company U.S. firm Suneris.
Veti-gel is a veterinary product, a plant-derived gel that is claimed to quickly stop traumatic bleeding on external and internal wounds.
waiting on FDA approval for human tests
VETIGEL:
they participate in the activation of muscle tissue, blood vessels or even bone structures
Composition
The gel is made of plant-derived polymers.
VetiGel is an algae-based polymer in the form of a gel & extracellular matrix or ECM.ECM are usually proteins produced by cells and they are used as supporting items – hence the name matrix
VETIGEL:
Action of vetigel:
Once it hits the damaged tissue, whether its open skin or soft organ like livers , kidneys, spleens.
Gel is instantly forms a mesh like structure
injected into wound site , the gel can form a clot within 12 sec and permanently heal the wound within min.
Fibrin helps repair tissue over the long term
Vetigel not only to work fast in sealing leaks, but to actually heal the skin within few min of application
The gels contain algae based polymers that acts as sealent, sealing the wound allows platelets to accumulate at the site of injury to form a mesh
Mesh acts as a scaffold to helps the body produce fibrin at the wound surface
VETIGEL 100% bio-compatible and should not create problems regarding our organism.
extracellular matrix (ECM) are already commonly used in laboratories, to create synthetic tissues for instance, and they are considered as relatively harmless.

Digital Bandage:
Wireless specialist has created a high tech bandage that can be used for checkings a patient vital signs
The device work by attaching it to a patients chest, enabling it to take readings every two min
Different factors the gadget can monitor include heart rate, temperature and respiration
Its like a adhesive patch
The key advantage of the system is the frequency of the data send automatically from the patch
Electronic bandages that can speed up healing
They recruited 40 volunteers who had two identical wounds created on their inner arms using a punch biopsy
One was allowed to heal naturally, while the other was treated with electric current delivered in pulses over a period of two weeks
Resulting increase in vascular growth within a treated wound the grew smaller faster than untreated one
Now a days develop a bandage that has the capability to monitor the status of a wound and administer medicine if necessary
In this type of bandages, incorporating in to the bandage electronic sensors to monitor a wound status
Researchers develop the combination of bandage and medical device are called flexible bioelectronics
Use of these smart bandage would be intended for serious wound, such as a burn injuries or chronic wound such as a diabetic foot ulcers
SMART BANDAGE
STREACHABLE HYDROGEABLE ELECTRONICS
CONCLUSION
Now a days The field of wound care is ever expanding with advances in technology. . Current wound healing products and modalities increase the armamentarium of the wound practitioner to address all aspects of wound care.
