How Are You Managing? Fall is hear again and sometimes, like the beginning a new year it is a good time in the season of our congregation to take a few minutes and consider how we can serve in our Lord’s kingdom. Many of you serve one another in our congregation in very gracious ways. But on occasion, it is good to take time in prayer and consider how we can intentionally be of service. This comes down to the very management of our lives. A more formal definition of Christian Stewardship might sound like this “the free and joyous activity of the child of God and God’s family, the church, in managing all of life and life’s resources for God’s purposes.” “Free and joyous” is how we live our lives, all in response to the work of the Holy Spirit. We are free in Jesus to live in His love rather than our sin. We can be joyous because we have promised the gift of salvation as if it were ours right now. This touches all aspects our lives. How we spend our time. How we use the gifts we have, because God has created us all very unique and the material blessings our Gods showers upon us, including our possessions and money. By the guidance of our Lord’s Word we make informed decisions on how we will live. How much time and money we will give to bless the

lives of others. For we are called to follow Jesus which means we are called to care for others through the management of our lives.

In His Service,

Pastor

LCMS Missionary Spotlight

Natalie Howard Serving the Lord in the Dominican Republic

Natalie Howard serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in the Dominican Republic. In this role, she works as a regional business administrator, helping the

leadership of the Latin America and the Caribbean region plan the effective implementation of regional strategy and identify the needed resources to meet global and regional goals for sharing the Gospel. Natalie also assists with developing and sustaining partnerships with non-profits, including those that work to support individuals with developmental disabilities and those that focus on children’s ministry.

Rev. Dr. Arthur A. Just Jr. Serving the Lord in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region

Rev. Dr. Arthur A. Just Jr. serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. His work is in partnership with Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, where he continues to serve as the chairman and professor of exegetical theology. This unique partnership makes it possible for Arthur to serve part time in this region under LCMS’ Office of International Missions.

In Latin America, Arthur serves as a theological educator, teaching various classes at the Seminario Concordia el Reformador in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He also serves as a missionary pastor in the Dominican Republic and in Spain, mentoring other LCMS missionaries serving in these countries and sharing the Gospel and the Sacraments through visits with church members.

From the Council of Ministries: All of us love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, it is one of the things that makes Pilgrim a special place to worship and serve. There is also a significant amount of volunteer work occurring in our church and school and we all need to cheerfully thank one another when we see each other in and around the church and school. Take the time, hug a Pilgrim member. As we look to our past 75 years, we can see the monumental changes that have taken place. WWII, the war was raging and we as a nation stood alone with Great Britain (the alliance with the Soviet Union was more of a shotgun wedding, not a true alliance). We truly did not know if we would win or lose the war. My mother told me this, even though it looked grim, in the back of everyone’s mind, we knew the United States was a Christian Nation, so was Britain and with God on our side, we could not, would not ever to lose the war and we and our friends across the Atlantic won the big war. After the war, the GIs came home, the church grew, the Post WWII baby boom started, new homes, new cars. Americans were ready for fun. Then came the Korean war, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, the forever war against Islamic terrorism. But we also had cars that gave up the ghost at 40,000 miles…now you can 240,000 miles out of one. Dial phones with AT&T (I do miss Ma Bell) to smart phones, no internet to a future new super internet on the horizon. Radio, to TV, to color TV, to giant color TVs with no tubes! Moon is made out of cheese to Neil Armstrong stepping foot on the moon. Pilgrim went from old town Bellevue to our new building where we currently worship. With all this change, I believe we can all agree that one thing is guaranteed, more change, lots of it. We must be ready to accept and embrace change. What will not change? Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has been our champion for over 2000 years! He is always faithful, always there for us, always our friend, while still being a stern parent at the same time. A life in Jesus Christ is not easy. He told us people will hate you because of me. He also said I am the way the truth and the life. Those who believe in me will have eternal life. What a promise! Eternity is long time my Christian friends. As we celebrate 75 years, lets really celebrate Jesus Christ. It is all about him, not us. In Christs name, Your Council of Ministries

Elder Update

As we prepare to celebrate our 75 years, we give thanks for the many Blessings that we have received and shared with so many that been part of Pilgrim. We also go forward with the hope that Gods Love gives us. We will continue to be 'The church of The Lutheran Hour' is we continue in His Way, Truth and Life - See John 14:6. May we know and share that Life that Jesus gives through his Word and Sacraments. May we also continue to share His love through the support of our Pilgrim School and Education Center. Thanks to all who have contributed so much to our celebrations and are committed to serving at Pilgrim. May God Bless. Thanks, Lloyd Hasche and the Board of Elders.

DRAMA HUDDLE Did you know? Pilgrim’s Drama Huddle is about to start it’s 8

th season! This

past season we have been privileged to enjoy the exploits of Ron Coleman, Laura Conner, Mark Conner, Barb Dillehay, Gregg Hilgendorf, and Sharon Kazmierski in several services that included comedy and serious drama - always with a message from God’s Word. Many thanks to them for their talent and commitment. What we would like to see are the missing names that belong on that list. Your name, for instance. Anyone with an interest in “play-acting” and in having “incredible fun and fellowship” needs to add his/her name to that list. Why not give it a try? Just come to our first practice of the season – Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the narthex. No need to make a commitment at this time – just come and see how we operate. Just maybe this is the ministry for you.

MUSIC NOTES As I read my devotions today, Psalm 147 was the scripture for the day. May I quote: “Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp.” How can a child of God not respond to that invitation!? We are embarking on a new choir year here at Pilgrim. Our numbers are down at the moment, but those involved want to keep singing praises to the LORD. Can we count on your voice to help us proclaim the greatness and the love of Jesus? Please join us for our first rehearsal – Wednesday, September 5, at 6:45 in the sanctuary. Old members will be there – YOU come too! It’s not necessary to have a “great” voice or wonderful musical knowledge – just a love for Jesus and song. As always, we also need musicians to staff our worship team for 10:30 services. Come make music with us each Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Many thanks to Isaac Rasmussen for joining us on the drums. We are so happy to have him put “the punch” in our songs of praise. Please take a moment to thank him for his service.
