Who is Adolf Hitler?

• An Austrian who had been penniless, uneducated, and quite bitter and jealous of people who had gained wealth and importance in business or in government.

• Hitler was a born orator, and his fiery speeches inflamed the Germans.

• Believe the superiority of German race.

Benito Mussolini

• was born at Dovia di Predappio, Italy, on July 29, 1883.

• The Mussolini's were a poor family who lived in a crowded two-bedroom apartment. 

• Benito, although intelligent, was violent and had a large ego.

• Became the fascist leader of Italy.

Outbreak of WWII

• Sept 1, 1939: Germany invaded Poland• Sept 3, 1939: France and Great Britain Declared war

against Germany.• Germany invaded Norway and Denmark and defeated

Britain ships who wanted to defend and help Norway.• Germany able to take Netherlands, Luxembourg and

Belgium thru Blitzkrieg.• June 5, downfall of France.• Bombard the city of London.• 1 year after Germany invade France they turn to

attacked USSR.

• US were neutral on the event of War.• Japan took the colonies of France in Asia.• US feared about the action taken by Japan, ordered for

its economic Embargo.• Japan bomb Pearl Harbour• US declared war against Japan.• Germany and Italy declared war against US.• August 1945 US dropped an atomic bomb in Hiroshima

and Nagasaki, Japan then obliged to surrender.

Blitzkrieg

• Lightning war.• This is a military doctrine which means an attack with the

elements of speed and surprise so that the rival would not have time to prepare.

• Method is, bombers first blasted he enemy fortifications, cities, and communication lines, after which the troops, supported by tanks and planes, assaulted the enemy positions. Later, paratroopers and commandos were flown by planes and dropped behind enemy lines.

• Arcadia conference: held from Dec 1941- Jan 1942 where it was decided by allied power that Germany should be defeated first before Japan.

• YALTA settlement: held in Yalta, part of Crimea.– Convened to decide the fate of Germany

• Disarmament or the removal of Its weapons and ammunition.• Demilitarization or the prohibition on the organization of an army• Dismemberment or the partitioning of Germany• Germany would have to pay $20billion as payment for the damages.

– Fate of Japan was also decided.• Japan territories acquired as a result of the Russo-Japanese war

were given back to Russia.

Founding of United Nation

• Establishment is agreed in Yalta.• 50 representatives from different Nations went to San

Francisco, California, US.• Heir of League of Nation.• It has constitution• Security Council as the highest council of the

organization. Composed of 11 members, 5 of its members are US, USSR, Great Britain, France and China.

• Primary aim is the promotion of World peace.• Promotion of Democracy• Advocacy of social development and human rights• Environmental protection campaign against nuclear arms

proliferation.• In course of conflicts the UN sends its peace keeping

forces in order to establish order and implement peace.
