Security of supply –O.R. Tambo International Airport

• The risk for the 2010 World Cup lies in the SUPPLY of JetA1 not the Storage

• Supply chain may not fail. This include supply line from NATREF, supply via Rail Tank Cars and slugs in the Durban Johannesburg Pipe (DJP) line

• High dependency on the NATREF refinery, no outage can be accommodated due to high anticipated fuel volumes

• Removing Jet A1 from DJP line will increase dependency on other supply modes.

Key Messages

• The Supply of jet fuel needs to be guaranteed and is the single biggest risk for airport operations

• An industry solution needs to be found which entails close co-operation between all parties

• Anticipated fuel volumes must be shared between all industry players

• Jet fuel supply logistics planning and execution during the 2010 Soccer World Cup event will be vital
