World Aviation Security Market 2013-2023 7. Expert Opinion 7.1 Magal S3 Hagai Katz is the senior vice president for marketing and development at Magal S3. Magal S3 is a

leading international provider of cyber and physical security, safety and site management solutions

and products. Hagai Katz kindly provided answers to Visiongain’s questions in July 2013.

7.2 Magal S3’s Involvement in Aviation Security Visiongain: Could you outline how Magal S3 is involved in aviation security?

Hagai Katz: I am the senior vice president for marketing and development for Magal S3. Magal S3

has been involved in securing critical sites for more than forty years. It started as a company

delivering PIDS (Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems) and this is still the core technology area.

We have developed into delivering security solutions and turn key projects mainly focusing on

outdoors security of high profile sites, including in the area of aviation. We also provide

technologies and solutions to support the protection of aircraft within airports.

We have systems installed in more than 80 countries around the world. I would say that 20% of our

activities are geared towards the domestic market and the rest is international.

7.3 Main Technological Developments over the Next Ten Years Visiongain: What do you consider to be main technological developments that we will see

in the next years?

Hagai Katz: The basic elements of aviation security will not change over the next ten years. We

have based the protection of perimeters, which is our core business, around a specific security

strategy. This includes the demarcation the perimeter, the need to deter, the need to detect, the

need to delay and the need to defeat the intruder. Airports need to verify that only authorized

people can go in and at the right places. It’s not just an issue of security and whether you can go in

or not, but whether you are allowed to go into that area or whether you are not authorized to be in

a specific area; otherwise one can enter onto a runway and cause an accident. So in an airport

there is very tight connection between security and safety because any security breach could turn

to become a safety issue.
