Fit suspension tool -T20127- as indicated in theillwtfation and lifr slightly with the workshop crane.

Pullvacuum and bfeather fexible hoses ofthe engine.

Disconnect all other el€ctrical connections as necessaryfrom engane and l8y to on6 side.

Remove the fixing boits from tho ongine mounting -A-and -B-, lo do so, partially separdte the coolantexpansion tank.

- Remove upper notched belt guard.

Place the crankshafr in cylinder 1 top dead centr€. Thenotch on the pulley should match the edge of the mark -

Sllghtly pretension the enging and remove the bolts -A-s€curing tho €n9in6 console to the cytinder headmounting and the bolts -B- s€curing the engino consoleto the bodywork, and remove the conaole.

Removing and installing oil pump

- Turn the crankshafr or the notched belt sprocketanticlockwise for three teeth trom TDC: The thrid tooth -arrcw- to the right of the notched tooth -A- should line upwith the TDC ma* on the oil pump housing.

@ ru"r"This adjustment establishes the assembly po$ition of thec.anl/ohaft in otder to hou* the oil pump. One of thecrankshaft cam tods is up.

- Remove the principal notched belttongion roller

- Remove oilsump

- Remove €)draction hose

- Remove th€ notched belt cogwheel from the crankshan

- Remove oil pump.

- Remove gasket.

- Using a nat scrapea, remove sealant rcsidue trom thecylinder block.

- Clean contact surfaces, which should b€ fr€e of oil andgrease.

Place the adaptor -T20081B/2- over tho oil pump sealand carotully guide the pump onto the crankshaft camrods.

lfgiven, line up the interior rotor, slightly offsetting withrespect to th€ drive rod in the crankshaft.

Next, caretully ft the oil pump on the guide pins.

Fix the oil pump tightly with new bolts

Remove the adaptor -T2008182-.

Fit extraction hose

Fit the oil sump

Fit notched belt sprocket and tension roller ;Notched belt Fitting and tensioning

. The display ingtrument needle must remain in the gre€narea so that the vacuum in the cooling system isauffcient to continue with the refilling.

In the EPC, the throttl€ is not opeEt€d by a control cable ftom theaccelerator. There is no mechanical link between the acceleEtor and t|ethrottle valve.

The accelerator position i9 transmitted to the engine contlol unit by meansof two accelerator position sendsrs (variabl€ resishnces; positjoned in ahousing), connecied to the acc,elerator.

The position of thg accelerator (decided by the driver) is one of the meininput paaameteas to the ongine conlrol unit.

Operation

Depending upon the air pressuG and ambient temperatJre, fuelvapourwill form above the level of fuel in the tiank.

The active c€Ibon filter systern prevents these HC emissions escaping tothe atmosphere.

Fuel vapours pass through a gravity valve (which clos€3 at an angle ol45") located at the highest point in the tank 8nd through a vent valve into theactive carbon filter in limited quantities.

The acliv€ carbon absorbs these vapours likE a sponge.

Wren the car is being driven and the lambda control is aclive (enginewarm), the active carbon filter solenoid valv6 1 (pub€d) -N80-, (al8oknown as regeneEtion valve), is actjvated by the engine contol unitdepgnding upon load and €ngine speed. The opening period depends onthe input signals.

Intiake manifold vacuum draws fre3h airthrough th€ vent opening on th€undErside of the aclive c€rbon filt€r during ths puqing prccedure(regenerating th€ active carbon). The tuelvapour8 8torsd in thE aclivec€rbon 6nd feah ah are tEd to combustion in m€tered quantiti*.

- Connect hand held multimeter -VAG 15268- ormulhmeter -VAG 171s-to measure voltage using aux.cableg from measu ng tool set -VAG 15g4o-to contacts1 (positive) and 3 (earth) on engine speed s€nder@nnector.

- Switch on ignition.

. Specification: 4.5 V minimum.

- Switch offignition.

lf no voltage is present:

Connect tester -VAG 1598/3'l- to conhol unit cablehamess, without connecting engine control unit-

Extraot the 3-pin connector from the Hall s€nder -G40-

- Connect multimet€r to measure voltage at contacts 1(positive) and 3 (eadh) of Hall sender -G40-, using theauxaliary cables of the meagurement tool 6et -VAG1594C-.

- Switch on ignition.

. Specifcation: 4.5 V minimum.

- Switch off ignition.

lf no voltage is present:

Connect tester -VAG 1598/31- to control unit cableharness, without @nnecting engine control unit.
