Collaboration

Foundations of CollaborationToday’s organizations are looking for more - more collaboration, more shared success and knowledge! So the ability to be flexible and intuitive is critical to success. Yet there are few tools that help you build the capacity for “in the moment” high-level decision making. That’s where we can help. This workshop will focus on building your skill sets for communication including brainstorming, listening, deferring judgment, and building trust.

Meetings That WorkIn this workshop, participants will examine challenges around meetings more deeply, explore new ideas, perform experiments and test hypotheses. These eye-opening exercises help participants ditch the idea of “always doing things the same way” and learn new rules for interaction. This workshop looks closely at our meeting behaviors, aims at developing better meeting “norms” and helps to get better results in less time.

“Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.” - Amy Poehler

Business PartneringWhen engaging with both internal and external partners, we must be prepared to listen closely, empathize fully and interact authentically in order to engage with and influence our valued stakeholders. In this workshop the focus will be on building relationships, maintaining ongoing communication, fostering a judgment free environment, and projecting genuine warmth, confidence, clarity, and credibility within our partnerships.

Improv UXAll products and services have end users and in this workshop we apply the skills of improvisation to the world of user experience. This workshop positively affects the Relational, Working and Exploratory connections between Creators, Clients, Teams and most importantly the Users our products are serving. We will use improv exercises to help show how listening, acceptance and a lack of judgement can create a more empathetic, collaborative, creative, agile, and innovative user experience culture.

Consensus BuildingWhat happens when a team is divided on an issue and consensus seems impossible? In this workshop we approach the concepts of consensus, unanimity, mediation, dispute systems, and dealing with value differences. We will cover strategies for aligning with vision, mission and values while diminishing personal agenda and individual ego.

Virtual Meetings That WorkAs organizations embrace the strengths of working remotely, new challenges arise when attempting to gain the same levels of trust when teammates are not in the same office day to day. In this workshop participants will learn to strengthen communication skills within virtual teams, foster empathy and trust, decrease the silo effect, align thinking styles and manage unifying virtual tools to be more effective during virtual collaboration.

Leadership

The Delegating LeaderIn this workshop attendees will learn how to acknowledge the inherent risks of delegating and how to delegate strategically. They will then dive into exercises that practice the idea of “letting go” and trusting your delegate. Discussions will cover strategies to put ego in check, and how to focus on the right activities, and watch for best candidates. Utilizing improv exercises attendees will discover strategies to improve the delegation by leaders within IHG.

Listening To Be ChangedIn this workshop we acknowledge the inherent risks of listening, how to listen strategically and how to increase our listening bandwidth. We will discuss strategies to put ego in check, focus on comprehension and listen for danger. Utilizing improv exercises we will cover strategies to improve the listening of leaders in our organization.

Facilitation for LeadershipIn an environment of rapid change, no single person can see all that is going on and what needs to be done. The use of command and control style leadership is no longer effective in all situations and our ability to pivot to facilitative leadership is crucial. In this workshop we focus on the ability to facilitate conversations, focus meetings, while helping teammates find their own view and articulate it. We will gain skills to prepare for sessions with purpose and product in mind while getting the best answers by asking the best questions.

Leading TeamsWhen leading teams, most opportunities for communication hold the potential to bolster morale, strengthen team bonds and improve efficiency. When handled poorly these same conversations can lead to an increase in workplace stress, a disconnectedness amongst teammates, and a loss of productivity. In this workshop, techniques for giving and receiving feedback while being aware of the warning signs for highly emotional and difficult conversations will be examined. These techniques combined together will help team leaders properly handle conflict resolution and bring stability to challenging encounters.

Leading Without The Title“I want to lead, but I’m not a manager” is a statement said often by emerging leaders. The need to focus on leadership skills prior to being placed in management is one being embraced in many corporate cultures. If non-managers want to grow and develop as a leader, the time to develop those skills is now. In this workshop, participants will learn to recognize their current leadership opportunities and gain strategies for developing leadership skills without the title; from professional self development, to mentoring, to building community, leading focused projects and taking on more delegated responsibility.

More on… Leadership

Executive PresenceAs we navigate career trajectory, we often find ourselves stepping into a role of leadership for which we do not feel prepared. So how does one approach the role of an executive confidently? The secret is having great executive presence. Executive presence is how we combine our own knowledge with genuine warmth in order to project self-confidence, clarity, and credibility. Participants in this workshop will learn how the skills of communicating with substance, strong physical presence, clear communication, and listening are key in developing their own executive presence.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence Today’s leaders need the ability to navigate through unexpected challenges, foster innovation, and build organizations where people thrive. Research shows emotional intelligence improves leadership effectiveness, employee retention, organizational culture, and your bottom line. This workshop focuses on self-awareness, social awareness and how to use that awareness to build better relationships and teams.

EQ Leadership StylesWhether they know it or not, effective leaders act according to one or more of six distinct approaches to leadership. In this workshop we will discover the strongest EQ leadership styles; visionary, coaching, affiliative and democratic which create the kind of resonance that boosts performance. Included in this workshop are leadership styles that, when used too often, can decrease resonance, motivation, and workplace positivity.

“If you are tuned out of your own emotions, you will be poor at reading them in other people.” - Daniel Goleman

Building upon the qualities of self-awareness and social awareness, participants will learn how to use that awareness to build better relationships and teams. A deeper dive into strategies and exercises focusing on developing and flexing our personal EQ to be a more effective teammate and leader will be included.

Humor in the WorkplaceHumor is stress relieving, tension breaking, humanizing and puts others at ease. It promotes authenticity, boosts morale and increases productivity. Humor creates an upbeat atmosphere that encourages interaction, brainstorming of new ideas, and a feeling that there are few risks in thinking outside the box. This workshop focuses on applying improvisation to the workplace to boost the level of humor and identify strategies for utilizing humor in the workplace.

Storytelling

Storytelling For SuccessPitches, presentations, proposals – they’re all part of our daily business life. But how do you deliver the important details and get the response you want in a quick and engaging way? The secret is storytelling. Find out how improvisation and storytelling skills can help you craft a tale that will make people take action. You’ll also learn how to listen and respond to your audience without throwing your story and intent off track.

Fearless Public SpeakingEven the clearest and best planned presentations can fall prey to our own nerves and stage fright. In this workshop we will practice how to overcome nervousness, craft a compelling story and deliver it with lasting impact. Ways to handle Q&A and meet your audience's needs while being aware of your own non-verbals and get a read on your audience will be crucial skills covered as well.

“Stories constitute the single most powerful weapon in a leader’s arsenal.” - Dr. Howard Gardner, Prof. Harvard Univ.

Escaping the SlideIn many organizations slide decks and presentations have become a vehicle to capture and share large amounts of detailed information, metrics and matrices. The difficulty occurs when taking this same deck to a presentation in front of a live audience. In this workshop we cover how to use slides to evoke emotion and visualization, increase connectivity during talks, improve teammate understanding and recall. We will focus on strategic replacement of words with vivid images and the overall reduction of slide complexity and number.

18 Minutes MaxMany of our pitches, meetings, and presentations happen informally in hallways, break rooms, or over lunch. When an opportunity to share knowledge presents itself, our ability to communicate in short periods of time is essential. But how do we tell stories that resonate and communicate in such a short amount of time? Attend this workshop to learn how to refine presentations and pitches without sacrificing meaning or impact. You’ll also learn techniques used in shorter presentation styles such as, TED talks, 10X10 style, PechaKucha (20x20) and Ignite (20x15).

by people. In fact it’s the

other way around …”

Diversity and Inclusion

Empathy and DiversityIt is often easier to empathize with those who are similar to ourselves than those with other backgrounds, ethnicities, education levels, personality types and generations. Using Stanislavski's “Magic If” participants will identify the positive and negative emotions you share with those different from yourself and work through exercises for empathizing with teammates from other backgrounds. Improv exercises to foster empathy and open up dialogue to discover similarities, differences and misconceptions between teammates will be the focus.

Women in BusinessIn business, women who are aggressive, assertive, and confident but who can turn these traits on and off, depending on circumstances, get more promotions than either men or other women, according to a study from Stanford GSB. In order to be successful women must simultaneously present themselves as self-confident and dominant while balancing displays of feminine characteristics. An ability to be flexible in how they behave can lead to extraordinary results. In this workshop, learn strategies to balance these behaviors in order to succeed.

Gender DifferencesMany of our projects suffer from faulty assumptions when communicating tasks and responsibilities. Gender Differences delves into navigating conversations with the opposite gender, better understanding your own gender-based behaviors and identifies strategies to overcome gender bias in our assignments, communications and responsibilities.

Embracing Change

Embracing ChangeContinual change is the norm in today’s uncertain economy, and leaders, managers, and supervisors must implement the changes that their companies mandate. In this workshop, participants will learn tools to help in accepting uncertainty in a more positive mindset, and how to take consistent, incremental steps forward during times of change.

Increasing ResiliencyResiliency is the the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties and toughness. As we examine our own lives and work, do we have the resilience we need to overcome our challenges? Or do we let our failures derail our dreams? In this workshop, questions about resilience will be reviewed: what it is, why we need it, and how to develop it; so that we have the strength and fortitude to overcome adversity, change, and keep moving forward towards our goals.

“I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.” - Georg C. Lichtenberg

Communication

High Stakes ConversationsHigh Stakes Conversations happen when misalignment and strong emotions threaten productive communication. At all levels of our organization we must be prepared to create an environment of open dialogue that fosters unity and commitment. In this workshop, improvisational exercises will be combined with the knowledge shared in the books “Difficult Conversations”, “Crucial Conversations”, “Fierce Conversations” and “Thanks for the Feedback.”

Soliciting and Leveraging FeedbackAll of us want to be our best selves at work, but for many of us, soliciting feedback from peers, teammates, and leaders outside of a yearly review can be a stressful. How to get them to be honest and constructive? What if I don’t agree with their suggestions? What if the discussions are tense, judgmental, or uncomfortable? In this workshop, participants will learn strategies to help make soliciting and leveraging feedback, less stressful, more effective, resulting in more productive practices within your team.

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” - George Bernard Shaw

Better One On OnesRegular one-on-one meetings can seem redundant, especially if all of your projects are on track and you’re not sure you really have anything to check in on. But one-on-one meetings are much more than just a check in about daily work and can be an opportunity to discuss successes, growth, professional development, and more. In this workshop, participants will learn how to create one-on-one’s that exist to help leaders figure out how you can make good employees happy and keep them around and how to keep managers happy with your performance and having you on their team.

Effective CommunicationToday’s rapidly changing economy and environment require us to be creative, flexible and intuitive in order to achieve success. But how do you develop the skill of being creative in the moment? That’s where improvisation training comes in! This workshop is designed to help you tap into your “in the moment” leadership and communication abilities. Through a combination of lecture, demonstration and on-your- feet exercises, you’ll learn how improv skills apply directly to your business and you’ll discover new ways to lead, listen, and collaborate.
