Volunteer WorkBrazil
• 10 years in the community, 5 years in this placement• Available placements:
• Caring for infants, children, teens, and adults• Type of volunteer needed
• Longer term volunteer (2+ weeks); a self-starter with a relaxed approach to organization & activity planning; knowledge of Portuguese not required but helps tremendously
• Alumni Experience: Bill Koester (2012, 4 weeks)
Cartago, Costa Rica• 10 years in Costa Rica, 8 years in Cartago & these placements• Available placements:
• Caregiving and health assistance, at times assisting in physical therapy.
• Type of volunteer needed: • Longer term volunteer (2+ weeks); follows instruction well; can work
well with other volunteers and are comfortable with shy people; knowledge of Spanish is preferred
Volunteer WorkGhana
• 14 years in the community, 6 years in these placements• Available placements:
• Health assistance in local clinics• Type of volunteer needed:
• Should be interested in general health, specifically caring for those affected by HIV/AIDS; no medical background required; needs to have sensitivity to local beliefs and customs related to HIV/AIDS; knowledge of the local languages are not required
• Alumni Experience: Bradley Ayers (2011, 2 weeks)
Tanzania• 9 years in these placements in Kilimanjaro and Bagamoyo, Tanzania• Available placements:
• Daycare centers and community-based organizations • Type of volunteer needed:
• Longer term volunteer (2+ weeks) preferred; a self-starter and has a relaxed approach to organization and activity planning; knowledge of the local languages are not required
Volunteer WorkSouth Africa
• 5 years in the community and placements• Available placements:
• Daycare centers and community-based organizations and can sometimes include healthcare assistance
• Type of volunteer needed: • Longer term volunteer (3+ weeks); can follow
instructions well and enjoys project based initiatives; is interested in community development, and enjoys working with children.
• Alumni Experience: David Gentry (2011, 3weeks)
