AboutMichael FALLON
Michael has been MP for Sevenoaks and Swanley since 1997. He and his family live in Sundridge, in the heart of the constituency.
Michael, who has had a career in business as well as politics, is fully involved in the local community. He has been a school governor, a Patron of the Rockdale House Appeal and President of Dorton House for the Blind. He is a Patron of Darenth Valley Youth Music, a Vice-President of Sevenoaks Rugby Club and President of the Friends of St Mary’s, Sundridge.
In Parliament Michael has taken a close interest in family issues, voting against gay marriage and supporting parental responsibility. He works closely with local churches when moral matters come before Parliament.
Michael served as Minister for Business and Minister for Energy before being appointed Secretary of State for Defence in July 2014. He is the first Sevenoaks MP for over 80 years to serve in the Cabinet.

Since I was first elected as your Member of Parliament, I’ve worked hard for Sevenoaks and Swanley, and each year I’ve helped thousands of constituents.
Throughout the last Parliament my priorities have been to see unemployment reduced, small businesses grow and the Green Belt protected. I’ve campaigned tirelessly for the grammar school annex that we need in Sevenoaks, for a better deal for rail commuters, and for traffic and broadband improvements in our villages.
This is a great part of Kent to live in and bring up a family. I want to work with you and the rest of the community to keep it that way.
Helping my ConstituentsI hold regular surgeries each month in Sevenoaks and Swanley.
Over the last 18 years I’ve helped thousands of constituents with individual problems, ranging from school appeals to NHS appointments, from child support to visa issues, from benefits to government tenders.
Constituents can book an appointment, write, email or phone for my assistance. My Westminster office is open every weekday from 9am to 6pm.
In 2013 and again in 2014 I’ve organised and hosted Job Fairs in Swanley. Attended by hundreds of young people, each Fair has helped them see the range of careers available locally and provided specialist advice on cv writing and interviews.
WORKING TOGETHERTO GET RESULTS
Unemployment has halved since 2010. I will continue to hold my annual jobs fair to help our young people get into work or training.
A better deal for rail passengersPegging fares to inflation is only a start. We need proper compensation for London Bridge commuters, and the Oyster card extended to Sevenoaks.
Lower Business Rates We’ve helped with lower business rates and cutting red tape, but I want to go further and make it much easier to start and grow a small business.
Stronger protection for the Green BeltTravellers shouldn’t have the right to develop on green belt land when they haven’t travelled for years. The planning system should treat everyone the same.
Faster broadband for the rural pockets in our area which are proving hard to reach.
Getting that Grammar School! We have waited long enough: too many children have to travel out to Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. I want the law changed to allow us to build on the Wilderness site in Sevenoaks.
