The aim of this unit is to enable you to monitor, review, maintain and improve working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. You will learn how to provide information to colleagues and stakeholders, how to consult with these groups and how to inform decision making. You will also gain an understanding of conflicts of interest and how to identify the opportunities to improve working relationships.

1. Working environment There is no requirement for you to be observed/assessed in a work environment.

2. Teaching practice There is no requirement for you to undertake teaching practice.

3. Achieving assessment criteria There must be valid, authentic and sufficient evidence for all assessment criteria. Holistic assessment is encouraged and one piece of evidence may be used to meet the requirements of more than one assessment criterion.

4. Knowledge outcomes There must be evidence that you possess all the knowledge and understanding listed in the ‘Knowledge’ section of this unit. This evidence may include projects, assignments, case studies, reflective accounts, oral/written questioning and/or other forms of evidence.

This section provides guidance on the recommended knowledge and skills required to enable you to achieve each of the learning outcomes in this unit. Your tutor/assessor will ensure you have the opportunity to cover all of the unit content.

Outcome 1: Be able to provide colleagues and stakeholders with information

Information to be communicated to selected colleagues and stakeholders: Identify stakeholders (internal and external e.g. employees, colleagues, provider of finance, consumers, community and the environment, government, other organisations or groups), different perspectives of stakeholders based on roles, responsibilities, interests and concerns, identification of information requirements for each stakeholders group, written, verbal and non-verbal communication, inclusive language, selection of appropriate media to relay information to relevant audience (e.g. team meetings, notice boards, news sheets, publication, individual reviews).

Adapt and present appropriate information in ways that promote understanding to colleagues or stakeholders: Appropriate means of communication (e.g. formal/informal, verbal, face to face, telephone, video conferencing, memos, e-mail, meetings, notice boards, letters, appraisal, newsletters, rumours (staged/ naturally occurring)). Identification of most appropriate method’s for specific stakeholder group, written, verbal and non- verbal communication, inclusive language, visual representation of statistical information (e.g. pie charts, bar charts etc).

Outcome 2: Be able to consult with colleagues and stakeholders in relation to decisions or activities

Communicate with colleagues and stakeholders regarding decisions and/or activities: Appropriate means of communication (e.g. formal/informal, verbal, face to face, telephone, video conferencing, memos, e-mail, meetings, notice boards, letters, appraisal, newsletters, staged/naturally occurring), identification of the most appropriate method(s) for specific stakeholder group, written, verbal and non-verbal communication, inclusive language, identification of particular information required by each stakeholder group.

Analyse feedback on working relationships from colleagues and stakeholders: Use feedback from a range of suitable sources (e.g. employees, colleagues, and stakeholders), action planning, strengths and limitations of range of activities (e.g. communication flow, decision making, achievement of targets/ objectives, group process skills, group activities).

Evaluate working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders in terms of continued use and effectiveness: Evaluation theory (e.g. Kirkpatrick), use of feedback from a range of suitable sources in micro/macro environment, comparison/contrast between different areas where relationships working well/relationships not delivering expected targets.
