+How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

QUESTION TWO

+I wanted my album cover to be easily linked to my website and video, to create a clear image of what the artists represents, her values and her style. Therefore I decided to use pictures from the album shoot on the website. I also promoted the album on the website to make this relationship even more dominant. I made sure to have elements of the colour red in my digipak and website to conjoin the two pieces together. Furthermore an outfit used in my music video is replicated in the ancillary pieces, which allows my TA to gain a clear balanced portrayal of my artist. My artist upholds the traditional romantic elements of R&B however still aims to be dominant and shows the negatives of a relationship in which a woman is neglected by her partner. In music and the media this isn't usually highlighted especially by a young artist in which her young fans would be able to connect and possibly recognise these negative signs in their own relationships. My artist values redefine R&B and doesn’t romanticse these relationships but instead emphasizes the blunt reality of them.

Due to the fact my album name merged from the debut single I made sure the digiak cover would link with the music video of the same name. The music video links with my ancillary pieces due to the mise en scene which creates a synergy between the three productions. Furthermore, the artists style and persona is represented in the music video which is also replicated in the ancillary task. The album is called ‘The Worst’ which implies heartbreak. My artist shows her vulnerable side in the video, as it shows the artist going back to her boyfriend although he repeatedly betrays her. This therefore reflects the mood and tone of the ancillary tasks, as they are mellow and neutral in the moods. However the back cover, enforces the fact that the artist does have power and confidence in other songs and overall her persona isn't vulnerable. This also insinuates that the album wont purely be about heartbreak and the traditional concept of R&B. This is seen on the website in which there’s an image of the artist wearing bold clothes with a more stern NVC which connotes a strong character, which shows another side of the artist. I also promoted the album and music video on the website to make this relationship even more dominant. Furthermore, the digipak is minimalistic style, which I replicated to my website. I used a basic template of neutral colours which adheres and conforms to R&B conventions as R&B isn't an outlandish genre like Pop, Rock for example. It is more subtle and focuses on the music rather than creating a persona for the artist. However due to the fact my artist sometimes subverts these conventions and isn't solely a conventional R&B artist I used bold colours when the user ‘mouse-overs’ the different sections and other pictures to portray the artists ‘lifestyle’.

The use of bold bright colours when the user mouses over. The overall website still adheres to the minimal conventions of R&B but these small explosions of colour , indicates that the artist isn't as conventional and has elements of pop/hip hop in the image she aims to create.

The music video on the website links the two productions.
