Schools are safe and open for full time face-to-face learning
All schools are returning to full on-campus learning from Monday 25 May. All school activities

School students do not need to follow physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good
hygiene practices like:

• Avoiding sharing drinks or food
• Coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately.

As of Monday 25 May we look forward to welcom-
ing all of our students back into school for face-to-
face classes five days a week. There are clear
guidelines to the return, including safety measures.
Details are in this newsletter and on our WHS
website. Please take special note of the require-
ments with regards to attendance and leave as
well as students bringing their own water bottles
and stationery.
This means that our school will no longer continue
with off-site delivery (remote learning), so that all
students will progress with their NESA approved
curriculum at school.
Coming back from isolation to school five days a
week is an exciting development. I would like to
give a big thank you to Dianne Della, the school
canteen crew and the WHS P&C for working with
the school through these changes. The P&C has
not been able to meet in person recently yet Di
and the P&C are doing a great job of keeping the
communication and services functioning smoothly.
We are all looking forward to having a fully func-
tioning canteen with the whole student body to
cater to – just one of the great services which we
will never take for granted and have sorely missed.
Our Academic Achievement Centre is back in
action this Thursday from 3:15pm in the school
library. We encourage and welcome all of our
students to come along. Our staff have missed you
and would love to see lots of smiling faces. On
another note, check the article in this newsletter
about Numberland and plan your entry to the
Numberland competition.
From the Principal’s Desk
I would like to thank the school community for
supporting Woolgoolga High School during
these challenging times.
I particularly want to take this opportunity to
acknowledge the outstanding work and
professionalism of all the Woolgoolga High
School staff. Our teaching and support staff
have gone above and beyond through these
dynamic times, making sure that we deliver
high quality education through the best possi-
ble platforms. Our staff have continued to be
flexible and responsive as the needs and
delivery changes. I would like to make a
special note of gratitude and acknowledge-
ment of the tireless work of our school
support and cleaning staff. Your efforts are
very obvious and highly valued.
I again wish to thank parents and carers for
their ongoing support. We all look forward to
a return to learning at our school and keeping
all of our community as safe and healthy as
possible.
Take care and keep in touch with Woolgool-
ga High School.

Students who have a medical certificate to stay at home will be supported to learn from home in line with regular procedures if they are able to. These regular procedures are different to what was offered during the learning from home period. If you require work to be provided to your child whilst they are at home due to an underlying health condition, you should contact the school for assistance.
Please note, students who live with a family member in one of the categories identified as being at increased risk by the AHPPC, should attend school unless a medical practitioner advises otherwise in writing.
If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date.
If a student is absent without a medical reason for more than three days, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school.
If you need any support to get your child back to school, please contact your school.
Reporting and assessment
Your child has been assessed during the learning from home period and will receive additional assessment on their return to school.
You will receive your child’s semester 1 report before the end of August (week 6, Term 3).
This may be a simplified version of the report you normally receive. Schools are encouraged to discuss your child’s progress with you before the written report is issued.
School activities
Teachers will continue to follow the same school curriculum with the exception of some activities that can’t go ahead for now.
What children can do:
• Use the school library
• Engage in non-contact sporting activities
• Year 11 and 12 students may attend classes/activities relating to subjects available on other campuses
• VET work placement for Year 12 students is able to proceed from 1 June 2020. Year 10 and 11 work-placement is able to proceed from Term 3 2020.
• School based apprenticeships and traineeships can recommence once the relevant workplaces are back in operation
• Trade Training Centres can operate on school sites.
What students can’t do:
• School assemblies (unless for critical information)
• School incursions and excursions including camps
• Work experience
• Inter-school activities (debating, inter-school sport)
• In-school activities requiring parent or other volunteers
• Use hydrotherapy pools
• Drink from a water bubbler – bring a water bottle instead
• Students cannot attend TAFE for study but may continue to learn online.

School cleaning and hygiene supplies
Your school will receive additional cleaning in line with the AHPPC guidelines and advice from NSW Health. Tar-geted areas include high-touch areas and other hard surfaces, door handles, lockers, light switches and handrails in stairways and movement areas. There will also be additional cleaning of toilets and bubblers and topping up of supplies like soap.
Your school has received supplies of soap, hand sanitiser, toilet paper, paper towels, disinfectant wipes and personal protective equipment. The school is able to order more as needed.
School grounds
There should be no visitors to school sites unless they are essential. Your school can provide guidance as to who is considered essential.
Your school will provide advice on drop off and pick up procedures.
Wherever possible, P&C and parent/carer/teacher meetings should be conducted virtually.
Canteens and uniform shops can open at the discretion of the principal. Out of school hours care can continue to operate.
Community use of school facilities will recommence only for uses that are necessary for continuation of education and with principal’s approval.
Responding to COVID-19 cases
There is a clear plan in place for schools to respond to any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our schools. We are working closely with NSW Health and will communicate with parents if a situation was to arise.

As some of you may have noticed the Maths storeroom is undergoing a transformation.
Gone are the old dusty books and resources, and hello to the new maths study space, Number-
land!
Our plan is to create a space for students to come and work on their Mathematics in an environ-
ment that will be both productive and inspirational to learning.
We have been lucky enough to receive a very generous donation from the local company
Infracraft Detailed Joinery. They have gifted us with 10 massive whiteboards! The renovations
have now started with the whiteboards being secured to the walls. We will be posting photos and
having a grand opening soon. So, watch this space!!
But in the meantime, we are going to run a competition for all students to participate in. It is to
design the logo that goes on the door to our new study space. You need to include:
• The name of the room which is Numberland
• The size should be at least A4
• The winning design will be displayed on the door to the room so the more eye catching it is
the better.
Submit your designs to Mrs Rosenberg in the Maths Staffroom by the end of the term.

As part of online PDHPE learning, Years 9 and 10 students are completing a unit to support their
own and other's mental wellbeing. A part of this unit has included creating a poster to advertise
awareness and support for each other. Here are a few of our students’ creations.

National Careers Week 18-24 May 2020
National Careers Week aimed to celebrate careers and career development, promoting the eco-
nomic, social and personal benefits of career development. Everyday decisions and priorities affect
career development. Career development is about much more than jobs – it is about how to live
your life. Woolgoolga High School’s Careers Education aims to develop students’ knowledge and
skills in Careers to successfully support their transition from school to further study and/or employ-
ment. I encourage our students to research career and study options for the future. To do this see
our school’s Careers website https://woolgoolgahighcareers.com/ and research the many “Post
School Options” including university, TAFE, jobs, Apprenticeships/Traineeships and Defence Force
Careers.

Educational Pathways Policy Pilot (EPPP)
As you are aware, Woolgoolga HS is part of the Educational Pathways Policy Pilot (EPPP) which
involves five school clusters across the state. The pilot program is aimed at ensuring our young
people are independent and leave school well prepared for higher education, training or work.
While our students are still in school, we want to strengthen the pathways between school, train-
ing and employment.
The pilot has 10 streams that focus on enhanced careers advice; increasing the number of School
-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATS); and supporting disadvantaged and disen-
gaged young students.
On Monday 25 May some Year 10 students will undertake the
first of a series of workshops called EDGE which targets em-
ployability skills: communication, teamwork, self-management,
learning, initiative & enterprise, planning & organising.
EDGE stands for Education, Deportment, Grooming &
Employability skills. EDGE workshops were created to
address the gap between student perceptions and employer
expectations. Employers often cite poor presentation, attitude,
hygiene and communication skills as barriers to employment
for young job
applicants.
The one-hour EDGE webinar undertaken on Monday is interactive and touches on:
• What employers want
• Vocational Education & Training Pathways
• Tips about personal branding, how social media can impact careers, personal presentation
and communication.
• Advice from hair, skin and clothing professionals.
The webinar introduces students to the ideas that will be covered in the full day EDGE workshop,
to be delivered in person at Woolgoolga HS later in the year.
