2018 Seniors Festival LaunchOnce again another good opportunity for us to increase public awareness of our club. Fortunately the sun shone, the small crowds of wandering seniors, politicians and councillors chatted and then passed us by. We had a number of enquiries and once again the flyer numbers were reduced, with even the potential offer of a bandsaw donation to the club. We will wait and see.
It was unfortunate that despite our setting up demonstrations of both pocket hole joinery and using a Japanese saw to cut some timber no one participated. Thank you to the Daniel, Phil T, Ian, Judy and Phil K for their efforts on the day.
We welcome Melanie Conway to our club and she has shown great enthusiasm a willingness to learn and make sawdust.
All members are encouraged to buy a club T-shirt for both Saturday workshops and our public events. Please see Ian(Treasurer) on how to get your shirt (or sloppy joe for the cooler months). This will save your clothes a little bit of wear and tear.Ian attended the Girl Guides AGM and presented Bronwyn Duffy with a gift from the club, a pen in a case and a bandsaw box in appreciation for all her help and cooperation with the club during her time as manager.Future VisitsApril 19th Penrith Print MuseumWe have a visit to the Penrith Print Museum ($5 each) on Thursday April 19th @ 11:30 am, then lunch at the Penrith Paceway. Future WorkshopsApril 14Phil K led a discussion about talking about drawers their design, construction and some other how to's. We also discussed drawer slides and glides and how and when to choose them. This culminated in Ray providing a precut drawer which we assembled and now use in the storeroom. Thanks Ray for this. Daniel, Ray and Phil K struggled with replacing the said tyres on the big bandsaw and learnt lessons in how much rubber does/does not stretch over a steel wheel.
April 28 This will be for tray table preparation and construction for a nursing home.
Safety.
Daniel has requested that the inclusion of a news from the article that reminds us that Safety is our responsibility no matter where we are working.
Saturday Workshop Penrith Press Aug 31, 2017 March 10Phil K provided a demonstration/discussion of pocket hole joinery and using both the club jig and others. March 24This was a very noisy, dusty and highly productive workshop with the first run of new Samaritan's Purse toys being designed, built and modified before mass production took place. It was an excellent collaboration between all club members in all stages of this process. The results are shown below- a streamlined truck and a large number of wheels. A little mishap produced a bandsaw tyre disaster and the blade is shown here.
