The British middle class women were at home taking care of the household and the family.

Early studies of women in the Victorian era in Britain show that women were described as perfect ladies ,well- behaved and with good morals.

The main female character in Oliver Twist are Agnes, Nancy ,roes.

Agnes Oliver Twist born in workhouse in 1830

England. Nobody knows his mother Agnes or even her name. and she dies shortly after giving birth to Oliver twist.

Agnes is described as the fallen woman. Agnes is described as “weak and erring”

because because of her pregnancy as an unmarried women. Agnes is not described as Oliver's mother until the end of the book.

She is also clearly aware that she does not live up to the standards of being a good and moral woman.

Society did not treat women and men equally.

She chooses to die anonymously in workhouse rather than stain her family’s reputation.

the novel only expresses the disapproval of the sinful relationship Agnes had with Oliver's father.

Nancy The second female character is Nancy. She is Fagin's mistress and works as a

prostitute. Nancy becomes good person when she

protects and save Oliver as novel develops. She has warm heart.

Nancy is dissenting women that fails outside the patriarchal borders and her character subverts domestic ideologies.

She protect Oliver from Fagin's gang. Nancy is stronger because she does not need

a man to complete a dangerous mission.

Rose Roes is also an orphan just like Oliver. She was

adopted by Mrs.Maylie when she was young girl. Roes is described as an innocent and perfect girl.

Roes has an identity and belongs to a family it also indicates the power. Power to make important

decision in life .

She is women that knows what she is worth and that makes her powerful.

She is also a women who spreads happiness and goodness with her angelic character.

Minor Women Character Mrs.Maylie : A kind , wealthy older women,

the mother of harry Maylie and adoptive aunt of roes.

Mrs. Corney : Mrs. Corney , later Mrs. Bumble ,she is matron of the workhouse where Oliver is born. After she marries Mr. Bumble, she hounds him mercilessly.

Mrs.Bedwin: she is housekeeper of Mr. Brownlow She is a kind and motherly old lady who takes care of Oliver in his illness.

Mrs. Mann: she runs the orphanage where Oliver grows up. She keeps herself most of money allotted by the parish for the care of orphans. And neglects them rather steadily.
