Principal’s Report
A Safety and Wellbeing Reminder We take our children’s safety and wellbeing very seriously. No parent or carer is to ever come on the school site and approach, with intent to discipline or talk about, other people’s children. No parent or carer is to ever take another person’s child off-site, or take them home, without the permission of the actual parents or carers, who must have communicated that permission with us first. Please, it is important that this weekend (and regularly thereafter) you spend time reminding your child:
who is allowed to take them home
how to say no when a stranger (someone who does not have their parents’ or carers’ permission) offers to take them home
that they never leave the school site once they are at school, with the exception of being with an adult who has both permission to be with them and has followed the school’s attendance procedures and has a ‘white slip’ from the Front Office.

NAPLAN Online starts next week for Years 3 and 5 (and Years 7 and 9 if you also have children at High School). NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning through the school curriculum. We have worked with our students to make sure that they are familiar with the test formats and will provide appropriate support and guidance on the days of the tests. Please remember though that excessive preparation is not useful and can lead to unnecessary anxiety. NAPLAN tests are constructed to give students an opportunity to demonstrate skills they have learned over time through the school curriculum, and NAPLAN test days should be treated as just another routine event on the school calendar. The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to:
Reassure them that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program.
Urge them to simply make a Five Star Effort.
Ask them to challenge themselves to work outside their own comfort zone on the day.
Remind them to be Self Aware and use their Learner Tools, especially Persisting Percy and Connie Connect.

ANZAC DAY
Thank you to the students and families who attended the Alstonville ANZAC Day March in the holidays.
The sea of green and gold was highly noticeable on the day, as was the outstanding behaviour of our
students. We were so proud of all of the Wollongbar Public School students who attended and the way
they proudly marched and respectfully sat through the service.

Kindergarten to Year 2 students will be attending a special online story reading of The National Simultaneous
Storytime book ‘Hickory Dickory Dash’ by Tony Wilson. This is an annual nation-wide event held on Wednesday the
23rd May.
Kindergarten to Year 2 students are asked to bring a Teddy along on this day for a Teddy Bear’s Picnic lunch at
10.30am. Please make sure all teddies have your child’s name clearly labelled. These will only be joining students
for the first part of the day and then will remain at the classroom until home time. Students will eat together with
their teddies and peers before the story time at 11am.
Parents of Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two students are welcome to attend the Teddy Bear’s Picnic lunch and
story time reading from 10.30am – 11.30am.

Mother’s Day stall The P&C would like to wish all Mums, Carers, Aunties and Grandmothers
a very Happy Mother’s Day!
Children will have the opportunity to purchase a gift from our Mother’s
Day stall after lunch on Friday 11th May. Send them to school with some
pocket money on Friday so the lucky ladies in the family don’t miss out.
But what about the Stage 3 kids who are still at camp?
Don’t worry, we’ll have the stall set up to purchase items at 4:30 when
they get off the bus. You might need to bring them some cash so they can
buy something when you pick them up!
Disco! Thursday 31st May Our first disco of the year will be on Thursday 31st May, 5:30-7:30 pm.
For those new to Wollongbar, we hold two discos a year. Our amazing teachers
volunteer, while the children have a blast.
Entry is $2 per child. Wollongbar students only.
Parents are welcome to join us in the library at the same time as the disco.
Parents Meet & Greet Thursday 31st May Do you find it is too busy to catch up with other parents during the chaos of pick-
up and drop-off? Are you new to the school community and would you like to
meet other parents/carers? Do you not get a chance to see other parents
because your kids take the bus?
Take advantage of the 2 hour (school-aged) kid free time during the Disco and
join us in the Schools’ Library for a meet & greet.
Come grab a cuppa while the kids are at the disco. Drop in for coffee/tea, biscuits and good conversation.
Are the branches on your lemon tree sighing from supporting too much fruit? Have you exhausted your
pinterest lemon recipes? Don’t toss those beautiful tangy citrus in the compost, bring them to school!
Donated lemons will be made into lemonade for the P&C Lemonade Stall at next year’s fete. Lemonade
syrup will also be for sale at ESP Alstonville throughout the year when available.
Please bring any lemons that you can spare to the office.
We love our volunteers
The P&C would like to thank all our volunteers for their
generous donation of time and skills.
Do you know someone who helps and deserves recognition?
Please put their name in the “Thank You” box in the office.
Moreover, remember to put your own name in the box each
time you volunteer!
Once a month all names go into the draw to win a Coffee
Voucher from ESP Alstonville.
P&C Calendar Feel free to join us, the first Wednesday of every month, for our P&C meetings.

The Child Oral Health Service would like to remind parents and carers of the
importance of regular, supervised oral hygiene.
When children start school they are often keen to be as independent as possible.
Most children don’t have the skills to brush their own teeth well enough to prevent
decay until age 8-10, depending on their level of dexterity.
Thorough brushing twice per day prevents significantly more dental decay than
brushing once per day or less often.
Help your child gently brush their teeth and gums twice per day with a small
amount of fluoride toothpaste.
