China economy’s huge growth! By William Kurlander

China, only one small country, is outracing the world in economics. China’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rate has expanded and is growing rapidly, much faster that the rest of the world. America has always been a strong and steady first place economy in world rank-ings ( since 1871), now China is threatening to take that rank over. To defeat it’s competition, China is using another method known as Purchasing Power Parity(PPP), and is predicted to surpass the U.S. in the race of economics in just a few years. China is using this to measure the purchasing power with the U.S.’s. PPP is when you compare your country’s currency to another country's cur-rency. An equation to show that is S= P1 over P2 ( S is the rate of exchange from each country) so when you do this, you can see the fraction and compare one curren-cy to another. One example is 1 chinese yuan- renminbi (chinese currency) is equal to 19.16 Japa-nese Yens ( 1 yen is 0.052 yu-ans). Also, 1 yuan is equal to 2.47 mexican pesos, ( 1 mexican peso is 0.40 Chinese Yu-ans).Their economy and value of currency is growing fast! Think of how big it will grow. China also has individuals that help it’s economy’s boomiChina, only one small country, is outrac-ing the world in economics.

China has people like Wang Jianlin, he is one of the richest billionaires, intellectu-al, shrewd, he is a descendant of China’s political elites and communist party revolutionary, and a business empire. He has followed his family tradition of being successful with China’s largest real estate company called the Dalian Wanda Group. China also hosts Jack Ma, the successful chairman of Alibaba (China’s google). These wealthy business men have helped the empire of China with their intricate ideas, but in China growth is not just in their hands. There are as many as 430 bil-lionaires in China, and Hong Kong is one of the ten richest cit-ies all around ( in China not capital or largest city). China’s growth and takeover will give them bragging rights over the U.S.

Summer Vacation is Here!!

By: Viyang Hao

Summer break is almost here! Everybody is excited for summer break. All 5th graders will be leaving West Clay Elementary and be going to Creekside. Both me and Hannah hope you had a great year at West Clay. On May 6th it will the last meeting for newspaper club members and the last issue will be coming soon. This is the last! This year has gone really fast for both me and Hannah. I hope you have an amazing summer break!

Reducing Stress for ISTEP By: Brooke Barbato

Indiana Statewide Testing for Educa-tional Purposes+, or more commonly known as ISTEP, is coming up! For 3rd-5th graders, we have already test-ed on paper back in March, but now we have a computer version of the test. Before I talk about reducing stress, how about we learn a little more about ISTEP itself. These tests are used to show our progress throughout the year, and know where we are going to be learning wise next year. It determines what grade we will be in, in the upcoming year, and how much help we will need. It’s very im-portant that you work hard on these tests, but sometimes it can be hard to focus when you’re worried! It’s okay to worry, remembering most kids are in the same place as you, but sometimes it can interfere with how you think.

Here is a small list of ways to prevent worrying. 1: Take a break. When you’re testing, it may seem like time is flying, or sometimes not passing at all, so its always good to stop for a minute, lay your head down, then get back to work. 2: Think about something that makes you happy. You’ll give your brain a second to stop thinking about the test completely and you’ll be happy! Only do this for about 1 minute. Hope I helped!

Mysteries: About what?

Joanna Lee

We all know the Westing Game. Maybe the Encyclopaedia Books, too. But have you heard the book, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library? It’s a great book, having a taste of the Westing Game and Charlie and the Chocolate factory. It is a New York Times Bestseller and is school appropriate. Mysteries are in this book of how to es-cape the Library. Summery:

“Kyle is a game fan—board games, word games, and especially video games! Kyle's hero, the famous game maker Luigi Lemoncello, is the genius behind the design of

the town's new public library, which contains not only books, but an IMAX theater, an electronic learning center, instructional holograms, interactive dioramas and electro-

magnetic hover ladders that float patrons up to the books they want. Lucky Kyle wins a spot as one of the first twelve kids invited to a gala, overnight li-brary lock-in filled with of fun and games. But the next morning, when the lock-in is

supposed to be over, the doors remain locked. Kyle and the others must follow book-related clues and unravel all sorts of secret puzzles to find the hidden escape route if

they want to win Mr. Lemoncello's most fabulous prize ever.” --Author Chris Gra-benstein

You might think the mystery’s over once you end the book. But no, there is still one mystery to solve for the readers. Only 200 readers out of thousands have ever solved it. If you read it, you might be one of the solvers! But that’s only when you read the book…

How can you escape the library?...

Forensic Scientists

Crime lurks around the corner, and without a good and handy detective, things can go crazy. Murder, crime, crashes, and abduction all leave clues, and it is up to forensic scientists to get to the bottom of the case. See some bones? Teeth? Skulls, bugs, hair, toxic, or some blood? Call in a forensic scientist! (A sci-entist that studies the dead body for clues)

Teeth detectives scan the mouth with a computer scan, and then the computers scroll through sus-pects in dentist history that might have a match with the real mouth. This program speeds up the process of matching the would be known victim\murder\suspect's mouth info to the would be victim\murder\suspect's past history downloaded by a dentist(the regular kind that checks your teeth for cavities, not the detective-dentist). When the computer program finds a match, then the scientist will know from true, hard evidence who is who in the crime. It is very careful work, since many times, the only clue is a broken mouth. When in these circumstances, the dentist-detective would have to first repair the broken mandible.

The human bones are a wide selection, from the bone, the femur\thigh gone, to the smallest bones, in your ear. The forensic scientists can use these bones to see how old you were when you die. Adults tend to have big femurs, females tend to have wider pelvis (hip), and children would have babyteeth. Bone scien-tists need to be careful and precise, since many times, the bones would have to be repaired and fixed for it to have an exact measurement.

Collaborating with the bone detectives are the ones who make faces. Thats right, faces! Based off of what the bones scientists can get from the skull, these forensic scientists try to create the model of the character’s face and hopefully have someone recognize the face and match it up with the real person.

Hair, hair, hair! Hair is also an important clue in crime. Hair can tell you how old he/she is, like the human bones.

Does this crime bug you? Bugs are important clues when trying to see how long this person has died. A fly, for an example, can show you how long the person has died. By studying the life cycle, you know that the cycle starts when the adult fly comes to the corpse. Then, it hatches eggs into the body. Next, the eggs will hatch into maggots. After a while, the maggots will wrap itself in a cocoon and turn into a fly. By studying which phrase of the cycle was in action, you can estimate when the corpse became a corpse.

Blood carries DNA. Its as simple as that. Forensic scientists will test the DNA and see which person it belongs. It is almost always accurate, but the bad thing about this process is that it takes lots of money and time. Forensic scientists will sometimes move on to Plan B.

“Toxicologists? Anyone here?” Toxicologists have everything to do with toxic. If you see a jug with the skull and crossbones, that will warn you it carries chemicals that might kill you. To know how the subject has got poisoned, you would need to study the corpse’s hair and other things. By identifying these clues (hair, for example,), toxicologists can single the poison suspects down to one poisoner.

So if you ever see something weird or crazy, call a Forensic Scientist!

KEVIN LOVE GETS KNOCKED OUT OF THE GAME

Kevin Love from the Cavaliers got hurt in the finals, in a battle for the ball against the Celtics’ Kelly Olynyk.

The Cavaliers soon avenged their fellow teammate but things were getting worse. In the first period Kevin

was picking up the ball when Kelly suddenly grabbed his left arm and yanked on it, Kevin rushed to his locker

to get treated. The referee called the play a loose-ball foul but Kevin called it a bush-league play. A bit after

the game, doctors found out he popped his shoulder, Kevin will be a great loss for the Cavs.

The 2019 ICC CWC is going to be at england. I am still trusting the indian cricket team and especially M.S. Dhoni. I’m just tellin’ you that.

I already told you that he is the india captain, but he is also the wicket-keeper. What the wicket keeper does is he is behind the batsman like this. If the ball goes to the wicket keepers level of height, then he has to catch it to take a wicket. The other team loses a wicket. Some captains captains can be wicket keepers like MS Dhoni. Australia has won the 2015 ICC CWC because they defeated all their teams and beat New Zealand in the final game. (NO!) Obviously, the next Pepsi IPL is going to be in India, so now we know about that, let’s go back to the 2015 ICC CWC. In Australia, I think the best bowler would be Mitchell Starc.

Mitchell Starc’s ODI (One Day International) ranking is 3rd.

But New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori has played for NZ for 16 years.

In all, he has taken 305 wickets between when he first started his career playing in New Zealand. He is really good, and also new zealand made it to their first ICC Final. That is really good for New Zealand. When India lost to Australia, many fans had a frowny faces because of their lack of skill.. I think the star performer of the NZ vs SA match would be Abraham Benjamin

De Villiers. He did a great performance, but it wasn't him who was the man of the match. Even though Umesh Yadav's ODI ranking is 42nd, his

Most wickets taken in a match was four wickets taken and 31 runs bowled. This may be the world cricket rec-ord, and plus, for the whole 2015 ICC CWC, most of the fans in the whole cup voted for India. THAT WAS WHAT I WAS STUNNED ABOUT!! Well at the end, let's just say that all the matches were intense. Well, we will have to wait for 4 years for the next CWC which is the
