1. Initial Greetings

1.1. Greetings from the FIJLKAM Italian Karate Federation President

It is a pleasure for me and for the Federation

I am honored to chair to greet all the athletes

of the “Karate 1 Youth League”, which from

13 to 15 December 2019 will liven up Jesolo.

Veneto region, with its enchanting Venice

and particularly with the city of Jesolo, has

always been a land of sports and hospitality,

as the great number of previous events,

within the famous Venice Cup, can

demonstrate.

The news represented by the “Karate 1 Youth League” is big. The aim is to involve young

athletes in the scenery of international high- level competitions. That means building a

bridge towards the future of this beautiful sport, which in Tokyo 2020 will wear for the first

time the Olympic uniform.

Our young karate competitors start today thanks to this event their way to the high

technical level, and I am sure that this will be an important stepping-stone for their future.

I would like to thank all the people who worked hard for making alive this prestigious sport

event: in particular the athletes, the instructors, the various associations and the families.

But I would also like to thank the audience that constantly support and take part in this

important event.

We must not forget to acknowledge who works behind the scenes, the Organizing

Committee, the President Vladi Vardiero, the Multisport Veneto Association, who worked

with passion and dedication in order to organize this project.

I also thank the city Council of Jesolo, special guest of these Karate events since ever,

for its kindness and collaboration.

I wish you all to enjoy this prestigious sport event, therefore “Karate 1 Youth League

Jesolo-Venice” will surely be a special occasion to honor and strengthen this beautiful

sport in Italy and throughout the world.

1.2. Greetings from the member WKF Executive Committee

Welcome to Jesolo, welcome to the city that gave me

Christmases!

Let me express my warmest welcome as Honorary President of

the WKF Youth League in Jesolo (Venice) to those who have the

chance to participate in this 2nd edition.

The WKF Youth League circuit dedicated to the youngest in 4

stages and Italy has the honor of organizing the 4th and last World

event.

The WKF Youth League offers to the youngest athletes a very high

level competition in preparation for the next major official international competitions under

the WKF and EKF flag.

An appointment that many Italian, foreign Athletes and National Teams from all over the

world are waiting impatiently, sure to find a Location and an Organization worthy of the

most important WKF competitions.

Italy and Fijlkam are at the forefront of organizing a World Event under the official WKF

flag, a project started many years ago, under the guidance of Maestro Vardiero and his

competent Staff preparing for the 2nd edition in the new location of Jesolo.

1.3. Greetings from the President of the Organizing Committee

As President of the Organizing Committee, I will strive to do my

best at taking this second edition of the Youth League on!

The previous edition in 2018, which took place in Caorle, was the

fourth stage of a WKF competition. It focused on youth categories

whose athletes will be the future Olympic competitors.

However, along with this competition, the historical Venice Cup

took place, too.

I have to remark that in those days we reached the highest

number of participants, surpassing all the previous records! 5 Continents, 62 nations and

4000 athletes from over 600 clubs fought on fourteen tatami areas.

A world record! Such a vast number had never been recorded by any kind of karate

competition.

The continuous growth in participants in events organized by the Organizing Committee,

which I’m honored to be in charge, confirms that working with professionalism and

accuracy is always rewarded.

Also, thanks to these achievements, our trust is retained by the Fijlkam (our national

federation) and the WKF.

It this for this reason, that we will keep hardly working in order to enhance our services.

In 2019, since the highest demand of participants in both Venice Cup (28th edition) and

WKF Youth League, we have decided, in order to guarantee a high-quality service, that

the two competitions will take place in different locations and dates.

The 28th Venice Cup edition, will maintain its location in Caorle (Venice) and competitions

will be held the 26-27th of October. To remember, the event is for the U21 and Senior

categories.

Whereas, the second edition of the WKF Youth League will be hosted in Jesolo (Venice)

at a new big and modern sport hall, which is a welcoming and spacious indoor sports

arena. Many important International sport events are used to taking place here.

These two great events will help to reinforce the Karate’s image throughout the world,

which fits perfectly for its first time in the Olympic Games that are taking place in Tokyo

2020.

I dutifully have to thank the WKF President, Antonio Espinos, who gave us the opportunity

to show to the world, our abilities in organizing.

Furthermore, a special thank goes to the Italian Karate Federation and its members, in

particular the Fijlkam President, Domenico Falcone and the WKF executive member

Davide Benetello whose contributions made possible to present this project to the World

Federation.

I cannot forget to thank ASI President, Claudio Barbaro, who has always believed in our

projects, and all the staff of ASI Karate Veneto, formed by our athletes’ families, who will

help us another time to realize these important events.

In conclusion, I want to wish you to live in Caorle or Jesolo a wonderful experience.

I am sure they will be two great events, full of sport whose fundamental principles and

values, such us Respect and Tradition, will be standing.

2. Introduction

The Karate 1 – Youth League is a newly created competition conceived to highlight the

impact of Karate in young ages.

Established under the umbrella of Karate 1, and designed to complete Karate 1-Premier

League and Karate 1-Series A, the Karate 1-Youth League aims at becoming a platform

for the development of youngsters in their quest to progress in the sport.

The new competition was devised to respond to the increasing interest of young

competitors to have more options to compete at the highest level and it puts the focus on

karatekas aged 12 to 17.

The number of competitors is open. All members of WKF are admitted to participate.

The WKF competition Rules in force will be applied.

2.1. WKF Approved Items

The Karate 1 - Youth League complies with the highest level of presentation. In order to

guarantee the correct delivery of the event, and to ensure the suitable quality of the

tournament, exclusively the following brands are WKF Approved for use in the 2018

Karate 1 - Youth League Season.

The registration will be validated once completed the online payment through the payment

Clubs and National Federations are responsible for the quality of the entered registration

data. Once closed the online registration, any comments will have to notified to the

software and to the WKF at latest five day before the first day of competition.

The official registration session will take place on 12th December 2019 from 10:00 –

17:00h at PALAINVENT address Piazza Brescia 11, 30016 Lido di Jesolo VE - ITALY.

If changes are required during the official registration session because of incorrect, or

missing registration data, or for unrecognizable photography, a fee of € 20 is charged for

each change.

At registration, accreditation cards will be issued with the participants main data, a

photograph and information about registered categories. The accreditation card must be

worn at all times during the event.

Only members of national federations recognized by WKF are admitted to participate, as

per Youth League Organizing Rules 2019 (PL OR Point 6 Registration).

All participants must submit an official document (passport or other valid ID card)

for the WKF identification and validation at the accreditation session. Copy

passport or ID will not be accepted.

The accreditation of any competitor must be done by the athlete or the athlete’s

coach, in person bringing the athlete passport or other valid ID at the accreditation

session.

The competitor who has not collected, either personally or through his/her coach

the accreditation during the official registration, will not be included in the draw.

The weighing will be carried out immediately after receiving the accreditation,

those athletes who will not attend the weighing will not be included in the draw.

9.1. Age

IMPORTANT NOTE

The age limit of competitors for the corresponding category will be the first day of the entire event.

The entry fees are € 40 per individual category entry.

11. WKF Accredited Coach

According to the Coach License Manual, the minimum level required to take part in the

Karate 1 events (Premier League, Series A and Youth League) is “Accredited Coach

Level”.

To obtain such certification, coaches must attend a compulsory Coach Briefing.

Therefore and in order to give the opportunity to the WKF Coaches to get this certification,

a Coach Briefings will be held in:

• Karate 1-Youth League, Jesolo-Venice, Italy.

12. WKF Accredited Coach Briefing, Italy 2019

Please find below the Coach schedule and the details for the registration process:

Those coaches who wish to attend to the “Accredited Coach Briefing” in ITALY must be

registered online and must fill out the “Accreditation Agreement for Coaches” that can be

downloaded from the online registration site.

The online registration to take part on this Accredited Coach Briefing Jesolo-Venice 2019

will open on 13th September 2019 at 12:00 (GMT +0) and will close on 29th November

2019 at 12:00 (GMT +0).

NOTES:

ALL REGISTRATIONS AND PAYMENTS SHOULD BE PROCESSED ONLINE WITHIN

THE DATES ESTABLISHED. OTHER METHODS OF PAYMENTS WILL NOT BE

ACCEPTED. COACHES REGISTRATIONS WILL BE VALIDATED ONCE RECEIVED

THE CORRESPONDING PAYMENT ONLINE.

NOTE: Onsite registration and payments will NOT be accepted.

Although all registrations and payments must be processed online, all coaches attending

the Jesolo-Venice Coaches Program 2019 must attend to the onsite accreditation for

Coaches to collect the identification that will give him/her access to the briefing/exam

room.

Fees and payment

We would like to remind you that the fee to attend to the “Coach Briefing” and to obtain a

new license or to renew your expired license of WKF Accredited Coach is 300 CHF.

All payments must be made through Sportdata platform.

13. Prizes

The event prizes (medals and trophies) are to be provided by the host.

In each individual category, the first prize will be a gold medal.

The second prize will be a silver medal.

The third prizes will be bronze medals.

14. Ranking

Competitors can earn ranking points in every Karate1 event according to the official WKF

Ranking Regulations. U14 Competitors do not earn ranking points:

The entrance to Youth League Jesolo-Venice 2019 is free for children and young up to

18 years.

Aged 18 years and over:

20. City of Jesolo

Jesolo was originally a lagoon in which appeared many little isles.

The isle called by the Romans “Equilium” was the biggest one: the ancient group of people

who inhabited this area (Paleoveneti) were famous all over the world as horse breeders

and the toponym seems indeed to refer to these noble animals. Thanks to the help of

Rome, the Paleoveneti managed to chase away the Gaules and, in exchange for

protection, they allowed them to settle down pacifically in the modern-day Veneto region.

The Romans colonized these territories and they built streets, bridges and villages. They

introduced their method of land measurement (known as Roman grid) and they made the

soil arable by reclaiming swamp areas.

However, the fall of the Roman Empire brought

insecurity: the Vikings finally managed to cross the

border and invaded the land. The backcountry

population found safe shelter into the lagoon and

started the foundation of new settlements. In

particularly Eraclea was founded by the inhabitants of

Oderzo on the isle Melidissia and Jesolo on the isle Equilio.

Thanks to its strategic position, Jesolo was at the centre of the North-Adriatic maritime-

trade. Protected by the lagoon, the village could spread undisturbed up to become

episcopal seat.

Unfortunately, many wars, a tragic flood of the river Sile and the invasion of the Francs

provoked the decay of the city flourishing port, that lost the episcopal seat at the beginning

of the XII century.

The situation got worse until a patrician man from Venice named Soranzo built at his own

expense on a field of family property a new church dedicated to St. John the Baptist, that

later became a parish.

People started to move to this area: the new village of

Cavazucchina established therefore around the

church and the Republic of Venice reclaimed the area

in order to move away from the two rivers ( Piave and

Sile).

Cavazucchina became a city only with Napoleon in

1806. After Napoleon’s fall, the Austrian Empire created a land reclamation consortium (

Consorzio Passerella) that aimed to improve the swamp areas of the lagoon.

In 1866 Jesolo was annexed to the Italian Reign.

However, the situation did not improve and during the

1st World War Cavazucchina was damaged and

people had to flee away.

Peace after the war allowed the village reconstruction.

The biggest land reclamation work was realised

between 1920-1930: cultivation of wheat, corn, beet,

fruit trees and vineyards were introduced. In 1930 the

city was denominated with its ancient name, Jesolo, and from 1936 Marina Bassa and

Spiaggia took the name of Lido di Jesolo.

The agricultural renaissance coincided with the

rediscovery of Jesolo: heliotherapeutic cure buildings,

hotels and restaurants were born, and after the

2nd World War break, the city’s economic growth

became faster.

Today Jesolo is famous for its 15 km long beach. The

city offers a lot of hotels, residences, apartments,

camping grounds and all kind of entertainments to its tourists.

For those who are interested in the arts and in the archaeology, don’t miss the “Ancient

Walls” of the city, parts of the ancient Saint Mary of Equilium Cathedral. In this area in

fact, pavimental mosaics attributable to the primitive early Christian church dedicated to

Saint Mauro, that date back to the VI-VII century, represent an archaeological site of great

historical importance.

21. City of VENICE

The name “Venezia” (Venice) and its early variants

Venédia, Venétia, Venésia, Venéxia, Vinegia

indicated all the territories of the pre-roman venetian

folks. Venetia, is the name used in the administrative

Augustean documents of the 7 A.D. Along with Istria

it was part of the tenth region, the X Regio. The name

was also used under the Byzantines who called the

coastal region from Chioggia to Gradac “Venetikà” or,

in latin, Venetia maritime.

The name came to indicate the duchy of Venice, and only later its capital. The city came

to being in a later era bringing together the settlements on the islands.

A peculiarity of the latin name is that it is a plural substantive, perhaps because the city

was conceived as the union of several smaller island centers who joined together, or in

any case a plurality of elements.

The old documents refer to the regio n in the singular,

“Venetia” (Venetia et Histria, Venetia Maritima), while

the city was referred to in the plural: Venetiarum

Civitas, Venetiarum Res Publica, Venetiarum

Patriarcha.

The territory of the city of Venice is split into six

administrative municipalities, and is clearly divided

into the lagoon area (the historical center and the islands) and the mainland.

The historical center is located in the middle of the

namesake lagoon, on a total of 118 islands, consolidated

over the centuries thanks to wooden pilings, which have

allowed urbanization. Some of these are collected in

groups while others are more disperse. The city center is

threaded by a maze of waterways that require the use of

bridges to cross, and it is a pedestrian zone.

The historical city, with its 797.96 hectares of surface

(excluding the waterways and the biggest islands), is one

of the largest historical centers of Italy and Europe.The

entire extension of the insular city, including the the islands

in the lagoon, like Murano and Burano, is 1688.91

hectares.

The historical city is divided into six districts or “sestiere” (plural “sestieri”): Dorsoduro,

Santa Croce, San Polo, San Marco, Cannaregio and Castello.

The “sestieri” are built around the double bend of the Grand Canal, the main waterway

from which a dense network of minor canals extends. There are many urbanized islands

in the lagoon but some are now deserted. The largest islands (part of the municipality

themselves) are Murano, Burano – renowned respectively for glass work and lace-making

– Torcello, Sant’Erasmo, Pellestrina and the long and narrow Lido with its beach resorts.

The monuments of the city of Venice are found almost

entirely in the historical center and the islands of the

lagoon, the mainland is almost devoid of places of

interest. The most famous landmark in Ve nice is

“Piazza San Marco”, the principal square and the only

one that goes by the italian name of “piazza” as all

other urban spaces in the city are called “campi”

(fields). St. Mark’s Basilica dominates the square. It is

golden in color and covered with mosaics about the

history of Venice, along with bas-reliefs depicting the

months of the year.

Above the main entrance, stand the four bronze

horses of Constantinople, taken to Venice following

the 4th Crusade in 1204. The church has a Greek

cross plan and five large domes. The present Basilica

is the third church of St. Mark, and it stands in place

of the previous two that were destroyed. This version

was inspired by the Church of the Holy Apostles of Constantinople (destroyed by Muslims

a few years after the conquest of 1453), of which it is a sort of scaled down replica.

The interior is full of gilded mosaics t hat depict biblical events and allegories. Originally

it was the chapel of the Doge of the Republic of Venice. Next to the Basilica is the Doge’s

Palace. The two are joined by the “Porta della Carta” (Paper Gateway) that today is the

exit of the Doge’s Palace Museum. Nowadays the main entrance is on the waterfront

side, facing the lagoon. It was built in the 15th century with Istrian marble to be the seat

of the government of the Serenissima. Before that there was a fortress that was set to fire

to oust Peter IV Candiano, who had taken refuge inside during a riot.

To be seen are the Higher Council Hall (Sala del Maggior Consiglio), which for centuries

was the biggest government hall in the world, the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) and

the prisons, the “Piombi” (“Leads” in English).

Opposite to the Doge’s Palace stands the bell tower, Campanile di San Marco. Built in

1173 as a lighthouse, it was renovated by Bartolomeo Bon in the 15th century. On the

14th of July 1902 it fell to the ground and was completely rebuilt.

The Veronese red marble lodge (Loggetta) was built by Jacopo Sansovino. It has bas-

reliefs depicting the feats of the Lion’s Republic.

Other important monuments in Venice are the Arsenal, the Basilica of Santa Maria della

Salute, the Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari and the synagogues of the Ghetto.

Venice is also renowned for its historical cafès. Coffee was imported from the Ottoman

Empire around 1615, and from the year 1683 cafés started spreading throughout the city.

The famous “Caffè Florian”, was opened on the 29 December 1720, in Piazza San Marco,

under the arcades, and it is still open to this day. The equally illustrious “Caffè Quadri”

was opened in 1775.

Venice also houses the precious Peggy Guggenheim collection. The museum exhibits

masterpieces by renowned artists including: Ernst, Modigliani, Picasso, Miro, Pollock and

Kandinsky.

The islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello are the most important tourist attractions of

the lagoon. The Venice Lido is an enjoyable seaside resort, and home to the famous

Venice Film Festival.
