Lois Johnson, a Hillcrest resident, takes pride in her experi- ences in history. Her most memorable times are of growing up in Michigan and working as a “Rosie the Riveter“ making B25 Mitchell Bomber engine valves during WWII. “They were un- certain times and we all wanted to help,” said Lois. She keeps many photos of that time. Born in Chicago, after being robbed by gangsters, the family moved to Michigan . “Our house burned down, so my dad turned the chicken coop into our new home. There were four bedrooms, kitchen a bathroom and a living room. The small home was enough for us. We would walk to a one room school where all eight grades were together”, Lois shared. Lois married a boy she grew up with. They were married sixty-eight years. Today, Lois is enthusiastic about remembering times from sixty plus years ago. She and her hus- band had five children, thirty grandchildren, and too many to count great grandchildren. The photos show the loca- tion where Lois worked making parts for the planes that the men flew over in Europe. Lois is in both photos. Gail came to ACMCC’s Reha-bilitation program after a slip and fall on the ice. “I have been here before after a knee replacement and I knew that my needs would be

taken care of. The nursing staff treats you like family.” After a few weeks of therapy, Gail is almost ready to go to her nephew’s house where she can have assistance for a little while longer. When asked how she felt about our rehabilitation program, Gail said, “The therapy staff know what they are doing, they keep me busy and they get it done.”

National Healthcare Decisions Day is an initiative to encourage pa-

tients to express their wishes regarding healthcare through conversa-

tions and the completion of advance directives. An advance direc-

tive is a legal document that tells healthcare providers who it is that

you wish to make medical decisions for you and what treatments you

would want or not want, if you are ever not able to tell care providers

what you would want in a medical emergency or life-limiting illness.
