Our coaches give their time for free. We target young children from the age of 7 who are already interested in swimming and who have already learned to swim quite well. They and their parents need to be committed to the sport due to the hours required each week for training purposes. We need to train new and additional coaches for our group and would be very glad of some WISH 2012 money to help towards this Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming ClubMrs Eunice Lamb01446 739 469Please send tokens to:25 Severn Avenue, Barry, CF62 7JLWe are a Swimming club for the disabled and we rely on volunteers to be 'helpers'. We are working towards the development of an outdoor area, which could be freely accessed by all children in the Foundation Phase. We intend to use any funding from the WISH 2012 campaign to resource this project. We fully appreciate that the outdoors offers a perfect companion to provision indoors – it is a complementary environment that significantly enhances and extends what we are able to give children inside. Such provision facilitates problem solving, reasoning and enquiry as well as further opportunities to interact with each other and their environment and ultimately equip them with skills for life- long learning. Due to the limitations of our site, the children’s access to the outdoors is currently timetabled. However, with careful and imaginative adaptation of space and funding for additional resources, we would like to provide greater opportunities for all children to have continuous access to explore and experience the wonders of the world that we live in. Our vision is for all young people to recognise their self-worth and potential and to flourish in a positive, caring environment free from oppression and abuse. BulliesOut aims to initiate and support efforts to create a safe, healthy and learning community which recognises, respects and celebrates diversity. A key theme is creating an environment that improves the social, emotional and academic wellbeing across settings where children and young people, parents and professionals alike feel confident in dealing with bullying and have faith that appropriate action will be taken if instances are reported. Our aim each year is to open a summer camp and provide student volunteers from Cardiff to run it. The children that attend the camp are disabled or recovering from cancer. The camp provides a holiday for the children and respite for parents. Many of the medical problems in Belarus are due to the Chernobyl disaster. Belarus received 70% of the fallout and, as a result, there are high rates of cancer and other illnesses. Only 8% of children are free from illness. We are unique because many organisations don’t offer under 18’s the chance to volunteer. But we believe it can give so much to local students, allowing them to develop themselves and open their eyes to challenges. We raise money for the cost of opening the camp and then run an extensive summer volunteering programme. The money from WISH 2012 would start our new project of building a second volunteers house on the camp in Belarus so we are able to take more volunteers over and more children can enjoy it. We have recently purchased land next to the camp. Now we just need to raise the money to build the house! Friends of Barry BeachesRob Curtis01446 736 287www.fobb.btck.co.ukPlease send tokens to:118 Merthyr Dyfan Road, Barry, CF62 9TJLitter is swamping our oceans and is washing up on our beaches. It kills wildlife and is a hazard to our health and costs millions to clear up. There are nearly 2,000 items of rubbish for every kilometre on a beach. Marine wildlife gets entangled in litter and accidentally ingests it. Turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and the bags block their stomachs, often leading to death from starvation., and seabirds mistake floating plastic litter for food. Plastic never biodegrades but breaks down into small pieces but does not disappear. Litter comes from many sources - the public, fishing activities, sewage pipes and shipping, but it is all preventable. Friends of Barry Beaches organise volunteers to help keep our local beaches litter free. In the process we try to recycle as much of the collected rubbish as possible. WISH 2012 would help us purchase beach cleaning equipment and materials such as

We feel this campaign would benefit at least 160 children whose school is fortunate to have large open ground area to play on but very little equipment to use. This funding would make a huge difference to some very disadvantaged children. Friends of Pedal PowerGabriela Todd02920 390 713www.cardiffpedalpower.orgPlease send tokens to:Pontcanna Caravan Park, Cardiff, CF11 9JJPedal Power was started as a cycle charity in 2006. Its head quarters are in a building next to the reception for Pontcanna Caravan Park, but it also has a second hire location in Cardiff Bay just beyond the Norwegian Church. The main aim is to make cycling accessible to absolutely everybody. We are particularly interested in those who have or have had difficulties with cycling or even finding a cycle that is comfortable and feels safe. We advise, train and provide opportunities every day (except the Christmas and New Year season) to hire a large fleet of regular and specialist cycles. We provide grassroot foundations for mobility, leisure, sport and commuter based cycling. Above all, the enjoyment of being on 2, 3 or 4 wheels and experiencing the freedom to move- however slowly, is exhilarating, contageous and inspiring. Come and see us to find out more! We greatly value our volunteers, without them we could not exist. We hope to spend any money we gain through WISH 2012 on specialist trikes that have been identified as required, in order for us to continue providing a

The group meets monthly and provides carers with the opportunity to meet other people in simular situations. Unfortunately within society there is still a lot of stigma around mental health, which also affects the families and carers. This is why it is so important to have a specific support group for mental health carers. Hafal also provides short breaks for carers, social outings and one to one family support. We would like to organise social outings for carers, pamper sessions and provide training for carers to help them in their role. This has been invaluable to many newcomers to the area, who would otherwise have been isolated with their children. We are a supportive environment, and for many women we have been life-savers and a place where they can be themselves again, not just someone's mum. We have experienced many things, salsa dancing; sushi making; hula-hooping; workshops; we aim to make every week interesting and exciting. We welcome any and every mum. There is no other group like this in Cardiff, but we are in dire need of support otherwise we may have to close. With funding we aim to provide our unique group with two fully paid creche workers every session. The money will also go towards the varied activities we provide for our Mums each week. We have also created a woodland area for the children. Personal Support UnitSusie Baker02920 343 685www.thepsu.org.uk/Please send tokens to:Cardiff Civil Justice Centre, 2 Park Street, Cardiff, CF10 1ETThe PSU in Cardiff helps people attending the civil courts on their own (without a lawyer) in cases which may have a devastating effect on their lives. E.g. being evicted from their home, being made bankrupt, losing their job or their right to see their children. Support from PSU volunteers not only makes a person's experience less stressful, but can also have a direct impact on the final outcome of their case and on the rest of their lives. Our service relies on the selfless work of highly-skilled trained volunteers, who support people by accompanying them to court to steady their nerves, guide them around unfamiliar court buildings, explaining what will happen in court, helping them to fill out legal forms and organising their paperwork. We see people without an appointment and do not limit the amount of time spent with each person. We also provide support over the phone to people all over Wales, many of whom would be unable to travel to Cardiff to receive help. The PSU is the only organisation providing this service in the Civil and Family Courts on a day-to-day basis. Money raised from WISH 2012 will go towards volunteer expenses and to support the promotion and expansion of the service. PG10 Coaching Peter Griffiths 07955 270 870

We perform a variety of shows, from comedy, musical, pantomimes and classics to give the children a range of experiences. The children, parents and volunteers help to organise various events to raise money, from bag packing in local stores to raffles and sponsored bike rides but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to raise money to cover music and play rights, practise room hire, theatre hire, scenery hire, and costume hire. We will spend the wish money on the hire of costumes and set to make the children’s experience of the stage as professional and enjoyable as possible, which in turn will give them a valuable learning experience. We also organise community events to raise awareness of environmental and Fairtrade issues, as well as cultural events; including, debates and lectures from university professors, poets and activists. Thrive Cardiff helps support children and families with disabilities. We do not receive any funding from local government and work hard to be able to self-fund our activities and events. Our aim is to offer our very special children, their siblings and families, a protective arena where they can play in an exclusive, non judgmental and supportive environment without prejudice. All children, including those with disabilities, have the right to play, have fun and take part in recreational activities. Play has a very important role in a child’s development, helping to develop speech, sensory skills, imagination independence and perhaps most importantly for our children, social skills. Sadly not all children are given this chance, simply because they look or act differently. Thrive is committed to providing children with disabilities the same opportunities. We meet in play center settings in the Cardiff and surrounding areas, where the whole family can receive support from others in the same situation, without being judged. Any disability is welcome at Thrive and we have sessions to suit all age ranges and all family members. We are very honoured to have WBO World Light Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly as patron of our charity and we look forward to working with Nathan and Team Clev in the future. We offer childcare and early years education from 2½ - 4 years of age. We aim to provide our children with a stimulating environment where they may experience excitement, discovery and sociability, through a balance of experiential and structured play. The children at playgroup would love the chance to explore their learning through greater use of ICT, especially computers. Currently at playgroup, our ICT resources are very limited. Therefore, we would use any money from this campaign to buy Information Technology resources for the children to enhance their experiential learning opportunities. A range of advice, advocacy and counselling service is also provided to give career guidance, personal support, and financial advice. WCF is targeting particularly disadvantaged, isolated and marginalised women, who are experiencing discrimination and exclusion in accessing services and employment. Every year we recruit and train over 100 volunteers whom we help to find paid work. We will be spending the WISH money in the delivery of our services to BME women. It will be spent in offering training courses for service users and volunteers, paying travel expenses to service users and childcare expenses. Also it will be used in purchasing any equipment such as computers, printers, or any other relevant equipment which will be helping us in delivering better services to our women in

the community. WRVS Colcot Darby & Joan ClubChristine Deane01446 701 537Please send tokens to:14 Clos Yr Wylan, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, CF62 5DBWe are a friendship club that meets weekly. Our members are pensioners from 60 upwards. Our aim is to help reduce social isolation in the elderly. We do this by holding a weekly event, such as inviting a speaker or a musician to interest our members, or we hold a celebratory event such as on St David's Day or the Queen's Jubilee etc. This gives every weekly meeting a focus. Then we chat over tea and biscuits. When the elderly become isolated in their own homes, they lose confidence in meeting people. Socialisation is an essential part of people's lives and helps to keep people mentally healthy. Our members look forward to their weekly meeting as it can be one of the few times that they do not sit staring 'at their own four walls'. We hope to raise money through WISH 2012 in order to help pay for speakers, musicians and celebratory events for the members of the club. Ceri Bolton and other PTA members have worked tirelessly giving up their time to raise funds to buy books, holding school discos, school fairs and most recently an over 18's disco with live bands and a local singer in order to purchase books for our children. We do not currently have a library in our school, so would wish to spend the money on buying English and Welsh books to equip our library. Ysgol Gymraeg TonyrefailNia Downes
