DESCRIPTION

Wireless power Transmission is the process of transferring the electrical energy from one place to another place without use of any wire or cord or cable. It requires resonating coupling between two points called source and destination.

WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION

• Wireless power transmission is the concept of

transferring the electrical energy from one place to other

without any physical path such as wires.

• It consists of the source and target.

• Source is the coil which contains oscillating magnetic

field.

DIFFERENCE B/W WIRELESS POWER

TRANSMISSION AND COMMUNICATION

SYSTEMEfficiency :

Maxwell's Equations indicate that the electromagnetic field and its

power diffuse to all directions. Though we transmit energy in a

communication system, the transmitted energy is diffused to all

directions. Though the received power is enough for a

transmission of information, the efficiency from the transmitter to

receiver is quiet low.

SPECIFICATION

Frequency amplifier may be in the following form

RF Amplifier

Tesla coil

Magnetic resonance coupling

Oscillator

Output voltage(from source)

5-10volt(ac or dc)

Output frequency(from source)

2 MHz

Rectenna (Receiver part)

FUNCTIONS Works on the principle of EMI

Works in the proximity of source and target

Energy is transmitted at very high frequency to reduce

losses

Frequency amplifier is used

Works at very high bandwidth

APPLICATIONS

BENEFITS

Page 10: Wireless Poewr Transmission

Wherever there is conventional mode of power transmission used, WPT

can be applied, viz

Household Devices (vacuum cleaners, Induction cookers, Lamps, TV,

Fridge etc)

Mobile Devices( PDA’s Laptops, i-pad/phone/pod)

Industries

Implanted Medical Devices (Pacemaker)

Multiplexes

Where to apply WPT?

Keeping in mind the given constraints, such as :1. Distance2. No. of Devices to be used(the total power required)3. Amount of consistent power available

Where to apply WPT?

Home automation system

Easy access to home appliances

Virtual charging of laptops, I-pad and other mobile

electronic devices

Wireless electric supply in the houses from main

source to daily used electrical equipment

NO Batteries (excluding some devices where batteries have to be there as the

alternate power source like Mobiles, Electric Cars, Calculators, Tablets, etc)

NO Wires == Greater Mobility

Minimum Power Loss (say in switches, wires, due to heating effect or voltage drops)

Environment Friendly(Green Solution)

No Harm to Human life reported due to magnetic flux till now

Constant flow of power

Reduction in carbon footprint

Safety from short-circuits

Pros

Most Importantly: “1kWhr of Energy saved at home means 3 kWh of energy saved at the power station”.

CONCLUSION

Electrical energy can be economically transmitted without wires

to any terrestrial distance. The economic transmission of power

without wires is of crucial importance to man. It will enable him

to dispense with innumerable causes of sinful waste. This

technology opened up the possibility of constructing power

stations on the moon. These power stations will be capable of

transmitting power to earth using microwave energy. Such

microwave energy would then be converted into electricity using

a vast array of Rectenna receivers on the earth.
