Landscape Design, Graphics and Sales Workshops

This seven-week design/build and sales workshop series was created to give landscape designers and salespeople the tools they need to be successful, just in time for the spring rush. NJLCA Executive Direc-tor, Jody Shilan, MLA has over 35 years of experience working in the green industry as a landscape designer and design/build contractor. His tried and true landscape design, graphics and sales techniques will provide you with the skills you need to create beautiful landscape plans, along with the confidence to sell the installation. All drawings

will be hand drawn on 8 ½” x 11” paper, allowing you to work during class and at home.

Intro to Residential Design (February 2nd, 5th, 9th and 12th) – Four 4-hour classes All classes will be held from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm$295 members / $395 Non-members

This is introductory landscape design class is perfect for both the beginner and the experienced designer. We will begin with an introduction to the tools and materials needed to create a landscape design. From there we will discuss design concepts and working with both hardscape material and plant material. Finally, we will create a resi-dential landscape plan.

You will learn: 1. The basic elements of landscape design 2. How to develop a concept plan 3. About scale and balance 4. How to work with hardscape and softscape materials 5. How to perform a site analysis

Landscape Graphics (February 16th, 19th, 23rd and 26th) – Four 4-hour classes All classes will be held from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm$295 members / $395 Non-members

Landscape designers need to express their ideas on paper, showing clients what their landscape can look like. Without appealing graphics, a great plan can look like a child’s drawing, immediately turning off your the client. You will learn how to create simple, yet eye-catching graphics that will help your clients understand your design and layout, and why they should work with you.

You will learn: 1. Clean and simple graphics 2. Working with both marker and pencil 3. How to work with trace paper 4. Landscape lettering 5. How to draft and draw freehand

Nothing catches you client’s attention like color. The difference between a black and white plan and a color rendered drawing can be the difference between a sale and a no-sale. You will learn how to color render your landscape designs, quickly and colorfully, making you stand out from your competitors. You don’t need to be an artist to learn these simple techniques.

You will learn: 1. How to create color rendered plans quickly 2. Blending and layering 3. Shading and shadowing 4. How to work with colored markers 5. Create a drawing that sells itself

Design/Build Sales (March 16th and 19th) – Two 4-hour classesAll classes will be held from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm$195 members / $295 Non members

There will also be handouts of the documents that you need to be successful in design/sales.
