    SUPERIOR NEWS Volume Issue

Keeping it Clean These days I am reminded of my late Mothers

constant preaching to wash my hands before dinner!

Here in the Fire Department we are constantly thinking

about exposure to a wide variety of bad stuff coming

from fires, vehicles and dangerous loads. Bad stuff is

all around us in household furnishings, train cars, Semi’s

and even dangerous drugs of all kinds. We wash our

protective gear to prevent build carcinogens including

our protective hoods that trap products of combustion

around our necks. We spray the cabs of our engines down

frequently with sanitizer disinfectant to reduce germs

    spreading between our crews.

Enter Covid-19 and with all the modern day

recommended precautions, Mom’s old advice comes

hauntingly back. Yep ….simple stuff like wash your

hands frequently. Don’t spit on your sister. Cover your

mouth when you need to sneeze and use a Kleenex for

heaven’s sake. Put the dirty clothes in the laundry and

change your socks. Took me a lifetime of living to realize

the impact of Mom’s advice for cleanliness but simple

stuff can make a meaningful difference today for us all.

Plastic bags --- Plastic bags are NOT recyclable at this recycle center.

Donations are always welcomed but Superior Town residents pay town taxes already and some of that is going toward this recycling center, so donations are not necessary. County residents, any size donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

We appreciate that the recycle bin has been sponsored by several area businesses, however as more people use this bin, there will need to be more times we switch-out (pull) the bin. Each time the bin is pulled, the town is billed for that bin. Additional donations will ensure that this service will remain available. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to use the bin.

    CHRISTMAS TREE SAFETY

Dried out Christmas trees are a serious fire hazard. Identity the tree’s condition

    before purchasing the tree.

Needles should be green and flexible. If you can break them easily, they are

dried out. Bounce the tree on the ground on its trunk. If a lot of needles fall off,

    it is dried out.

Don’t keep the tree up too long, as it dries out it becomes more of a fire hazard.

Keep the stand filled with water at all times. Do not set a tree up near a heat

source, including heating ducts and fireplaces.

Dispose of the tree properly. Do not put branches or needles in a fireplace or

    woodstove.

If you are using an artificial tree, make sure is flame retardant.
