"Thank you toALL of thewonderfulvolunteersfor providingthiswonderful, empoweringexperiencefor our girls.

In 6th grade you are not allowed to playsports on your middle school team. Butsince I go to Phillips Middle School, I got topractice with the East Chapel Hill HighSchool girls’ ultimate team this winter. Iinvited some of my friends, IsabelRockaway and Kate Johnson, who werealso in the 6th grade at Phillips to join me. We had a most wonderful experienceplaying with the older girls to help supportand coach us. The East Chapel Hill HighSchool ultimate coach is Coach Zog. Hewas a great coach and definitely helped toimprove my skill.

In the same winter season, Sara Summersalso organized a girls-only Middle School

We played in a round-robin format, where weswitched teams until everyone played eachother. At the end, my team won every game, sowe got first place!

I would say that I loved playing with these girlsevery Sunday and then having a tournament wasjust very fun. Also, it was a wonderful time to playwith friends that were from different schools. The schools that were represented wereCarolina Friends, Smith, Culbreth, Phillips,Martin, Expedition, and McDougle. In conclusion,I felt like I became a better handler with mythrows to make me a better ultimate player.

On Sunday, January 17, 2016, there was a TU middleschool girls ultimate tournament. Meg Duffy, whodirected the afternoon’s activities, put everyone intoteams. We had 4 small teams and each team had 4-5girls. We played 4v4 on small fields. We would play 2halves with a halftime to talk with the coaches thatMeg assigned to each team.

My coaches were Rachel “RoJo” Johnson and highschool student, Ellie Cubrilovic. We talked aboutstaying on your person as your mark and who is goingto be handler for the rest of the game.

YEAR! I have played ultimate for 5 yearsbut the winter league at ApexMiddle School was one of myfavorite experiences with the sportso far. It is the first time WakeCounty has held winter league formiddle school and it was a big hit.It was so popular at Apex MiddleSchool that the coaches had tomake 2 teams. Everyone had agreat time playing 2 games a weekand at the end of the season wehad a huge tournament. The winterleague was developed just for kids

to have fun playing Ultimate Frisbeeand that is exactly what happened.Everyone showed goodsportsmanship and it was anamazing thing to be a part of.

The coaches for winter league weregreat and helped us appreciate thegame even more. The tournament atthe end was wonderful and one of theApex teams won the Spirit award. Iam in 7th grade so I am lookingforward to playing again next year onthe team.
