4 MIDDLE SCHOOL MINISTRY BY JEFF MILLER

dLebAnon VALLey youth For ChriSt

Since the start of this school year we have seen God do amazing things in our ministry. There have been times where it has felt like the work of the ministry has been far greater than the workers God has provided for us. But God has continued to be far more faithful then we’ve expected. Back in September it became very evident to me that many of our stu-dents worldviews are far from biblical. It continues to amaze me how little biblical knowledge the majority of our students have. We needed to go back to the basics. Over the last couple of months between Christmas parties, turkey chases, and corn mazes we’ve strived to instill the metanarrative of scripture into our students. It has been so cool to be able to see our students un-derstanding for the first time what it means that we are image bearers of the most-high God. Or that God

created everything absolutely perfect. Or that it’s because of sin (not God) that there is so much evil, and brokenness in our world. Or that Jesus

came back to redeem our brokenness. For the first time some of our students understand what God has done and continues to do in our world today. Please continue to pray for vision and the direction of this ministry. Continue to pray for leaders as we battle on the front lines against the

enemy. Praise God that Dru Stokrp is in good enough health to resume his leadership at middle school club and continue praying that a kidney transplant is found soon.

HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRY BY LYLE WENGER

As we look back on the fall, we thank God for a good season of ministry with the students of Lebanon. More students were engaged in one on one conversa-tions and small group discussions. This opened the door for students to be challenged with what they truly believe about God. Many teens asked questions they don’t normally ask on a club night. Many expressed heart felt doubts about why they don’t believe in Jesus, or want to commit their lives to Him. At times the discussion groups last-ed 45 minutes to an hour, as one question led to another. As a re-sult we had 9 students pray to re-ceive Christ, which is truly excit-ing! Please be in prayer for these students. Pray that their hearts would be fertile soil, and that the seed of God’s Word, which they responded to, would grow in their lives. We participated in several special events this fall. We took a trip to a corn maze, and had an extended club time at our cabin on Colum-bus Day. We had several High School teens help serve hot dogs and hot chocolate at a Halloween outreach. Around Thanksgiving we had a dinner for the YFC stu-dents and their families. At Christmas time we cele-

brated the birth of Jesus with a Christmas party, and even took a winter hike to 500 steps over Christmas break. The coming year brings excitement to see God work in the lives of the teens.

We will continue to part-ner with Summit Interna-tional School of Ministry, as they bring students to build into the lives of the teens of Lebanon. Please pray with us that our small groups will open up honest discussion about people’s beliefs and the Bible. Please pray for hearts to be changed by the life changing gospel

of Jesus Christ, as these young adults begin to really seek God, and are trying to understand His love for them.

Interning at Youth For Christ® has been very re-warding to say the least. When I was asked to minister to the youth this past fall, it wasn’t hard to decide that I

wanted to be at YFC. Coaching a bas-ketball camp was the perfect way to work side by side with youth. Teaching basketball and sportsmanship skills, teambuilding, and getting opportunities to en-courage students was exciting and I couldn’t wait to get started. Six Twelv2Athlete, Summit International School of Ministry’s athletics outreach, joined me and 12 youth, and we had a ball, figuratively speak-ing. My heart was touched the day the students started to call me “coach” and ask me questions like, “Am I doing the shot or dribble correctly?” I knew then

we were making a difference in their lives. Basketball camp impacted the students in a major way. We came together 3 times a week. Dur-ing which they learned to respect us as we offered them our basketball skills as coaches and life skills as Christians. They continued to ask questions about both sets of skills. Over time, we saw genuine life change occur as attitudes and basketball skills im-proved simultaneously. There is an advanced competitive level these youth could continue to. They would have to be coach-able, teachable, and want to learn the game of basketball with a positive attitude. There are 6-10 competitive students that would love to be on a travel team. If our donors could help support students who want to join the team that would be a huge blessing. God has His hand on these athletes and He will help them be more than a competitor.

I recently watched a movie with my sons, Cam-eron and Caleb. It was titled, “When the Game Stands Tall.” Based on a true story, a high school football team won 151 consecutive games, approximately 15 years of back to back victories. As the viewer, I became anx-ious; wondering when and how this streak would end. Would they graduate top talent and rebuild with rook-ies? Would they become arrogant and self-absorbed? Would they abandon the work ethic that brought them to the most prestigious record in high school athletic history? God continues to bless our efforts as we minis-ter to Lebanon Urban Youth. October, November, and December set new attendance records at

Breakfast Club serving 1172 meals in 49 days. Yet, I have to admit, my faith is tentative and I wonder when it will end. New students join us every week and we witness the transforming power of Jesus. God’s rich grace has allowed us to continue to minister before the sun comes up; sharing the Son with teens in Lebanon morning after morning. This privilege is in his hands and we are grateful! I was privileged a year ago to meet some lof the leadership from YWAM international (Youth with a Mission). Lebanon County’s base has approximately 15 young people ministering in the county. Their mission is a global movement of Christians, diverse in ethnicity, age, and culture. YWAM is dedicated to know God and make him known. Their primary mode of operation is to team up with existing ministries in the area and lend their talents, skills, and resources to co-minister in the area of their base. We have been extremely privileged to work side by side with YWAM in the recent months. A special thank you to Dan, Ben, Sophia, Kyersti and Mogens for your gift of service. Also a continued blessing and thanks for yourservice of Terry, Tray, Kay, and Sue who volunteer on a weekly basis.

Thursday evenings at Elementary School Club have been, per usual, busy! Recently we have been graced by an attendance surge that is bringing over forty Kindergarten - 5th graders to YFC. While the elementary school age kids love the fun that they have at YFC their parents love what they are learning. God is at work here and we are making a difference! Recently, a mom took the time to tell me that she has seen a strong positive change in her daughter’s attitude both towards her parents and her schoolwork. Another mom shared that her ten-year-old son leads grace every night at dinner with the Lord’s Prayer. And then there are parents who are telling other parents to bring their kids to YFC because it is a safe, wel-coming place where kids learn about God! These are the kind of beautiful God things that encourage and refresh me. It is very important for you to know and understand that none of this would happen without YOU. YOU includes our faithful volunteers who at-tend Club helping with whatever needs to be done and serve as direct reflections of God’s steadfast love for all his children. YOU includes the cooks who generously prepare nutritious and abundant meals. YOU includes everyone who came to help serve

or contributed food to our Thanksgiving Celebration. YOU includes the Summit In-ternational School of Ministry staff and students who per-sonally encourage the kids to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. YOU includes the Sunday School classes from several different churches who blessed the kids with personalized Christmas bags containing

hats, gloves, socks, candy and assort-ed gifts. YOU includes everyone

who contributed towards the purchase of enough Bibles

for everyone to read from the same version and the same page! Thank YOU all for being a part of fulfilling

the mission of LVYFC and thank you for your continued

prayers and support. New volunteers are

always welcome to join in at Elementary School Club. The kids love to play games, shoot baskets, jump rope, color and draw, hang out and talk, and we would love to have more adults at Club to connect with them. This year Lebanon Valley Youth For Christ® is celebrating 70 years of ministering to the youth of Lebanon Valley! That’s a long time for a youth ministry to be in existence and to stay relevant. Through the years we’ve experienced major transitions. Many will remember the Satur-day night Rallies on 8th Street. Then we purchased our 1st facility at 7th and Weidman Streets. When that was sold we moved to South 6th Street. While there we used the Social Hall on Maple Street, The Barn behind Sears and the Cornwall Elementary School Gym.

In a miraculous manner, God allowed us to build the Teen Center on Grace Avenue. We then renovated the building at 10th and Lehman Streets and purchased a home on Church Street.

God supplied a beautiful cabin near Lickdale and, after it was destroyed by arson, enabled us to rebuild a better cabin. Now, 20 months ago we relocated to 740 Willow Street in Lebanon, right in the neighborhood of the kids we serve. This location continues to be the perfect location! Truly, it is an answer to our prayers. Our locations have changed as well as our programs. However, our vision to see the transforming power of Je-sus Christ at work in the lives of today’s youth has never changed. For 70 years we’ve seen the mighty hand of God at work. He has changed the lives of countless young people.
