Lane International Programs only exists

because you do! LCC is proud to represent

265 international students from 31 countries.

We’d like to offer a warm welcome to all of

our new incoming students for Winter term!

To help you get to know us a little better, each week we focus

on one member of our international student family, a Lane

faculty or staff member, or a Lane department or program we

think you should know about.

Crash A Class

When students show up for the first day to a

college-level class that’s full hoping that the

instructor will give them a spot.

[WARNING]

This is not a 100% guarantee that you can add

the class, but it’s worth a try!

WHO DO I SEE FOR…?

The International Programs department consists of nine dedicated staff members who help international

students from the time they apply to Lane until the time they graduate. All international students meet

us at orientation, but we are also here to help you after that with housing & homestays, cultural

adjustment, academic and immigration advising, and referrals to other Lane departments and staff who

can help you along every step of the way. We are happy to serve international students and look forward

to seeing you in our office in Building 11, Room 235!

LANE POLICIES & DEADLINES Credit Students: Dropped from your class?

If you don’t attend the first day of class, Lane instructors have the right to give

your spot to another student who wants it. If you decide not to attend a class, be

sure to log in to MyLane and drop the class so that you won’t be billed for it.

Don’t assume that your instructor has officially dropped you even if you don’t

come to class!

Credit Students: Late registration

Once the term has begun, you cannot register for classes online through

MyLane without the instructor’s approval. Instead, you must attend the class

and ask the instructor for permission to add it. This is called “crashing” a class –

attending the first day and hoping to be given a spot in the class when another

student doesn’t show up. If the instructor has room for you, they will fill out an

add form and give you instructions on how to add the class. In order to add the

class once you’ve been given instructor permission, you will need to register for

it yourself in MyLane.

Deadline to drop classes

The drop deadline for college-level and ESL courses with a 100% refund is

11:59 pm on Sunday of Week 1. You can see the drop deadline for classes by

visiting

http://www2.lanecc.edu/esfs/refund-drop-schedule-change-deadline-information

IESL Students: Schedule Changes

If you want to make any changes in your class schedule, you’ll have to get

approval from Dao Tran by Friday of Week 1. You can contact her at

[email protected] or 541.463.3436.

IMMIGRATION UPDATES Full-time status

To maintain your F-1 student visa status, you must be registered full-time for 12 credits if you are a college-level student or 18

class hours per week if you are an IESL student. If you have any questions about this, please see your international student advisor

as soon as possible. Remember, no more than one class online can count toward this 12 credit minimum for college-level students

and no online classes are allowed for IESL students.

Health Insurance Information Your international student insurance plan is provided by Firebird International Insurance Group. Please follow this link to

print an ID card, find doctors, claim information, print claim forms and much more: http://fiig-insurance.com.

If you are a new student, you will receive new insurance cards in the mail. Make sure your new local address is correct in

MyLane so your card can be delivered to you. Please watch for these or stop by the International Programs office in Building 11,

Room 235 if you don't get them by the third week of the term.

Please see Colby Sheldon before Friday, January 11th if you have a private insurance policy and wish to prove that it is equal to

Lane's minimum insurance requirements. If you intend to purchase additional coverage for your dependents in the U.S., you must

do so before January 11th as well.

If you have any questions about insurance or need help, please see Colby or email her at [email protected].

Have you moved recently?

Remember, if you move you are required by immigration to update your change of address in MyLane within 10 days of the

change. The International Programs office will then update your SEVIS record with your new address.
