The Winged Wonders Education Butterfly Lab creates a learning environment with butterfly tent (indoor or outdoor set-up) with live butterflies (eggs, caterpillars, chrysalides if in season), nectar and host plants, and educational materials and lessons (i.e. non-fiction and fiction books, field guides, posters, magnifying lenses, lifecycle coloring pages, nature journals). The Winged Wonders Education Butterfly Lab experience includes a mini-lesson introducing students to the care, feeding, and handling of live butterflies, netting techniques, and the monarch butterfly lifecycle. Live Monarch Butterfly Group Releases and Migrating Monarchs Tagging Workshops are available through Winged Wonders Education as well. Winged Wonders Education programs nurture a child’s natural curiosity and sense of awe through hands-on learning and reflective teaching practices. The Winged Wonders Education Butterfly Lab is recommended as the “first step” for teachers interested in teaching and learning with monarch butterflies in indoor and outdoor classrooms or for educators who may desire support integrating butterfly lifecycle studies, migration studies, wildlife habitat gardening workshops, and citizen science projects into the curriculum.
