Phonetics
It is about audible sounds and thethings that happen in your mouth, throat, nasal and sinus cavities, andlungs to make those sounds.
It has nothing to do with meaning.
Its only a description.
e.g.
In order to produce the word bed,
start out with your lips together
airfrom your lungs is forced over yourvocal chords, which begin to vibrateand make noise the air then escapesthrough your lips as they part
suddenly, which results in a B sound.

When they see /kt/, its adescription of how most of uspronounce the word cat.
It has nothing to do with a housepet.
If there were a word in any otherlanguage pronounced the sameway, the phonetic spelling wouldbe the same regardless of
meaning. Again, its not about meaning. Its
strictly physical.

Phonology
It explores the differences betweensounds that change the meaning ofan utterance.
e.g
The word bet is very similar to theword bed in terms of the physicalmanifestation of sounds.
The only difference is that at the endof bet, the vocal chords stopvibrating so that sound is a resultonly of the placement of the tonguebehind the teeth and the flow of air.

It pays attention to the function ormeaning of a sound.
Phonology asks, Does the
meaning change if I put this soundhere instead of that one?
Phonology makes very detailed
descriptions of sounds, so each
language has its own unique set of
symbols.
