Why Attend Every Service?

"Why Attend Every Service?"Hebrews 10:24,25; Acts 2:42-461IV. To Provide A Good Example And InfluenceA. Christians Are To Set A Good Example...1. To Set A Good Example for one Another! (1 Tim4:12; Tit 2:7,8; Rom 14:13,19-21)a. Newborn Christians - (1 Pet 2:1,2)b. Teaching the weak (Rom 15:1)c. Visitors (1 Cor 14:23)2. To Set A Good Example for the Lost (Mat. 5:14-16; Phili 2:15)a. Relatives - Neighbors Friends Enemies Visitors -V. To Be Ready, Watching And WaitingA. Christians Are To Be Prepared Because ...1. The Day Is Approaching! (Heb. 10:25)2. Jesus Warned Us - (Mat 25:13; Mk 13:33-37)3. Paul Taught Us (1 Thes. 5:1-11)4. We Must Walk Wisely (Ep. 5:16)a. And so much the more as you see the Day approaching.VI. To Have A Clear ConscienceA. A Good Conscience Is Important...1. Our Conscience Is Clear When We Know We Have Obeyed God! (1 Pet 3:21; Acts 24:16; Jam. 4:17)2. Our Conscience Must Be Educated - (1 Tim 1:5)3. Missing Services Contributes To Ignorance While Attendance Contributes To Knowledge (Hos 4:6; 2 Tim 2:15)4. A Conscience Can Become Seared (1 Tim 4:2)Conclusion1. Why attend every service? The faithful and fruitful child of God attends...a. To fulfill the commands of Godb. To grow and develop spirituallyc. To help the church function properlyd. To provide a good example and influencee. To be ready, watching and waitingf. To have a clear conscience2. For such reasons (and many others), the faithful child of God will have the same attitude expressed by Psalmist: "I was glad when they said to me, `Let us go into the house of the LORD.'" (Psa 122:1)Is that your attitude? In redeeming what time you have left (Ep 5:16), may you use as much of it as possible in service to the Lord and His people!"Why Attend Every Service?"Some Christians attend every service of the church whenever possibleThey are present for Bible study on Sunday morning and Wednesday eveningThey attend both Sunday morning and evening worship servicesWhen the church has a gospel meeting, they attend each serviceThey frequently attend gospel meetings at other congregations2Psalm 78:24-25 (NKJV) Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven. [25] Men ate angels' food; He sent them food to the full.

Numbers 21:5 (NKJV) And the people spoke against God and against Moses: "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread."

The Divine Will For Unity -1 Cor. 12:13-27 (NKJV) For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. [14] For in fact the body is not one member but many. [15] If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? [16] And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? [17] If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? [18] But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. [19] And if they were all one member, where would the body be? [20] But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. [21] And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." [22] No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. [23] And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, [24] but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, [25] that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. [26] And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. [27] Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. "Why Attend Every Service?"Some Christians attend every service of the church whenever possibleWhile Some others Do NotOnly once on Sunday, and that sporadicallyDo not participate in the Bible studiesAre not present for most services during local gospel meetingsAs for attending a gospel meeting elsewhere...very unlikely3The Divine Will For Unity -1 Cor. 12:13-27 (NKJV) For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. "Why Attend Every Service?"Hebrews 10:19-27 (NKJV) 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 6Psalm 78:24-25 (NKJV) Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven. "Why Attend Every Service?"Hebrews 10:19-27 (NKJV) 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 7Psalm 78:24-25 (NKJV) Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven. [19] And if they were all one member, where would the body be? [20] But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. [21] And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, [25] that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. I am hurt -My family is hurt - The weak or new Christian is hurt -The church is hurt -The world is hurt -Who Is Hurt When I Dont Attend?25The Divine Will For Unity -1 Cor. [21] And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." The Christian should attend regularly to be eager to obey God's command to assemble. Hebrews 10:25 is a command, not a request. The Hebrew writer used the word "assemBLING" not "assembly." Therefore, attendance on Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night will be no problem to the faithful Christian. Rebellion towards God's commands is a tragic sin in God's Book. "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry" (1 Samuel 15:23).2. We should assemble regularly to show respect for God who gave His Son (John 3:16-17; 1 John 4:10; 1 John 2:2).3. To show respect for Christ who gave his life. No man had greater love than Jesus who died for his friends (John 15:13), but he is a friend only to those who obey him (John 15:14). He became the "author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (Hebrews 5:9). One simply cannot be a friend of Jesus and forsake the assembling of the saints.4. To show respect for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gave us the New Testament which we are under as a law (Rom. 8:1-2). He gave us the pattern of the worship, work, organization, and purpose of the church. Therefore, to forsake the assembling of the saints is an affront to the Holy Spirit Himself.5. To show love and concern for one's brethren. Hebrews 10:24 says to "consider" one another in provoking to love and to good works. Therefore, it is inconsiderate to forsake the assembling. How is the new Christian to be encouraged to love the Christian life when some do not show enough interest in God, Christ, the church, the salvation of souls and the true values of life to show up on Sunday and Wednesday nights (when they could)?6. To show love and concern for one's own family. The husband/father is to be the guide, protector and provider SPIRITUALLY as well as PHYSICALLY. Yes, a man must provide for his own physically, but not at the price of his family's souls. In many congregations some work on assembly days when they could have rearranged their schedules to please God. Yet Jesus asked, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (1 Tim. 5:8; Eph. 6:4; Eph. 5:23; Mk. 8:36).7. To have a good influence on one's neighbors and the world. "One sinner destroyeth much good," said King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 9:18. Our neighbors who are being influenced KNOW when we go to worship and they KNOW when we don't. The Christian is to be a light to those of a crooked and perverse nation (Phil. 2:15).8. To show proper concern for one's own soul. One of the reasons for coming to the assembly is to feed on the Word of God (Acts 20:28; Acts 2:42). The inner man needs soul food. How's your appetite? Can one maintain a healthy spiritual body by pulling up to the table to eat only once a week or only a couple of times per year? (2 Cor. 4:16-18).9. To show proper appreciation for the divinely appointed pulpit (2 Timothy 4:2).10. To seek FIRST the greatest cause in this life (Matthew 6:33). Jesus said it must come first, First, FIRST! It cannot come second, third or forty-third. It must be First before business, family, friends and recreation since one cannot be a faithful Christian with one foot in the church and one foot in the world! Of course we will love our family and friends properly when and only when we truly seek first the kingdom of Christ.Gary Grizzell preaches in Gainesboro, TN
