Election Campaign

• Imagine there is going to be an election to decide which of the claimants will become the next king of England.

• You will work in three groups of eight.

• In your groups you must produce a campaign to support your candidate and persuade others in your class to vote for him.

Your Task

• Your group must produce the following items before the election next lesson:

• An A3 poster supporting your candidate (2).• An A5 leaflet explaining why your candidate

should be king of England (2).• Two A5 information fliers that can be handed to

people giving short facts about your candidate (2).

• A speech that will be performed by one member of your own group in front of the class next week (2).

Election Day!

• Each group will give their speech.

• At the end of the speeches, you will need to vote in secret for who should be king.

• You need to explain who you think should be king of England. You can use this frame to help you.

• Introduction – Explain who the contenders for the throne are.

• Paragraph 1 – Explain Harald Hardrada’s claim to the throne.

• Paragraph 2 – Explain William of Normandy’s claim to the throne.

• Paragraph 3 – Explain Harold Godwinson’s claim to the throne.

• Conclusion – Explain which of the three contenders you think should be king and give your reasons why.
