WELCOME

Dear Friends in Christ,

Moses wrote these words: “For I have chosen him, so that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what

He has spoken about him” (Genesis 18:19).

From the earliest times, families have gathered together to worship the Lord. God was interested in the family unit from the get-go. The verse I’m sharing with you comes from the chapter of Genesis where Abraham and Sarah discover that they will be parents. God purposely chose Abraham to be the father of future nations as Abraham walked closely with the Lord throughout his life. Not only did God know that Abraham would provide an excellent example of faith to his family, but he wanted him to “command his children and household after him to keep the way of the Lord.”

While most of us may not have angels of the Lord delivering personal messages, the rest of us are fortunate to have this example in Scripture: it is our responsibility as parents to teach our children the ways of the Lord.

I would like to encourage you to consider ways that you can lead your family and be a godly example to them during this Lenten season. This time of year provides believers with ample opportunities for spiritual growth. Whether you choose to participate in the mid-week Lenten services, using the devotionals for Lent, or signing up for the Good Friday Prayer Vigil. I encourage your family to celebrate the season.

Lenten Blessings in Christ,

Pastor Arthur Andrews

LENT MIDWEEK SERVICE

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Rev. Arthur Andrews

OPENING PRAYER

OPENING HYMN “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” My hope is built on nothing less, Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; No merit of my own I claim But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Chorus: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil.

Chorus

His oath, his covenant, his blood Sustain me in the raging flood; When all supports are washed away, He then is all my hope and stay.

Chorus

INVOCATION Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the

LORD,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. People: You are a hiding place for me; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with shouts of deliverance. O Lord, have mercy upon me and forgive me all my sins.

Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore announce the forgiveness of all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING I Peter 4:7–11 Reader: The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

SONG “Above All” Above all powers, above all kings, Above all nature and all created things. Above all wisdom and all the ways of man, You were here before the world began.

Above all kingdoms, above all thrones, Above all wonders the world has ever known. Above all wealth and treasures of the earth, There's no way to measure What You're worth.

Chorus: Crucified, laid behind a stone, You lived to die, rejected and alone. Like a rose trampled on the ground, You took the fall and thought of me, Above all.

Chorus

Like a rose trampled on the ground, You took the fall and thought of me, Above all. © 1999 Integrity's Hosanna! Music (c/o Integrity Music, Inc.) / LenSongs Publishing Unaffiliated Catalog (UC); CCLI License No. 684779

who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

BENEDICTION

CLOSING SONG “Just As I Am” Just as I am, without one plea But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou biddest me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not To rid my soul of one dark blot, To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Chorus: And I come, And I come. And I come, And I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about With many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind, Sight, riches, healing of the mind, Yea, all I need, in Thee to find, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Chorus

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,

Page 7: “Who Am I - Hephatha

7

Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve. Because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God I come, I come.

Just as I am; Thy love unknown Has broken ev’ry barrier down; Now to be Thine, yea, Thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
