OUR SUNDAY WORSHIP

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Rev. Arthur Andrews

OPENING PRAYER

INVOCATION Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: We pause now to confess our sins: People: Forgive us, O Lord, the thoughts, words and actions which spring from our sinful heart. Fill us with your purpose for coming into the world, by which the guilt of sin is covered and doubt is sent fleeing. Show us your ways, O Lord, and teach us your paths.

Pastor: Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, you are a resurrected people. I announce the forgiveness of all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY Pastor: O God, the protector of all who trust in You, have mercy on us that with You as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. People: Amen.

EPISTLE Philippians 4:1–5 Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy

and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.

I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 22:15–22 Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the 22nd Chapter. People: Glory to You, O Lord.

Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle [Jesus] in his talk. And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away.

Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, O Christ.

CONCLUSION:

APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge

the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Bag it up Our annual bag it up food collection for Caring Hands Food Pantry at First Lutheran Church in Fullerton will look different this year. First, bag it up is joining with Cans and Cards so we are still accepting cards of encouragement for those who receive these donations.

Second, instead of handing out bags to fill up, we will have a collection box in front of the church gate where you can drop off the donated items.

Third, as of this time we will be dropping the food off on Sunday, November 22. You can drop the food off anytime in the food collection box and we will store it at Hephatha until November 22 when we will take it to Caring Hands. At this point in time we are just dropping off the food. We are waiting to hear if a few volunteers are needed to help sort the food.
