Site owner already had installed a channel and had achieved necessary licenses and permissions.
Quotes for electro-mechanical equipment and installation £80,000 - £100,000.
To provide a detailed design and quote, Hydromew flew to England at their own expense. The site
owner provided transport and accommodation.
Hydromew, manufactured and installed Archimedes Screw, together with all electrical controls, and
transport from Poland, for a total of £37,500.
Site owner hired civil contractor with diggers and other tools for lifting and minor work, including small
welding jobs.
The engineering work is to the highest standards, and the electrical controls, absolutely first class.
However there has to be a down side. Although they respond immediately by telephone or email
when there is a problem, they are not here in England, and therefore often days or a week pass
before problems are solved and generation of electricity can recommence.
Problems encountered so far are not necessarily of their making. A major storm blew the shed,
containing all electronic controls, of its mountings, tearing all wiring from the Hydro ,including all remote computer controls. They flew over within a week.

Automatic hydraulics to lift bottom end of turbine as tail water level increases during high flow periods increases turbine efficiency by 5 – 20%
Four flights (instead of three) enable higher flow for any given diameter turbine
Quote 3 from Hydromew. Initial quote of £35,800 for turbine, control box and ancillaries and installation.
Following a site visit at Hydromew’s expense, £90,000 for turbine with automatic hydraulic lifting of bottom end, control box and ancillaries within housing, full scheme design drawings, fish pass, access gantry, raising of weir crest, new intake structure for leat and all installation but not including lifting or aggregates.
The deposit invoice has been paid, the turbine is currently being manufactured and installation by Hydromew will begin later this year

Quote 2. £118,000 Semi compact turbine, control box and ancillaries including installation supervision but not including civil works, electrician, fish pass, access gantry or lifting.

The first row has the highest generation seen on the spreadsheet 72.45 kWThe turbine maximum flow is 5.1 m3s Measured head from level sensors is 1.95 m1.95 x 5.1 x 9.81 x 0.74 = 72.19 kW So Hydromew turbine is 74 – 75 % efficient
