Where be these enemies? Capulet! Montague!

See, what a scourge is laid upon your hate,

That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love.

And I for winking at your discords too

Have lost a brace of kinsmen: all are punish'd.

As spoken by the Prince upon finding the bodies of the young lovers

From the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet

Dear Friend of Resolve Center for Dispute Resolution and Restorative Justice, It is an astonishing time! We witness our leaders use the language of provocation, name calling, taunting and bigotry. We witness bullying and the abdication of our nation’s place as a global leader. The poets warn us about the tragic consequences of hatred. Division begets division, hatred begets hatred, and war begets war.

Active, constructive peace making is a constant and urgent need. Our very survival depends on this. Here in southern Oregon, we can invest energy and resource into building strong communities where conflict can be managed and harm can be repaired. When faced with hatred, we can choose to love, we can choose to tolerate and appreciate difference, and we can remain dedicated to a hopeful future for our youth. Just before Thanksgiving, I will be asking you to give to peaceful conflict resolution and community building through a contribution to Resolve. We need your financial help to carry out our mission.

Resolve mediators serve people involved with small claims court, with fore-closure avoidance, with community and neighbor to neighbor disputes, and with conflict in the family. Our restorative justice partnership with juvenile justice has contributed to a decade long downward trend in youth incarceration and recidivism in Jackson County. We have doubled our education and training efforts with youth, bringing restorative justice to students and educators in southern Oregon K-12 schools. Resolve needs your commitment and support. I hope you will consider giving generously, and be part of building a resilient, safer, and more peaceful community for all!

In Good Cheer,
