WHEN ACKER MET JUNO

Juno came into school with Mrs Desmet this week—at just 13 weeks she was amazingly calm and chilled about the adoring crowds of children that greeted her! She also met Acker the school dog, who wasn’t hugely interested…! A big mention for Tristan who was very keen to make sure Acker’s feelings were not hurt by the visit of the lovely, cuddly new puppy.

FRENCH ASSEMBLY

Merci à Prep 6 et Mme Leavey pour une fantastique vidéo de 'Les Trois Petits Cochons', c'était très drôle et les croissants étaient délicieux!

PREP 3 POEMS In their English lessons Prep 3 have been reading and writing poetry. This week they worked together as a class to create the

first verse of a poem called ‘Mr Magoo’s Magical Zoo’ You can see the results below. The children then all worked on their own verses in the same style - and Rosalind, Myra and Oliver read theirs out in Assembly on Friday morning.

KENT TEST

The Kent Test results came out this week. We are very proud of all of the

children in Prep 6 who sat the test this year for their hard work, and for their resilience in the face of some

particularly challenging circumstances.

Well done to all!

NEWS FROM TEDDIES This week in Teddies the children have been doing some dough disco. They learnt to pinch, splat and roll the dough which helps strengthen the children’s hands and fingers to help develop their fine motor skills!

FOREST SCHOOL

With only 38 days until Christmas, Prep 4 put their lashing skills into practice to create wooden stars to decorate outside the school. On another beautiful autumnal day in the woods, Year 1 explored the different colours of fallen Autumn leaves by creating a leaf rainbow. After admiring Year 1’s work, Prep 3 enhanced it with some extra colours sourced from further afield. Prep 5 were joined by trainee Forest School Leader, Aden Jacques, who will be observing and working with Prep 5 for six sessions in order to gain experience and complete the portfolio required to achieve final certification. Aden treated the children to a treasure hunt that required scavenging, teamwork and some lateral thinking to unlock a chocolatey surprise!

DISPLAY OF THE WEEK

Our Display of the Week is in the corridor and up the stairs outside the School Office—

FUNDRAISING FOR PORCHLIGHT We aren’t able to go to Canterbury this year to sing for our usual Christmas charity, Porchlight, but we’re very excited that Oliver T, Alfie & Willow A will be doing a Christmas performance in aid of Porchlight on 7th Dec. They have set up a JustGiving page—here is what Oliver says on the page: I am Oliver and I am one of the music prefects at my

school. I am in year 6. I play the piano. Alfie is in my year and is a fine trumpet player. His sister Willow is in year 1. She is learning the guitar and is a fantastic singer. We thought that together we can raise some money for a good cause and have fun!

This year due to the pandemic, we cannot organise our usual concerts and carol service. Porchlight are a charity that help homeless and vulnerable people in Kent. This year they will face greater challenges keeping people safe.

We thought we could put all the hours of music practice to good use and hopefully entertain you in order to raise money for this charity.

We are working on a program for the concert which will be sent via video link (pre recorded due to social distancing) on Saturday 7th December which will be around 30 minutes long and full of entertainment.

Thank you for your support!

Well done to Oliver, Alfie and Willow for this fantastic initiaitve and we look forward to the concert. WHAT’S THAT BIRD?

Spotted this week, and photographed by Mr Cook—an egret enjoying our school pond.

Speech and Drama lessons help students to build self-esteem, communication confidence and vocabulary, skills that filter into all aspects of school and home life. They are particularly useful for those who want to improve their speech clarity, positive body language, eye contact, public speaking and performance skills.

At Spring Grove, we offer our students the opportunity to take Speech and Drama accredited examinations which give children the opportunity to develop a range of Communication and Performance skills. As children move up the grades, they build a portfolio of achievement, leading to UCAS points earned at grades 6,7 and 8

Lessons are held weekly, currently with fixed times each week. Lessons are available from Year 2 upwards. Online lessons are available by arrangement with the teacher.
