We are kicking off the event on Tuesday June 29 with a virtual Skilled Futuresevent featuring a live baking lesson with College of the North Atlantic instructorand Food Network personality Chef Aaron McInnis

JA Digital Programs

Junior Achievement (JA) has developed a suite of free digital programs thatintroduce youth to the world of finance and business These facilitator-led(volunteer parent or teacher) and self-directed courses teach financial literacy



work readiness and entrepreneurship ndash from the comfort of studentsrsquo homesschools community groups or camps

The programs are available for youth in grades 3 to 12 and each program lasts 2to 4 hours The programs include videos slides and interactive elements to helplearners understand key life skills such as financial management budgetinginvestments and more

HEALYAC Project QuaranTEENing Survey forCanadian Teens

Our team from the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory Youth AdvisoryCouncil (HEALYAC) are curious about the health impacts of physical distancingdue to the COVID-19 pandemic

Our work is involved with many projects focusing on improving the health andwell-being of children and youth across Canada Our mission is to integrate youthvoices perspectives and expertise into our research The establishment of ourYAC has allowed us to work with and for youth to conduct better research andensure that all decisions we make as a lab are youth-informed

As a result we have recently launched a study called ldquoQuaranTEENingUnderstanding the impacts of physical distancing on the health and habitsof Teensrdquo Please see the attached Infographic

Canadian Red Cross Launches TelephoneReassurance Program

ATLANTIC CANADA- The Atlantic Canadian Red Cross launches a newtelephone reassurance program with generous funding from BellThe telephone reassurance program provides regular pre-scheduled calls toindividuals who are feeling isolated due to the pandemic The service is providedas a routine safety check and to reduce loneliness In some cases staff andvolunteers will connect callers with resources available to them in their communityto further assist



If you or a loved one are feeling isolated or lonely due to COVID-19 contactus at 1-833-729-0144 Monday to Friday 830 am to 430 pm AST toregisterTrained Red Cross personnel will then arrange to call you at regularmutually agreed times in English or FrenchIf desired we can also provide contacts for other support services in yourcommunity

We are now accepting applications for our 2020 Yes 2 Me scholarships

The Institute for Advancements in Mental Health (IAM) is now acceptingapplications for our scholarship program It is one of Canadas only bursaryprograms dedicated to funding educational opportunities for people affected byschizophrenia or psychosis

To date wersquove supported more than 100 students with bursaries totalling over$250000

IAM offers the following scholarships each year to eligible applicants

COVID-19 Support for Vulnerable Women in NL



A message from our Executive Director Angela Crockwell

I want to make you aware of a new resource to assist vulnerable female identifiedpersons throughout our province Thrive will receive funding from the provincialgovernment to help address the needs of vulnerable female identified persons tohelp address gaps or barriers to access within our current support systems

The funding has been set aside to provide flexible amp creative responses to helpaddress current or emergent needs which aims to increase the mental physical ampspiritual needs of female identified persons This fund is not a replacement for thecurrent resources and supports that female identified persons should have accessto Rather it is meant to fill the gaps and increase access to supports where thereis no other group or government department that has the mandate to provide theservice andor the establishment of the support will take time due to systemnavigation and this delay in support will increase risk



This fund is meant to be flexible and we are open to all reasonable requests forsupport Our staff will also offer support with system navigation advocacy crisisinterventions and general supports where needed

The protocol to access this service is to call Laura at (709) 986 ndash 1558 Due tolimits on our staffing complement all intakesrequests for service can only beaccepted between Monday ndash Friday 900am ndash 430pm We recognize that manycrisis situations arise outside of these hours and during these times it will beimportant to reach out to the various on call supports and crisis interventionservices in your area

Myself and the staff at Thrive are deeply concerned about all of our neighboursbut particularly female identified persons and I hope that this funding helpsminimize the risks and provides an additional avenue for support
