Principal’s Report

There has been an increased buzz around the College the past few weeks. Partly because of the new fee structure for 2018, the news of my retirement and the appointment of Mrs Saunders as the new principal, and also in part because of the enormous amount of activity around the College.

Among the excitement has been the Inter-house netball competition that was well-attended, our Jui Jitsu students’ performance in their recent tournament and not to mention the Inter-school Swimming Carnival earlier in the week. Added to this, our netball girls are training hard and preparing for their season and tour to Fairbridge; the Cheerleading team continues to develop their routines; our music bands are practising furiously; OLNA testing has been completed; the media students enjoyed a rigorous day of editing over the weekend; and the Year 11s have returned safely from their camp on Rottnest Island. To round it off, we have the final preparations for our 15 swimmers and their support staff for the Port to Pub Swim (Leighton Beach to Rottnest Island) next weekend, while the excitement and anticipation grows for the fast-approaching Euro Tour.

As we look to the plans we have made, it is always important to me to consider where we stand with God and what His purpose is for us. In Proverbs 19 verse 21, King Solomon teaches: Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Science

The Year 11 Human Biology students have

been doing heart and lung dissections.

They have been looking at the effect of

activity on heart rate and the importance

of healthy living affecting heart and lung

function, how the organs are interlinked

and the specific functions of each part.

As part of our 'Biodiversity' topic, the Year 11 ATAR Biology class has enjoyed a very

informative and engaging excursion to the Perth Zoo. The chance for a hands-on experience with

some reptiles was passed-on by some of the students while others were quite happy to get quite 'close

and personal' when presented with a 'pet' lizard and a snake. The educational talk was so enjoyable

that even the resident kangaroo tried to join us in the learning experience. On our next excursion, the

students will get to discover the diversity of the native Australian flora in the Kings' Park.

Japanese Students Cultural Exchange 2017

In 2015 and 2016 we successfully hosted students from a school in Tokyo. Both visits turned out to be an

enormous success for the Japanese students, QBC students and host families alike.

We will be hosting students from the International Christian University High School between Tuesday 25

July and Saturday 12 August. The students are 15 to 17 years of age, accompanied by one staff member.

This year, we are looking for host families for these students and their member of staff. I can guarantee

that it will be an enriching experience for all involved, having hosted a student myself last year. Host

families are paid a sum to help out with expenses during the stay.

If you are interested in being a host or would like more information please could you make contact with

me via the front office or email me at [email protected]
